Hard Workers Get 20 Percent Off at Radisson Hotels

Here’s a good deal in honor of hump day: Radisson Hotels have announced a 20 percent discount because, hey, we all work hard. Guests can get the discount when they book the “Perk for Hard Work” rate and pay with an American Express card. (Ed. Note: Amex cardholders staying at Radisson? That's quite an interesting theory.)
And unlike that pesky boss of yours, Radisson won’t make you show any proof of this so-called “hard work.” In other words, don’t sweat those two-hour lunches when booking the deal. Heck, go ahead and take that long weekend you may or may not deserve — on account of lower hotel rates, naturally.
You can book your rezzies now for stays to take place between Oct. 15 and Jan 15. The offer is valid on standard room rates at participating Radisson hotels in the Americas and Asia Pacific.

The Radisson Edwardians, Not Santa, Will Save You 25 Percent Off

Yes, we know that summer only just ended this week but what can we say? We're in a holiday mood.
Christmas in London: it’ll probably be a wet one, rather than a white one, but it’s a pretty good time to hit town, seeing as half its residents up sticks to the country for a (wet and not white but rural) festive bash.
The hotels will be pretty empty too – which is presumably why Radisson Edwardian are offering 25% off their 11 hotels in London, plus their one up north in Manchester.
The Pay, Save and Stay promotion will knock 25% off the best available rate, any day of the week, and throw in two-for-one dining at the hotel restaurants as well. That means rooms in London are starting at £74 ($124).

Like Kiddy Fairy Tales? You'll Love The Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury Street This Month

Feeling intellectual today? Us neither, but we’re open to suggestions. Hence we’re glad to hear that the Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury Street’s book club is in full swing.
As we told you last month, the hotel is capitalising on its literary history (Virginia Woolf et al used to hang around Bloomsbury) by starting a “Book of the Month Club” - guests can either read up in the hotel, or, more realistically, take home a free copy to read on the way home.
What the hotel would really like you to do, of course, is book (haha) up one of their two suites which come with a bath at the foot of the bed. You could have a good read there, or in one of the egg-shapped chairs suspended from the ceiling, like in the photo here.
Nice as they are, we’d probably go for the train option. Though if you really like the Tales of Hans Christian Andersen - this month’s book – maybe you’ll go crazy. Rooms start at £199 ($328).

Radisson Guests' Personal Info Potentially Accessed

Have you been the victim of hotel-related information leaks? Comment below and let us know how—or if—the situation was resolved.
Like yesterday's disturbing carbon monoxide leak report, we're filing this story under "Things We Shouldn't Have to Worry About After Check-In." According to a report in the Denver Business Journal, the Feds have been investigating "unauthorized access to computer systems at some Radisson Hotels & Resorts locations in the United States and Canada." In our minds, that translates to potential credit card and/or identity theft—bad news.
The Radisson has gone into damage control mode, downplaying the severity of the incident. Reports the Journal:

A Book Club For Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury

We blame Andaz London. Since their reader in residence programme went down a storm last spring, it seems like the rest of London’s hotels are lining up to prove their literary credentials.
Since its refurbishment this year, the Langham has been offering a ”book butler” service (just tell him your tastes when you book, and he’ll have the tomes lined up for your arrival). And now the Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury Street Hotel is going one further by starting its own book club.

We'll Be Staying at The Radisson on Friday Nights This Summer

Ok so maybe we won't stay at a Radisson Hotel every Friday night this Summer but their new "Friday is Freeday" promotion is kind of awesome. If your stay at a Radisson this summer includes either a Thursday night stay or a Saturday, then the Friday night is free.
From May 15 through Sept. 15, 2009, guests will receive a free Friday night stay when staying two or more consecutive nights (Thursday or Saturday night required). Friday is Freeday is available for booking starting May 8 at participating Radisson hotels and resorts properties in North, Central and South America; Asia Pacific; and at Radisson Edwardian Hotels in the United Kingdom.
That last bit just totally sold us as we've been dying to check out some of the Radisson Edwardians in London, like the Bloomsbury Street Hotel which just had a recent renovation. Could this just be the way that Radisson finally wins us over? Possibly.

