Shop Til You Drop At These 7 Mall Hotels Around the World

April 24, 2013 at 10:26 AM | by | Comment (1)

Last month, the 500-room Radisson Blu Mall of America became the second Radisson Blu to open in the US (after Radisson Blu Aqua Chicago). But one thing that sets this place apart from Chicago (and all other subsequent Rad Blus) is that it directly connects to the Mall of America, with its 530 shops, 5 major department stores, multiple food courts, indoor theme park, and 14-screen movie theater. If they want, hotel guests can even arrange for a personal shopper and bag pick-up to maximize the experience. Rates from $174/night.

Radisson Plaza Minneapolis Will Still Be Rad, Just Rad Blu

April 22, 2013 at 11:32 AM | by | Comment (1)

The Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis has few flaws. Reviews are great, in fact. Out of towners love its comfort, reliability, cleanliness, and proximity to downtown attractions. Locals love the in-house FireLake Grill and lobby bar. So far, so good, right? Of course, there's a but...

There's one complaint that we see pop up now and then from guests--it's that the hotel's service can be impersonal at times and that it just doesn't sparkle the way they envisioned a 4-star hotel should.

Well, we think we can consider that problem officially solved. Last week, Radisson announced the property will be converted into a Radisson Blu, meaning if the hotel is considered "upscale" now, it will soon be "upper-upscale." Basically, more Ps and Qs, and maybe a white glove or two.

Club Carlson Pumps Up Points On Stays

January 17, 2013 at 12:07 PM | by | Comments (0)

One thing we’re doing in 2013 is paying serious attention to the hotel loyalty programs we’ve signed up for over the years. It seems like we’re a member of damn near everything, given how easy it has been to register for most loyalty programs. Hey, if it means free minibar items (hey, Kimpton’s InTouch!) or WiFi (hola, Fairmont President’s Club?),then we’re ‘bout it.

However, there comes a time when we have to look at all our membership cards spilling out our travel wallet and ask the all-too-important question: What have you done for me, lately?

We just happened to be looking at our Club Carlson card, thinking we weren’t getting much out of our relationship, when we got news that Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, the company behind Radisson Blu, Radisson, Park Plaza, Park Inn by Radisson, and Country Inns & Suites By Carlson, was launching the Club Carlson Triple Points Returns promotion. Members of the hotel’s rewards program would earn triple Gold Point for eligible nights through March 15, 2013.

We put the scissors down.

New Radisson Blu Will Direct Connect To Mall of America

Site Where: 2100 Killebrew Drive [map], Bloomington, Minnesota , United States, 55425

We talked about it two years ago, and now it's finally happening! When the 500-room Radisson Blu Mall of America opens next spring (anticipated March 2013), it will be the only hotel to offer accommodations directly connected to the ginormous Mall of America.

We know what you’re thinking: It’s like a shopper has died and gone to heaven.

And it’s true. To complement the location, the Radisson Blu will provide a shopping concierge, personal shoppers, bag pick-up services, and access to the mall's 500 specialty shops. As of now, the hotel does not have any “shopping packages” that would get guests store discounts, but we suspect that will change – and hope that it will.

Ghana's Royal Family Got Robbed At The Radisson Blu Oslo

Go To The Hotel's Web

Apparently, the lobby at Radisson Blu Oslo can be a dangerous place. The Daily Mail reports that King Otumfo Osei Tutu II, who was visiting the Norwegian capital for a conference, had a suitcase full of crown jewels stolen from right under his nose in the lobby of the hotel, where rooms start at around $279/night.

Not too much else is known, save for the obvious fact the 62-year-old Ghanian king is pissed.

Though if it's any consolation, ex-Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell had, like, the exact same thing happen to him at a Marriott. And let's not forget the £1 million emerald ring that went "missing" from a Four Seasons bathroom.

These things happen!

5 Last-Minute Super Bowl Hotels For Diehard Beyonce Fans

October 17, 2012 at 9:00 AM | by | Comments (0)

We feel we should preface this post with a big 'but...'

Yes, it's true that Beyonce will be the official act for the Super Bowl halftime show this February. Yes, it will probably be a better show than whatever weird Egyptian thing Madonna did last year. And yes, even you, who's left planning 'til the very last minute, can find a way to see Beyonce perform and have a place to stay.

But (we told you it was coming!) don't expect to find a hotel in New Orleans proper, as, from what we can tell, they're all pretty much sold out. A quick look online shows that not only are our usual NOLA faves fully booked, even the crumby ones on the outskirts of town are unavailable too.

So, what's a Beyonce fan to do?

Ramp Up for the Holidays with Hotel Cocktail Classes

October 11, 2012 at 6:48 PM | by | Comments (0)

Fresh ingredients play a big part in the cocktails served at Viceroy Riviera Maya

With Halloween approaching and Thanksgiving and the winter holidays fast on its heels, we can't help but think about holiday festivities and merrymaking. You know, cocktails. Though we have shed a few tears in our beers as hotel rooftops continue closing up for the season, all is not lost as new cocktail action is showing up inside many a beautiful hotel. Forget the bars and lounges for a moment, we're talking about a slew of mixology classes that promise to teach you the tricks of the trade. Or at worst, to give you a few fresh libations to swap in this season for ye olde Christmas punch and egg nog.

