Kimpton's New Digs Will Be In Savannah and Milwaukee

March 7, 2013 at 9:03 AM | by | ()

Kimpton is planning its first property in Georgia with the purchase of the historic Mulberry Inn in Savannah. The 145-room property is interesting because it was built in 1982 on the site of a former Coca-Cola bottling plant, then went bankrupt, and then became a Holiday Inn.

Even after joining the franchise, though, people continued referring to it as the Mulberry Inn rather than Holiday Inn because it just didn't 'feel' like a Holiday Inn. (Ask Rudy Giuliani--he stayed here once).

Apparently the timing is right for this next phase of the hotel's evolution because even though folks love the Mulberry Inn as a historic landmark, recent Yelp reviewers have called the place "noisy," "musty," and in need of an update. Hopefully, Kimpton's planned eight-month renovation project will make those complaints a thing of the past.

We mentioned the Andaz Savannahwhen we told you about the opening of the Andaz Napa, but now we can report it is officially open!

The 151-room Hyatt property is located in a former AVIA Savannah hotel building smack in the middle of the city's historic downtown area, across from Ellis Square. It's been renovated with a new restaurant and lounge, adding to its current Andaz splendor. The restaurant 22 Square (appropriately named after one of the oodles of squares in Savannah) guests can partake of the "market to table" menu with fresh coastal foods, and snack on free candied bacon. Drool. You can’t get any more Southern than that.

Andaz Hotels Will Open in Napa and Savannah This Summer, Followed by Amsterdam

March 8, 2012 at 11:19 AM | by | ()

Major news for Andaz Hotel lovers--there's going to be a few new Andazes to check out pretty soon.

Parent company Hyatt Hotels just announced that the existing AVIA Hotels in Napa and Savannah will be rebranded to Andaz Hotels this summer.

The 141-room Avia Napa in the area's "West End" will get a new look from California architecture and design firm Bishop Pass before it turns into an Andaz. The guestrooms will offer "modern furnishings in an earthy color palette, complementing the surrounding landscape." Bathrooms will feature white marble, walk-in showers and waterfall shower heads.

The lobby will also get a reno to showcase design inspired by the region. The hotel's signature restaurant and bar will offer a "Napa-to-table" menu, sourcing its ingredients directly from the plentiful ranches, orchards, mills and farms in the area.

Rounding out the hotel amenities are a 24-hour fitness center and a rotating art gallery with works made by local artists. And as with all Andazs, the minibar will offer complimentary snacks, non-alcoholic beverages and free WiFi.
