Prince Wills and Kate Frolic at the Firefly Hotel in Mustique

August 18, 2008 at 11:19 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

So where do a prince and his special girlfriend go when they're utterly sick of being followed around? Apparently, the answer is Mustique Island in St Vincent & The Grenadines where Prince William and Kate Middleton recently spent two weeks enjoying each other's company without too much media around.

A bunch of celebrities own villas on this very private island, or you can stay at the Firefly Hotel with its five unique rooms. If Wills crashed here it would have been in the Royal Palm room, which at current off-peak rates goes for $950 per night (including all meals and your own golf cart for getting around).

They also would've had their own iPod and docking station with the iPod "fully loaded with specially selected music": but just what music does one select for a Prince who's holidaying in the Caribbean?

Brunei Prince Now Forced to Scour For Manhattan Hotel Deals

March 3, 2008 at 9:15 AM | by mytwocents | 0 Comments

No longer will His Royal Highness Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei be enjoying a complimentary stay at the New York Palace Hotel, formerly the Helmsley Hotel and Prince Jefri's last remaining valuable asset.

Following a royal 10-year battle between HRH Prince Jefri and his older brother His Royal Majesty Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei, a recent New York court ruling has awarded control of the iconic Manhattan hotel to the Brunei Government.

Seems the Sultan and his small oil-rich nation have accused the royal younger sibling of misappropriating $14 billion from its Treasury. And while Jefri already claims to have returned billions of dollars in property to Brunei, including ownership of the Plaza Athenee in Paris, to the Sultan go the hotel spoils. Of note, Forbes magazine ranks the Sultan of Brunei as the world's wealthiest ruler, with an estimated fortune of $22 billion.

Poor Jefri. It appears the Prince-turned-pauper will have to raise some cold hard cash for a Big Apple guest room whenever his travels bring him back to New York. You know, just like us common folk.

Queen E Checks Out Hotel Renovation, World Summit In Uganda

This past weekend, Queen Elizabeth II stayed at the Kampala Serena Hotel in Uganda during her three-day visit for the Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting.

Why did Lilibet herself select the hotel? Perhaps she was curious to see the results of the 18-month renovation project and redesign by architect Jon Cavanagh. The former Nile Hotel reopened in November 2006. The exterior of the 65-room hotel now resembles the landscape of the country, minus the impoverished people. A new manmade waterfall spills into a stone pool, surrounded by miniature lakes and 17 acres of indigenous vegetation, birds, and butterflies.

Most likely, the Queen chose the hotel because it is connected to the conference center that hosted the summit. She is joined by over 5,000 other guests to the event, from 53 countries, only the most elite of whom joined her as a guest at the Serena -- including her husband Philip, son Charles, and daughter-in-law Camilla.

The Prince And His Lady Plan Their Bahamavention

November 8, 2007 at 12:10 PM | by ced138 | 0 Comments

A standard fairy tale: A regular, yet beautiful, girl meets a handsome prince. He woos her and whisks her away to a magical place where they live happily ever after. Meet Kate Middleton, the realization of every sexist childhood fantasy. Her sweet, gorgeous, and ripe-for-engagement boyfriend, Prince William, has rented out the entire Desroches Island Resort during Christmas week in December.

The hotel is the only one on Desroches Island in the Bahamas, and it suits the fantasy "paradise" setting any little girl would imagine. Lovers can walk up and down the 10-mile private beach before retiring to their king-size bed and stocked suite. All but one of its 20 rooms will be uninhabited so William and his potential future bride can hide beneath the whir of paparazzi helicopters.

Where Prince William Can Go to Mend His Broken Heart

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 43 Stone Street, Llandovery , United Kingdom, SA20 0BZ

We know that people will always remember where they were and what they were doing when they found out Prince William had broken up with his long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton. But no one needs a getaway now more than Wills himself.

Holidays in the hills in the west of Wales are not at the top of everyone's list but the tempting New White Lion Hotel might just change that even for Prince William whose family owns Wales or something like that.

Situated in Llandovery, this new--since January--designer hotel has just six rooms, but each is specially designed to reflect a particular character or legend from Welsh culture. For sheer curiosity value, the Llewelyn Ap Gruffydd Fychan room, named after "a local hero who defied the English army and paid with his life", has attracted us. Since one of the reasons William and Kate apparently broke up was the committment the prince had made to the Army, perhaps this room will help him to reflect on his life choices?

But getting back to basics: each of the rooms includes a large-screen TV, antique furnishings and power showers, and in the family-size room, a "luxurious corner bath". The building itself dates from 1838 and is Georgian style but the interior decor is rather swank. So the Prince won't feel as if he's sleeping at his Grandmother's house.

You can get a Welsh breakfast there every day (we're hoping that's better than an English breakfast) but you need to book 24 hours in advance for other meals--then they're mostly organic and have a good "home-cooked" feel to them.

The food is apparently fit for a king-in-waiting. The New White Lion's owners are extremely proud that a 2-star Michelin chef once tried a dessert there and labelled it delicious. (What he thought of the other courses is omitted from the story).

If you have good timing, you might land in the New White Lion on one of their cultural nights--from time to time they hold events like poetry recitals or Welsh storytelling nights.