Bet you never dreamed you want to visit a hotel to learn how to tend bar, but the stout new bevvie programs at Vicery Riviera Maya, Hotel Bel-Air and Radisson Blu Aqua Chicago might just change your mind:

Artisanal Cocktail Coaching at Viceroy Riviera Maya Mexico
This villa-laden boutique property has shown that it's taking its food and beverage program seriously with an amazing chef and her weekly chef's table paired with Mexican wines, and a beverage program highlighting remarkable tequilas and some of the freshest cocktails we've ever tasted. Guests who sign up for this class will learn from the hotel's Artisan Mixologist Master how to concoct drinks from an assortment of fruits and vegetables. Think frozen margaritas blended with cucumber and ginger, mojitos muddled with mint and brown sugar, sangria with strawberries and kiwi, and a la leche cream cocktail made with 1921 Crema De Tequil (sure to blow that egg nog out of the water). The cost for this class is $85 per person and includes 1 1/2 hours of training followed by—drum roll—1 1/2 hours actually working the hotel's Coral Bar.

5 Hotels For Dubai Virgins

August 8, 2012 at 9:34 AM | by | Comments (2)

It's been called Las Vegas on crack, and, frankly, it hasn't really done much to debunk that reputation. With over 570 hotels to choose from—garish, sexy, family-friendly, record-breaking...they're all here—Dubai can be a little intimidating for first-timers. Here are our picks on where to stay when you go.

Emirates Towers is undoubtedly one of the classiest hotels in the Jumeirah collection, which is owned by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed, and includes nine hotels in Dubai alone. The five-star hotel is comprised of two opposing triangular towers, connected by a central podium which in turn houses a mini mall. Rates from around $289/night.

Want To Bypass New York State Gun Laws? Get A Hotel Room

Where: 511 Lexington Ave [map], New York, NY, United States, 10017
July 12, 2012 at 9:01 AM | by | Comments (2)

We learn something new every day here at HotelChatter. While most people think of hotel rooms as places to relax, be naughty, get work done, or just plain sleep, a NY Post story yesterday confirmed one new use for them we'd never even thought of: harboring illegal guns.

A man was arrested back in January for inappropriately hugging a room service maid (it was actually the un-registered guns on his bed, rather than the hugging, that got him in bigger trouble) at the Radisson Lexington.

But he's off the hook now, since, as his lawyer's cleverly deduced, the guns weren't actually illegal because they were found in his private residence. Well, gee.

A Royal Bathroom View From The Top Of Radisson Royal Dubai

Go To The Hotel's Web

July 10, 2012 at 9:16 AM | by | Comments (3)

Even if you're not normally a fan of taking baths (like us—they take too long and we don't always feel that clean after), we think you'll agree this bathtub view from the Radisson Royal Dubai kind of negates any aversion to bath-taking you may have had in the past.

While about half of the guest rooms at the hotel face in the direction of the Downtown area (pictured), it is the upper floors, of course, who benefit most from watching cars zip down busy Sheikh Zayed Road. Though, as high as you go in this hotel, you'll never even come close to being level with the 160-story Burj Khalifa, which is indeed also visible from the top left hand corner of this bathroom window.

Another San Francisco Hotel Pays Tribute To The Golden Gate Bridge, This Time In Every Single Room

May 31, 2012 at 9:06 AM | by | Comments (0)

Earlier this month, we told you about the Hotel Palomar's new Golden Gate Suite, which was specially designed to coincide with the bridge's 75th anniversary last weekend.

But there's another SF hotel catering to those who want to snuggle up to the iconic bridge while they sleep: Radisson Fisherman's Wharf just completed a multi-million dollar renovation, and as part of the new look, Golden Gate murals have been installed in every single room, sized perfectly to fit each different wall, and adding a burst of color behind each bed.

We poked around the hotel recently—click through to see the rest of the newly-renovated rooms!

This Easter Sunday, Kill A Few Hours Hanging In The Radisson Bloomsbury's 'Egg' Chair

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 9-14 Bloomsbury Street , London, United Kingdom, WC1B 3QD
April 5, 2012 at 9:03 AM | by | Comments (0)

Not all of your Easter plans have to involve chasing down sugar-crazed tykes, who are in turn chasing down the Easter Bunny, who is in turn looking for the nearest dive bar. You could instead pack for an overnighter and take a much-deserved getaway to one of the first class rooms on the seventh floor of Radisson Bloomsbury in London.

While technically all of the rooms in all Radisson Blu Edwardian London hotels this month are offering a free chocolate Easter egg, free full English breakfast and free room upgrade for an Easter package starting at £135/night, only room 7007 in the Radisson Bloomsbury contains what might be London's coolest piece of hotel furniture: the hanging egg chair.
