Room and Booze :: Catalina Hotel's 'Vodka Collins' Package

We love summer in Miami because the hotel rates are so low and the packages can get pretty desperate. Take this promotion at the Catalina Hotel in South Beach.
The hotel is offering the "Vodka Collins Package" for $55 per person per night and includes hotel accommodations for up to four guests, one complimentary bottle of Sky vodka at check-in, complimentary Vodka Collins drinks at the hotel's nightly happy hour from 7 to 8pm, two hours of bowling at Lucky Strike Bowling lanes, two daily beach chaises, two beach cruiser bikes and shuttle service to and from Miami International Airport.
The offer is good from June 1 to August 31st but black out dates do apply. Also, don't forget some crazy college graduates might be hanging out at the place too. You can book your stay by emailing reservations@catalinahotel.com.

Art Basel Party Wrap-Up: Rapper Noreaga Rocks the Budweiser Select Party
Art Basel 2006 is a thing of the past now, but we're still getting tips about the crazy parties that went down. As we told you, artist Steven Keene was featured at the Budweiser Select Porch Project party at the Marlin Hotel. Also on hand was the rapper Noreaga who dutifully posed holding some Budweiser Select bottles.
But lest we forget that Art Basel is actually about art, a great pic of the artist Steven Keene at work is after the jump.
[Thanks Shannon!]

Art Basel Party Wrap-Up: Kenny Scharf at the Raleigh Hotel

The Miami art show, Art Basel, has ended its weeklong celebration and now its time for all the hotel party reports to start rolling in.
Today, we had a couple emails about pop artist Kenny Scarf's Astral Uber Cadillac party held at the Raleigh Hotel last Thursday. Apparently, the party was wild with interpretative dancers kicking off the party with what appears to be cave people doing the Lambada and ending with teddy bears being destroyed. Art Forum mag called it the funniest show of the week with a mint condition 1960 Cadillac transformed into a "den of pop culture" as the show's main focus, centered by the pool.
The car features a tiara on top, florescent brains atop fushcia totem poles on the hood and candy-striped paint. A tipster reports:
The car's trunk was opened to reveal an art explosion - including a revolving disco ball, rope lights, mirrors and animated characters spinning gleefully atop twirling turntables.
Wow, that sounds like the most wild Raleigh Hotel party since OJ Simpson partied there.
If you have any more Art Basel stories and photos, send 'em our way.

Art Basel's Friday Night Hotel Parties

In case you haven't been reading this week, Art Basel has landed in Miami this weekend and the hotel scene is blowing up with parties and art showings galore.
We just thought we would run down (again) what's happening at some South Beach hotels tonight.
· Raleigh Hotel: A screening of "Coven" by Arden Wohl hosted by Leelee Sobieski, Melissa Bent, Mirabelle Marden, Stella Schnabel, and Yvonne Force.
· In the hotel's Oasis, Andre Balazs will be on hand for the reception and book signing by author Jack Pierson and his latest mongraph Jack Pierson Desire/Despair.
· The Marlin Hotel: Budweiser Select will be hosting its own Art Basel party here today and tomorrow from 12 to 6pm featuring artist Steve Keene (pictured above in action) who will be live painting as Budweiser Select girls prance around.
· The Catalina Hotel: All of the hotel rooms have been transformed into mini-art galleries for the entire weekend, and the hotel will be hosting some after-parties.
· The Delano Hotel: The Morgans Hotel Group and Art Basel will be celebrating the re-release of the classic 1969 biker flick, Easy Rider with Dennis Hopper hosting the invitation-only dinner (sorry) for 100 people.
Got that all down? And since we can't make it to this art prom, remember to send us any reports or photos from the weekend. Ahem...especially photos.

Art Basel Tipster Recommends Circa 39

Think we are on a bit of an Art Basel kick? Well here is more.
A man on the scene, who we can verify has spent quite a deal of time in Miami hotel rooms has this to say about where you might want to stay for Art Basel:
Since Art Basel takes place at Washington & 17th, each and every hotel in South Beach is walkable and viable. For those counting pennies, I really like an affordable new hotel on the wrong side of Collins Ave at 39th called Circa 39. It's the poor man's Delano.
There is a good chance you will be hearing more from our Miami tipster, all in due time.
Of course at this late date you are going to need to call and pray to god for a cancellation, most Miami hotels are booked solid.
Anyone else have any last minute Art Basel hotel tips--do tell.
