Hyatt Hotels has been on a roll lately. They've announced a handful of new Andaz Hotels as well as their new all-inclusive brands, Zilara and Ziva and now they've gone and snapped up the Peabody Orlando Convention Center Hotel.
In a press release, Hyatt announced that they will actually buy the property, worth about $717 million, and turn it into the Hyatt Regency Orlando Convention Center . The sale is expected to go through by October 1st and that's when the official Hyatt rebranding will happen.
Aside from being within 15 minutes of the Walt Disney theme parks and other Orlando attractions and next to the Orlando Convention Center, the Peabody is well-known for its duck parade, known as the March of the Peabody Ducks which happens twice a day at 11am and 5pm. Indeed, when we were in the area this past May, our cab driver pointed out the Peabody Hotel to us and said, "Oh every day here they have a great duck parade!" Here's what happens:
The assistant would help head Duckmaster Jason Sensat feed and care for the ducks. The new hire also would guide the four hens and one drake on their two daily walks from their penthouse suite to the marble fountain in the hotel lobby. The walk, a tradition for 78 years, draws hundreds of spectators every day.
The next time the boss sends you to a convention in Orlando, just think: you're really going to Napa. Kind of. You can at least drink yourself into thinking so if you hit up the Peabody Orlando hotel's new Napa Valley-themed restaurant and bar called, um ... Napa.
You may be familiar with this hotel if you've ever set foot in the gargantuan Orange County Convention Center, right across the street. It's one of the few Forbes Four-Star, AAA Four Diamond hotels in Orlando, and it's about to unveil a $450 million expansion next Thursday.
We're thinking that this bar--and another new lounge at the hotel called Rocks--may just be the best thing to hit Orlando since Britney. (Who, incidentally, might like the hotel's new pool cabanas.)
