It's only been a few weeks since the Palazzo Las Vegas fully opened but we decided to check-out what the folks on TripAdvisor are saying about Sin City's newest casino hotel.

As is expected from a new hotel, there have been some hiccups. Some guests report key cards not working properly, others report some unfinished room amenities like a mini-bar with no drinks and holes in the wall. But for the most part, people liked the Palazzo and were very understanding of these minor glitches.

One thing that stands out are the complaints about having to use the Canyon Ranch Spa in the Venetian. Several reviewers complained about the spa experience (which we ourselves loved so much two years ago.) Here's one guest's take on it:

Took us probably 1/2 hour to find out were the Venetian spa was located. The service of the Venetian Grand Canyon was terrible. The staff in the spa were so loud. They were talking to each other making loud jokes, pulling merchandise from boxes and then crushing the empty boxes with their feet.
People go to a spa to relax. I was very disturbed by the incident. The spa showers were terrible. They could upgrade at least the shower heads.

The Palazzo will unveil a newer larger version of the Canyon Ranch Spa inside the Palazzo but guests will have to wait until Spring before they can use it.

Palazzo Owner So Over Vegas

The Palazzo Las Vegas may be kind of a bust, but that doesn't mean Sheldon Adelson isn't the third-richest guy in America. The 74-year-old hotel mogul--and majority shareholder of Las Vegas Sands, which operates the Palazzo, the Venetian and others--is about to give up on Vegas from the sounds of a recent interview in USA Today.

See, Vegas may be a mint, but as Adelson says himself, way more people live near Macao than live near Southern Nevada. So he's focusing on the Chinese enclave and gambling mecca, where he hopes to turn the Cotai Strip into "Asia's Las Vegas."

While rival hotelier Steve Wynn has been comparatively slow to crack the Macao market, Adelson is working with a supply-side mentality. (If you build it, they will come.) His 3,000-room Venetian Macao brought the total number of rooms in the region to 8,500, which he says is far from enough for the hundreds of millions of people living nearby.

Mommy Hotels: Because BabyMoons and ConceptionMoons Weren't Enough

If you're one of those people who took a ConceptionMoon with the hopes of creating a baby and then a BabyMoon with the hopes of one last quality vacation before a child arrives, then you'll probably dig the newest Mommy Hotel trend.

The NYT reports that the Parrot Mill Inn in Chatham, N.J. is part of a growing trend of hotels and inns catering to new and exhausted parents. Their second-floor suite features a changing-table, baby-soothing music, and a lactation consultant on call. All for $500 a night. We get the lactation consultant but if you've spent money on all the gadgets, gizmos and other nursery amenities that a baby "needs", isn't this just a little extravagant?

Anyhow, in other non-lactating news:

· Hyatt Hotels have begun "Web-In" and "Web-Out," an  online check-in and check-out system for all guests at the 100 North American Hyatt properties. Visit Hyatt.com for the HowTo.
· Philadelphia's hotel boom is still going on, despite market woes. The city of Brotherly Love will get a Le Meridien, a Hotel Palomar and a Four Points by Sheraton, to name a few.
· The temporary Stoli Hotel returns again. This time to Miami Beach.

Booking Palazzo Las Vegas: Some Options

The Palazzo Las Vegas is open, so they say. When we looked online for rooms tonight, the prices listed started at $499 for a Palazzo Luxury room with a king bed but were sold out.

We then called the reservations line to see if the rooms were open and the number listed for the Palazzo suite reservations forwarded us to the Venetian reservations line. Finally, after a wait of about 10 minutes an operator came on the phone and detailed some of our Palazzo lodging options.

Here's the breakdown:
· Jan 11-13: Confirmed views of the strip at $299 a night in Palazzo Luxury King room which is 720 sq.ft. Unconfirmed views of the strip (most likely this kind of view) for $259 a night in the same room type.
· Jan. 18-20, Opening Weekend: Rooms are cheaper during opening weekend. Maybe because more rooms will have opened up, maybe because Palazzo is keen to have a full house on opening weekend. Confirmed views of the strip start at $239 for Friday night and $299 for Saturday night. Unconfirmed views are at $199 Friday night and $259 Saturday night. We double-checked the website and the prices were the same for both weekends.

However, the reservations agent also tried to sell us on a "This Day Only" offer which would include two for one entries to Canyon Ranch Spa and $20 per day in dining credits to participating restaurants. But we had to book today to get this offer. Still, that might mean a better value for your money can be found if you through a reservations agent for Palazzo rather than online. With Vegas getting increasingly expensive, that $20 a day dining credit can help.

Booked a room at the Palazzo? Tell us how you did it. And better yet, tell us how your stay went.

Hotel Countdown: One Week Until Palazzo Las Vegas Soft Opens

What lays behind these walls is a fashionista's dream come true.

The Palazzo Las Vegas is set to open next Tuesday and we are sure to be covering its first reviews.

However, we will probably be more excited when The Shoppes at the Palazzo open on January 18, 2008. This mega mall will be about 450,000 square-feet and filled with all of the finest things money can buy. It will be anchored by a 85,000-square-foot Barneys department store and other haute designer boutiques will surround it like Tory Burch, Christian Louboutin, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Van Cleef & Arpels.

And as we mentioned before, restaurants from Mario Batali, Emeril Lagasse, and Charlie Trotter are expected as well as an off-shoot of the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire's celebrity hot spot CUT by Wolfgang Puck. Other franchises include Dos Caminos, SushiSamba, Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro, and a Grand Lux Cafe. (They already have one of these in the Venetian so we aren't sure if they are replacing  this or just going to have two Grand Lux Cafes.)

Pretty much the only problem we have with the Shoppes is the Olde English spelling. That annoys us almost as much as a cleaning business called Krazy Kleaners.
