Yesterday we were able to get a sneak peek at the Hotel Palomar in Westwood which will open tomorrow thus making it the first Kimpton Hotel in Los Angeles. Hurrah!
We've actually waited a long time to see this hotel come to fruition and so far, things are looking very good.
This here is room 1918, a vista deluxe guestroom on the top floor. The reason that it's called "vista" is because it offers a killer view of the Westside. Some rooms facing west at this hotel will even give guests a view of the ocean, provided it's a clear day. Just remember, that doesn't happen in LA too often.
Nevertheless, all rooms have huge 42"inch flat screen TVs, iHome alarm clock, L'Occitane bath products, and the popular Kimpton animal print robes. The hotel's restaurant, Boulevard 16 is also gearing up for an opening this week and pretty much everything is completed in the hotel, including the small pool and lounge area out back.
It's kind of refreshing isn't it? A true hotel opening as opposed to a soft-opening with half-finished rooms. Special introductory room rates start at $229. The vista deluxe rooms start at $279.

Last week we were fortunate enough to get a sneak peek at the upcoming Gansevoort South in Miami Beach which we have been dying to see for quite some time now.
The hotel is aiming to open the second week of March and that will be a true soft opening, meaning only a few floors will be open but they will open both the main pool area overlooking the beach and the rooftop pool, as well as the Beach Club. Also the restaurant by the pool and in-room dining will be up and running. And don't forget about the shark tank!
Speaking of the public areas, we weren't allowed to snap any pics of the lobby or pool or rooftop but we were able to see two suites.
If you need eye candy now, check out the room photos below which have notes.
The Atlanta blog, Around Midtown, has posted some pics of the conversion of the W Hotel Midtown from a Sheraton on their site and this is what the new W will look like. What's going on there? Well Around Midtown breaks it down:
Now construction is finally at the point where you can see some of their plans unfolding, which include painting the predominantly cream building a slate color, accented by a linear black effect up the building. The retaining walls at the ground level are being covered with a slate.
While anything is better than a fugly Sheraton, we have a feeling the folks in Hotlanta might get sick of W Hotels soon. Aside from this one and the current W Atlanta Perimeter, there are Ws set for downtown and BuckHead. Maybe they should just call it Watlanta. Ok, bad joke, we know.
