For what's shaping up to be our weekly Fantasy Friday post, we head back to Dubai (under better circumstances, this time, from earlier bad news) where the Raffles Resort is showcasing one hell of a dress—the world’s most expensive in fact--today and tomorrow.
How much does this frock cost? A whopping $5.65 million is the price tag for the Black Diamond dress created by British fashion designer Debbie Wingham.
Those at the hotel can ooh and ahh over the elegant sheath during a special Fashion Afternoon Tea this weekend featuring delicate pastry items like the Dark Chocolate Stiletto encrusted with sugar diamonds .
And just so you’re not sitting there eating cake and glumly lusting after sparkly things you can't afford, guests can enter a contest to win a pair of limited edition DCJ Black Diamond jeans worth $4,040. All you need to do is be able to spot the difference between the genuine Black Diamond dress and the “fake”, which is only worth a meager $16K.
When we wrote about high tea at Raffles Singapore a few weeks ago, we had no idea that the hotel was preparing to receive royalty! Apparently, while we were lusting over finger sandwiches and French champagne, the ritzy hotel was getting their best room ready for Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge who arrived yesterday. The two are in Singapore for a few days as part of their Diamond Jubilee tour through Asia, celebrating Queen Elizabeth's 50-year reign. And, it just so happens the Queen also stayed at the Raffles during a March 2006 visit to the country.
If we were to wager some Singapore Slings (though we've read Kate isn't drinking these days), we'd say the couple will stay in the Grand Hotel Suite, which we've written about before and have lovely pictures for you to lust over.
By now we all now that Bar Refaeli is 2009's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover girl. If you didn't know that, then you live in a cave on Mars. But what you probably didn't know was that Bar was sharing the shot with someone else--Canouan Island.
Of course, our inquiring minds wanted to know where the models stayed. Fortunately for us, SI gave the Raffles Canouan Island Resort a shout-out on their Swimsuit Issue website. And even better, we got more scoop from the hotel's PR firm:
Five of Sports Illustrated's top models traveled to Canouan Island including Bar Refaeli, Brooklyn Decker, Jessica White, Jarah Mariano and Hilary Rhoda. Raffles Canouan provided an idyllic setting for [photographer] Raphael Mazzucco, as the cover shot of Bar Refaeli was taken on the beach.
The hotel is now offering a package based on the Swimsuit Issue called The Canouan Island Un-Covered package.
