We've been so wrapped up in covering the ongoing saga of Six Columbus we almost forgot that Jason Pomeranc has another property in the works in Manhattan: Smyth Tribeca. (His crew is also at work another downtown hotel: LES Thompson.)

The latest info we can dig up sets the opening date for the Smyth at Spring 2008, which is vague enough to change. The hotel is a bit different in that in addition to 100 rooms, it will also feature 15 condos on the top floors--that's the kitchen above--and an owners-only roof terrace. (Somebody call LaLo!)

The architects for the hotel half of the project are Brennan Beer Gorman, who also did the Mandarin Oriental at Time Warner Center and the Gramercy Park Hotel, and an underground bar and ground floor restaurant are also in the works.

We contacted Thompson Hotels to ask for more details on the property but haven't heard anything back yet. And the information line listed for the hotel didn't do much for us: it's just a voicemail box.

Jason Pomeranc Breaks Ground in Tribeca, Scouts Out Miami, Leaves Six Columbus Unopened

Perhaps boosted by the progress made on his LES hotel and his Beverly Hills joint, Jason Pomeranc is on another hotel mission.

Page Six has the latest on Pomeranc's hotelier dreams for Miami, where he once managed the Sagamore Hotel before some "creative differences" forced him to drop out of the city altogether.

Now [Pomeranc] is looking to get his own hotel on Miami Beach. But a friend of the hotelier says, "He is looking at the real estate market in general. It could be a hotel, a condo project or something else." Meanwhile, Pomeranc just broke ground for his TriBeCa project - a hotel/condo building called "Smyth," which will contain 15 residential units on top of a 100-room hotel.

Yet his Six Columbus hotel seems to have dropped in status from a stepchild to an orphan. The web site says reservations for this Chinese Democracy hotel will begin now in Spring 2007.

Jason Pomeranc Blazes On in Tribeca

Never mind that Six Columbus still has not opened, Jason Pomeranc and co. are moving forward with their plans for a hotel in Tribeca, called Smyth. A tipster sends us this little bit from the Boutique Search Firm December 2006 newsletter about the Thompson Hotels new hire for this property:

"Antoine Berberi has joined Thompson Hotels and will be working as General Manager to manage and convert the existing Wall Street District Hotel in New York City. He comes from the Westin Governor Morris in New Jersey where he was the General Manager. For eleven years, he was in various positions with InterContinental in Al Ain, Dubai, Bali, Miami and New Orleans."

I think the WSDH is a Holiday Inn, which would make this Thompson Hotel's second Holiday Inn conversion. Their website has been updated, and it shows a building drawing... I wonder if this is going to be on the five-year conversion plan like 6  Columbus?

We certainly hope not. At least this building doesn't look like an overbaked shit cookie.

Note: We spent three, count 'em, three proms at the Westin Governor Morris back in high school (except in the old days it wasn't a Westin) so if this man learned to handle drunk Jersey teens, maybe he can handle a Pomeranc crowd.
