When you think of Spring Break, you normally think of non-stop partying, bikinis, tank tops, shots, beer, drinking games, red Solo cups, instantly regrettable hook-ups and...The Lion King?
That's what's on the "playlist" for the college Spring Break guests at the Holiday Inn Resort on Panama City Beach, as the hotel's owners have been blasting the "Circle of Life" song from the movie soundtrack every morning at 11am. Conveniently, that's also check-out time.
At first, we thought this hotel was doing it to deter Spring Breakers from staying at the hotel, or at the least, getting them to wake up so that they could check-out.
But the resort is actually very Spring Break-friendly and their unusual wake-up call is now a bona fide Spring Break ritual, almost a siren call to begin a new day of partying.

Panama continues to be a sweetheart location for hoteliers and Westin has put another ring on it, by opening a second hotel, simply called the Westin Panama, this month. Located in the Costa del Este area of Panama City, the 218-room hotel is the sister property to the Westin Playa Bonita resort (opened December 2011), just 20 miles away.
While this hotel is mostly aimed at the business traveler—and there are many in town taking care of all those real estate and hotel deals we’ve been hearing about lately—it does have just enough flavor and colorful décor (and the Costa Nova restaurant) to let you know you are in the Caribbean.
What we love most about hotel bars is that they give us a place where we can relax, enjoy the ambiance and a view of the city while nibbling and imbibing without having to leave the property. So naturally we're excited that the Bristol Panama, in the heart of Panama City, has opened 8º58' Lounge, a new bar and restaurant.
Bristol Panama has long been a popular hotel pick (we once chatted with Judy Dench there), thanks to its elegant service, city-center location and 24-hour butler on call. Voted one of Condé Nast Traveler's "Reader's Choice Top 10 Hotels in Central America"( 2009) it is one of Panama City’s few Panamanian-owned luxury properties.
Hard Rock Hotel execs including Michael Shindler, Executive VP (third from left), rock out with their guitars out at the Hard Rock Hotel Panama press conference.
Now that we've got the Van Halen tune in your head, let us give you some more detes on the Hard Rock Hotel Panama Megapolis which is expected to open in December 2011 in Panama City.
The 66-story hotel will have 1,449 rooms, including a whopping 796 suites, some of which will be the brand's signature Rock Star Suites. The detes on the room designs and amenities are scant but guests will be able to create a music playlist all their own through the hotel's "Sound of Your Stay" music collection.
Throughout the property will be eight restaurants and bars, a club on the 62nd floor, a 7,800-sq.ft. Rock Spa and a Rock Shop where you can buy Hard Rock-branded gear. But sadly, no casino which means it will be more like the Hard Rock San Diego. Still a fun spot but we miss the slots.
