SPiN Ping Pong Returns to LA at The Standard Downtown

The SPiN table at the Mondrian LA.
It looks like the SPiN Ping Pong Club is once again trying to make it in Hollywood.
After a failed venture limited engagement at the Mondrian Los Angeles last year, SPiN LA is being revived by Susan Sarandon and her boyfriend/biz partner, Jonathan Bricklin, along with fellow co-owners Franck Raharinosy and Andrew Gordon at the The Standard Downtown LA.
The Huffington Post reports that hotelier Andre Balazs is very much on board with the idea and will even make some "major" changes to the hotel's mezzanine floor of which SPiN will occupy the entire space.
The club is expected to launch in early Fall and its opening will be the culmination of a bunch of SPiN tournaments held at other Standard Hotels in Miami and New York.

SPIN Ping Pong Club Has Closed at The Mondrian
The fun is done at the Mondrian Los Angeles as the SPIN Ping Pong Club has closed.
The NYC-based ping pong venture (run by Susan Sarandon, her boyfriend Jonathan Bricklin and partner Franck Raharinosy) opened its first outpost at the hotel last July and set up two ping pong tables in the lobby (with a third one out on the deck at SkyBar reserved for special events).
When we attended SPIN LA's opening party, we were all sorts of giddy about having ping pong in the hotel. But word is after a while, the cramped lobby got too crazy with ping pong balls flying everywhere. We guess SPIN won't be branching out to other Morgans Hotels then.
Life at the Mondrian has since returned to its usual minimalist vibe but we hear there might be something new in the works for the space. We'll keep you posted as soon as we find out.

Susan Sarandon Is Bringing Her Ping Pong Talents To South Beach
After we checked out the new SPiN Ping Pong Club at the Mondrian Los Angeles, we speculated that one of Morgans Hotel Group's London properties should be the next hotel to get its balls on. Silly us--the next place we'll see a SPiN will be much closer to that, even if just in pop-up form.
Miami's Delano Hotel is hosting an "Art Star Ping Pong tournament" during Art Basel Miami Beach--along with SPiN, Vanity Fair and the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami.

SPiN Ping Pong Club Officially Opens at Mondrian Los Angeles
Last night, at the Mondrian Los Angeles it was all about small balls...well, small ping pong balls, as the guy who was wearing a shirt that said "SMALL BALLS" pointed out to us.
Yes, last night was the official opening of the SPiN Ping Pong Hollywood and on hand for the games were the SPiN folks including founders Franck Raharinosy and Jonathan Bricklin, Susan Sarandon (a part investor and possible girlfriend of Bricklin's), Amy Smart, Rachelle Lefevre (she played the first Victoria in the "Twilight" series and then randomly, former "Bachelor" fiancee, Vienna Girardi.
Before arriving at the hotel, we were curious to see how they were going to fit ping pong tables into the ADCB lounge which is just off to the left of the entrance. Well, somehow they managed to squeeze two tables in there, with the second table ending just before the bar. These aren't the kind of tables found in your parents' basement. These are thick, sturdy, professional ping pong tables.
And playing on them, were a few professional ping pong players including Wally Green who boasted that he sometimes uses his Blackberry as a paddle.

SPiN Ping Pong to Open at Mondrian LA on July 20 (Will Susan Sarandon Stop By?)

Coming soon to the Mondrian.
West Coasters, if you aren't familiar with SPiN you better start familiarizing yourself now. The New York ping pong club founded by Franck Raharinosy, Andrew Gordon, Jonathan Bricklin and his rumored girlfriend and Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon is coming to Los Angeles inside The Mondrian on Sunset.
The signature SPiN ping pong tables will be placed in the hotel's ADCB Lounge (Asia de Cuba lounge) and will be open for play on July 20th to both hotel guests and visitors.
SPiN Hollywood at MONDRIAN will mark one of SPiN’s first expansions outside of New York, bringing its signature ping pong tables to the ADCB lounge, just steps from the famed Sunset Strip. SPiN Hotel guests and visitors will enjoy tournaments, celebrity events and even cocktails and food over a casual game of table tennis.
