Could there be a more attractive phrase than “complimentary gin bar”? Possibly – but in lieu of “hunky private footman”, in-room gin bar will have to do.
The amenity is the idea of Flemings (no apostrophe), the redoubtable, family-owned Mayfair hotel that, until now, has paired super-stylish public areas with slightly less inspiring rooms. But that’s all set to change with a £14m refurbishment, designed to rejuvenate the 129 bedrooms and add a tea lounge, bar and restaurant helmed by a Michelin-starred chef.

Few things are more exciting than a swanky new hotel in Thailand, but one thing that definitely is is a swanky new all-suite hotel in Thailand. Thai service + Thai food + lots of room to enjoy it = bliss.
The Akyra Manor Chiang Mai (the latest to join the SLH group, was due to open May 1, but has now been pushed back to July 1. You’ll just have to wait 8 weeks longer for its resort-in-a-city style to be unleashed.
What is resort-in-a-city style? Well, it’s in the middle of Chiang Mai, on the trendy Nimmanhaemin Soi, AKA Coffee Street; and yet each suite is centered round its own private “courtyard” (actually a balcony), complete with hot tub. Yes, your own private outdoor space with hot tub in the city center.

The pool at Pousada de Crato
Poor little Portugal is a country that’s often woefully overlooked, but here are some new openings that should earn it a second glance… All three of these pousadas are new signings for the Small Luxury Hotels of the World umbrella.
Pousada Mosteiro de Amares (above) used to be a 12th-century Cistercian monastery in the countryside of Minho, near Peneda Gerês National Park. These days it’s been transformed into a stunning modern-rustic hotel with extensive gardens, designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura. Rates are even more extraordinary than the hotel itself, starting at a mere €83 ($94) per night.

Ah, the first days of February when the cold is holding you tight in its embrace and hotels are trying to warm you up with “sexy” and “sizzling” Valentine’s Day packages that actually make only your stomach sizzle – with that unsexy sick feeling. What’s worse, this year, lots of hotels are going all out with Fifty Shades of Grey packages (#pray4hotelchatter as we approach our inbox with trepidation each morning).
Luckily, there is one hotel offering something so gloriously insane that it starts at vomit-worthy and turns right round into awful but inspired.
The Ampersand in London is offering people who stay during February the chance to personalize your pillows “with a special message or image”. That means either your names, as per the photo, or… erm… something else. No word on whether there is anything they won’t print.

How about a hotel with an average of 3.3 acres for each of its rooms – sounds good? That’s kind of the case at Domaine de Manville, a stunning new country estate which just opened in Provence, one of the most textbook ‘French’ places in France (apart from all the British expats growing their own wine). It’s set in a sweeping, 100-acre estate – and there are just 30 rooms to enjoy the space.
And you know it’s good, because it’s been snapped up by the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group.
The estate – a former farm – rolls out in the valley below a medieval hilltop village, Les Baux, with olive trees and lavender fields around it. Rooms look quietly luxurious, with neutral colors, linen (linen!) sheets and omg-rolltop-tubs-in-the-bathrooms.
There’s also a spa and gym, restaurant with wine cellar, tea salon, a gorgeous outdoor pool and a “scenic 18-hole golf course” in the grounds. Activities will include wine tasting and truffle hunting. Heaven!

Tennis pro Andy Murray is about to open his very first hotel next week in Dunblane, Scotland, but lest you think he's throwing in his tennis career to become a full-time hotelier, he will actually be missing opening ceremony to prepare for the Davis Cup quarter-final in Italy.
In true behind every great man ... tradition his mum, Judy, who actually handled much of the design herself, will be there instead.
The hotel has just 15 rooms including five suites, as well as a one-bedroom gate lodge. All have all been named by Andy in recognition of famous Scots: poet Robert Burns; Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon who became Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Robert the Bruce, medieval King of Scotland, Eden, the family who previously owned Cromlix, Sir Alex Ferguson, former football manager and player and Sir Chris Hoy, Olympic cyclist.
Most suites feature hand-painted freestanding baths in gold, silver and copper, and all rooms feature Peter Reed 400-thread-count Egyptian cotton bed linen and Cromlix’s bespoke range of Arran Aromatics toiletries. On-site activities include tennis (of course), falconry, snooker and fishing.

A brand new hotel name has hit the serene shores of Bali and, if your plans are bringing you to the Indonesian island, this one might be worth checking out -- and the name is easy to remember as long as you know the alphabet.
New hotel chain, L Hotels, have opened their very first luxury property in the tourist hotspot of Seminyak and marries urban, sleek design with the quintessential Balinese warmth that we have come to love.
This 30-suite property boasts Balinese butler service for each floor of the hotel for all of your needs in paradise. Once inside the room, guests can pamper themselves with plush décor, Kiehl's amenities, soap and pillow menus and thread-count specific sheets. While the design is heavy on the 'downtown high-rise apartment' each room features a hand-carved wooden ceiling ornament reflecting the Balinese influence.
Update 11.13.13: The digital art wall is now live!
As is often the case, not quite everything is up and running yet. There are a few rooms still being worked on, the 15-foot digital art wall is not yet live (though looks pretty cool as is, IOO), and the Wayfarer restaurant is not open (but will be, hopefully in about two weeks -- room service, thankfully, is available).
Nevertheless, we stopped by for a peek on opening afternoon and watched as the lobby steadily filled up with arriving guests -- we were told occupancy rates for opening week were high. And indeed, for a random Tuesday in November (today), rates are $499 a night. Normally, they will be even higher at $599 a night. Fortunately, that includes WiFi and a bunch of other goodies. Keep reading to find out what those are.

Andy Murray may have lost his US Open trophy but he's still got the fighting spirit required for his new hotelier career -- he's only gone and nicked someone else's chef for his own hotel!
Darin Campbell, who is currently executive head chef at the Hotel du Vin - One Devonshire Gardens, Glasgow, will start work at Murray's Cromlix House (the newest member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World) in January. The hotel won't open until April, but Campbell will be working on the menu for the restaurant to be run by Michelin-starred chef Albert Roux.

During our recent trip to Copenhagen we stopped in at, what looked to be, a Moroccan palace but in reality turned out to be the swanky Nimb Hotel.
Nimb is located in Tivoli Gardens (don’t be fooled – Tivoli is swarming with great restaurants and bars, not just kids and candy floss). From the outside the hotel looks like it’s a theme park ride: You expect cars with little kids and unhappy parents will emerge from within and the faint strains of “It’s A Small Palace After All” can be heard. However, once you enter the sanctity of the lobby, you find that it is, indeed, a theme park of sorts – one made for design-loving hotel geeks.
When Nimb Hotel first opened in 1909 it wasn’t a hotel at all, but a building that first housed a bazaar and a restaurant. In 2008 it was decided that a hotel should be created and Nimb Hotel was born.
There are plenty of pics for you in the photo gallery!
When we think of Spain, immediately thoughts of a sun-scorched land, sweet sangria, and tasty tapas come to mind. No doubt that we indulged in all of those a lot on a trip to the Iberian Peninsula, but once we walked into Hotel Tres on the Balearic Island of Mallorca Hotels, we knew we had arrived in paradise.
The hotel is tucked away down a cobblestone street behind an unassuming stone archway and an iron gate. In fact, we may not have been able to find it if we hadn't Google Mapped prior to arrival, but the hidden hotel was worth the search. After check-in we walked through a secluded courtyard and headed to our room, but the real jaw-dropper was the roof-top deck.
