Last week we were sleeping around Las Vegas and our last night was spent inside one of the renovated rooms at the Mirage Las Vegas. These rooms are only about four months old, or new, according to the front desk clerk. And they are beautiful.

We were given a room with two beds because we checked in at noon and a king bed was not available. No big deal, it was just one night. What was a big deal? Walking to the guest elevators from the check-in desk. If you have more than one piece of luggage, use the bell service. The elevators are on the opposite side of the casino. It's a bit of a maze and a bit frustrating when you've pulling been your suitcase all over Las Vegas.

Do you like the smell of coconut tanning spray? Do you love the color pink? Do you love wireless internet access and flat-screen TVs in your hotel rooms? If you're like us and you answered yes to all of those questions, then the renovated GO rooms inside The Flamingo are made just for you.

We have no idea what's gotten into us on this trip. Yes, we've cruised the Flamingo before and even once spent an entire day by its pool people-watching drunk people. But we never wanted to spend the night here. Until now. You could blame it on the coconut scent that wafts through the casino or on Donny and Marie. But it's really because of the hotel's new renovated GO rooms.

These are happy rooms with bright pink borders, bright white beds and furnishings and a happy-go-lucky tech vibe. Ok, that last sentence doesn't quite make sense but the high-tech offerings in-room--WiFi, flat-screen, DVD player, iPod dock, curtain controls--are incorporated into the room much like they would in your daily life. Meaning it's no big deal.

Inside the Widescreen Rooms at the Excalibur

Oh yes. We stayed at The Excalibur last night and no, it wasn't because we were going to see Thunder from Down Under. No, instead we had heard that the Excalibur recently renovated their Tower II rooms. The so-called Widescreen rooms are wide in terms of size, feature widescreen TVs and have wide views of the blue and red orange spires outside.

The good news? We survived the night. The bad news? It's the Excalibur. The casino area has three big attractions--the Tournament of Champions, Louie Armstrong and Thunder From Down Under. Oh and don't forget Dick's Last Resort. The gaming area was not as dead as we would expected it to be (people are still gambling downstairs at 7am) but it wasn't as bustling as the Bellagio, which is where we ate dinner.

Also, we were accosted by a timeshare salesman immediately upon walking in. Trick to avoiding them? Tell them you're only here for one night and leaving early the next day and that you're under the age of 25. Even if you are 45, lie and say you are 24.