Staying at Radisson Hotels Now Earns You American and United Airlines Miles

We have to give props to Radisson Hotels. As of late, they have been slowly changing our perception of them (which has long been airport hotels or just subpar properties). Over in Europe, they've done a re-branding of their Radissons SAS properties to Radisson Blu and now, Radisson has announced a special new promotion that gives guests 500 United or American Airlines bonus miles for each night's stay.
Earn Every Night is running from May 1 to July 31, 2009 and you earn 500 miles for each night but it caps out at 2,000 miles for four nights or more. You must be a member of American Airlines’ AAdvantage or United's Mileage Plus program to take advantage of this offer, and you'll be asked to show your airline membership card at check-in to earn the bonus miles. And lastly, the promotion is in place at North and South American properties.
Does this change your mind about staying in a Radisson Hotel soon? It does for us, but tell us how you feel anyways.

The Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury Street is For Intellectuals
Bloomsbury the area in central London well-known for its literary connections and famous "turn-of-the-20th century intellectuals" like Virginia Woolf, E.M Forster, John Maynard Keynes and artist Roger Fry finally has a hotel that pays adequate tribute to its rich culture and history. After the Radisson Edwardian Marlborough underwent an almost $37-million makeover, it has been reborn as the Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury Street Hotel with a new contemporary design and updated, modern amenities.
It's kind of marketed toward people like those English department graduate student teaching assistants you remember from college: in the reception area, a whole wall is covered entirely with pages from Woolfe's Mrs. Dalloway. Upstairs, "some of the smartest and largest bedrooms and bathrooms in London." And down the street, easy access to the British Museum, Covent Garden and Theatre Land.
And for the intellectual discussions over fine food, chef Redmond Hayward is opening up the Bloomsbury Street Restaurant so guests can nosh on fancypants food and talk about literary theory and metaphors and throw around big words and obscure references. Or just eat. Whatever.
Post-renovation introductory rates start at £139 a night (around $204) until April 30. Pack your argyle sweater vest.

Adventures in Rebranding: Radisson SAS is Now Radisson Blu
Happy Wednesday! Here, we wrote you a poem:
Radisson SAS hotels are all changing their names,
'Cause someone thought the SAS part was lame.
The new name of the brand is gonna be Radisson Blu
'Cause rebranding will make 'em all seem cool and new
Yes, these hotels are as chic and modern as can be
As evidenced by the oh-so-2009 lack of an 'e.'
For those unfamiliar with the brand formerly known as Radisson SAS: SAS International Hotels teamed up with the Radisson brand in '94 to build hotels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa to develop the rapidly-growing, super-contemporary hotel chain. By '06, there were more than 150 Radisson SAS properties and by the year's end, SAS let go of the brand and Rezidor operated the hotels.
Today, in conjunction with the grand opening of the Radisson Blu Zurich Airport (formerly the Radisson SAS Zurich Airport), the company announced the a name change from Radisson SAS to Radisson Blu, both marking the end of the SAS affiliation and emphasizing the brand's focus on contemporary, modern design.

Room With a Killer View :: Radisson SAS Edinburgh
We are suckers for a room with a killer view. We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.

We've already sent kudos the way of the Radisson SAS Edinburgh because they're doing a bunch of nice green stuff. But, as all the best home shopping networks say: there's more!
The Radisson in Edinburgh also has truly incredible views. This killer view was from one of the loft rooms--guest Robin said they couldn't remember the room number, but "it felt like a long way from reception". We would happily accept a long hike from the lobby to our room if the reward is this kind of view.
This hotel is on the "Royal Mile" in Edinburgh and is between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, so you're already in the thick of things. Average room rates are close to $300 but at least you won't need to pay for too many taxis.

Hilton Hotels Are Kind of Big Deal in the KSA and the UAE

We probably have a one-track mind when we think of the United Arab Emirates---Dubai, Dubai, Dubai--which is why we were surprised to hear that Hiltons Hotels are kind of a big deal over there.
According to a recent travel survey , the chain was voted best hotel in terms of brand awareness, usage and intended future use in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Those are some pretty technical terms but it's safe to say that when in doubt, UAE and KSA travelers choose Hilton.
The hotel was also ranked as one of the most expensive hotel chains. Here's how others fared:
· Marriott was voted the most value-for-money hotel in KSA, while in the UAE, the distinction went to Radisson.
· Comparing the current use and intended future use of hotels, the Jumeirah, Shangri-La, Hyatt, and Marriott hotel brands in the UAE could expect a surge in guests.
Who woulda thunk it? Radisson is popular in Dubai! This is akin to Best Westerns being luxury hotels in China. Crazy.
