Westin's New Gear Lending Program Keeps You Running

Out with the Westin Boston Waterfront's running concierge.
A small group of Westin hotels have launched a pilot workout gear-lending program with New Balance, meaning you'll no longer have to pack your smelly running duds in the bottom of your carry-on. So far, it's in about a dozen hotels, including the Westin Boston Waterfront, Westin Michigan Avenue, Westin Tokyo and the Westin New York at Times Square.

Hotel Palomar Chicago Has Its Own 'Running Woman'
If you want to get off the treadmill and take your workout outside in the warm summer air, Hotel Palomar Chicago's new running concierge can help. That's not assistant general manager Amanda Parsons' official title, but it's basically what she does.
Parsons, a part-time marathon runner, acts as a fitness instructor and tour guide to guests at the hotel. As part of the Running with the AGM program, she leads guests on an easy-paced but vigorous three- to four-mile jog along beautiful Lake Michigan. While you sweat, you can check out the waterfront and the skyline.

Shopping Concierges Are So Yesterday, Try a Running Concierge Instead

Westin Hotels have long been touting their area jogging maps, designed by the editors of Runner's World Magazine, for quite some time now.
The maps, which can be downloaded from an individual Westin hotel's website, outline a three-mile and a five-mile route, both of which typically begin at the door of that Westin. So those of us who want to work out without being trapped in a fitness center like a hamster in a cage can do so without worrying about the unknowns of unfamiliar terrain.
Plus, beneath the map, there are usually local running tips that can include the name and phone number of a local runner's shop (only too handy when we've forgotten to pack some of our gear) as well as contact info for a local running club, for anyone interested in finding a training partner while staying at the hotel.
But the reality is, we're really kind of nerdy when it comes to running, and so although the map is a nice touch, we were giddy to learn that some Westin hotels also have Running Concierges, as part of the runWestin program.
