Sundance Festival Goers Wanted at a Park City Marriott Timeshare

Sundance is about a month away but you know how that scene goes, especially when it comes to finding a place to stay.

Fortunately, HotelChatter reader David is giving us a head start on this. He's offering his Park City Marriott timeshare which has two bedrooms, two baths and sleeps 8 people. It's available the week of Jan. 20th.

I saw your posts last year about how hard it is to find a room for the Sundance Festival.  I'm on the other side of the fence - I've got a room, a Marriott 2BR condo, that I'd like to rent out for the week of Jan 20-27, but I can't figure out where to find a renter. I've posted on Craigslist, but with no response.

To view the full Craigslist ad, click here. He's asking for $800 a night with a 3-night minimum stay. Meanwhile, rooms at the hotel part of this Marriott are already sold out. So grab your favorite backstabbing agent friends and celeb groupies and get your pilates-toned behinds to Sundance.

New York Times Name Drops in Park City

New York Times writer Christopher Solomon recently checked in to the Hotel Park City to take a closer look at the newly expanded property. The resort-ish hotel just added 46 "cottages," one of which gets the once-over this week.

Says Solomon:"the hotel aims for a Legends of the Fall feel, by way of Ralph Lauren" where you can see "everyone from Fortune 500 C.E.O.'s...to stars dropping in for Sundance" who will likely be staying in a suite "dressed in a Zane Grey" and featuring a "Bose Surround Sound system."

And you thought product placement was bad on The Amazing Race! Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like the brand-name focused hotel has the service to match. Room service huevos rancheros and a glass of OJ show up late and cost just under $25. Folks at the front desk didn't know the ins-and-outs of the spa. And the shuttle that takes guests off-property didn't wait for Solomon, even though he called to say he would be on it.

For $600 a night, we'd expect a bit more.

Sundance Film Festival :: Hotel Park City Still Has Rooms

January 10, 2007 at 9:20 AM | by juliana | 1 Comment

Those of you still looking for last-minute rooms and don't want to share with a girl or stay in Salt Lake City, might have some luck at the Hotel Park City.

Based on their website, the hotel has a variety of rooms left from an executive suite to the Penthouse Suites which sleeps up to eight people. Much like the Marlin Hotel in Miami, Hotel Park City isn't posting the room rates on their site, you have to call the reservations number at  435-200-2000 for prices.

So let's say you get past that hurdle or want to visit Park City not during Sundance, what can you expect here? We found a review that pretty much sums up the experience:

Large spacious rooms with sweeping views of the mountains. Nice pool area, nice putting green and very helpful staff memebers. Clean! Loved having a washer/dryer in the room and a fridge. Also nice the large jettub in the bathroom and the marble shower (needs more water pressure). Hotel grounds are nice but don't waste the $ on the valet service when you can park outside the front door for free. Lobby was not really functional but the location is great and the staff was very nice.

Other reviews echoed the blandness of the lobby which lacks a bar or place to have an after-skiing snack. So stick to the Sundance parties.

Blame Hewlett-Packard for Taking Up Rooms at Sundance But There's Still the Ramada

January 9, 2007 at 9:00 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

The Sundance Film Festival starts on Jan. 18 and everyone is scrambling for a room. If you are a female, you might happen to be in luck as one woman is looking for a roommate to share her Prospector Square Lodge room. All others who have been shut-out of a room should probably blame Hewlett Packard.

According to the Backstage at Sundance 2007 Blog, HP has taken up 252 hotel rooms/condo units for the festival while it runs the festival's infrastructure technology.

Meanwhile, a Ramada in nearby Salt Lake City has agreed to be the sponsor for the Clips & Quips blog which is a blog about something TV and entertainment-related.

And you don't have to be a blogger to find lodging. If you don't mind trekking an hour from Salt Lake, rooms at these Ramadas are going for under $100. But if you meet Paris Hilton, don't plan on bringing her back here. Then again, maybe Paris is a Ramada-type of gal.

Sundance Film Festival 2007: Roommate Wanted at Prospector Square Lodge

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 2200 Sidewinder Drive [map], Park City, UT, United States, 84060
January 8, 2007 at 9:00 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Last year we gave you the Official Lodging recommendations of the Sundance Festival and we hate to break it to you, but this year is not much different.

As always the real challenge to finding a hotel in Sundance, should you be one of the lucky, connected entertainment folk to go there, is finding a reasonably priced hotel room. Actually, the real challenge is finding a hotel room period.

Well, we here at HotelChatter put our internet monkeys to work looking for hotel rooms so you don't have to. Our first finding was this little ditty posted on a Bay Area Filmmakers site:

Looking for 1 female roommate to share my hotel room at the prospector lodge, right on free shuttle line, close to all venues & theaters. 2 beds. second week of the festival, january 23rd to 28th. $580 for the 5 nights, taxes incl.

So all you ladies out there, the Prospector Lodge is really the Prospector Square Lodging and Conference Center and its hotel rooms have pretty basic amenities like cable TV, shower, coffee maker, and a radio/alarm clock.

Yet reviews on the place are mixed, partly because the hotel has different management companies for different types of rooms. (See Management response on TripAdvisor here). And sharing a room with a gal you just met might be awkward since the rooms are tiny. But hopefully, you will meet some rich producer and spend the night at his house, right?
