The Veil Has Been Lifted From Waldorf-Astoria's Presidential Suite. Now What?

Barring the possibility that you're a former President—or that you don't mind spending $10,000/night—then you've likely never caught a glimpse of the Waldorf-Astoria's Presidential Suite. Why? Because until recently, the hotel has never allowed photography inside the suite.
Lucky for us, the NY Daily News has taken on the oppressive task of video touring the entire space—from gleaming top (the crystal chandelier in the master bedroom) to well-polished bottom (the black-and-white tiled bathroom floor).
Now, the goods are out in the open for all to see. So, what do you think?

The POTUS Is Just Like Us--He Stays at The Element Hotel!

It's been a while since we checked in on the hotel habits of the POTUS but yesterday we we were psyched to see that Barack Obama stayed at a hotel that we've actually stayed at before...twice!
When visiting Las Vegas on the campaign trail, Obama eschewed the hotel casinos on the Strip and instead took over the entire Element Las Vegas hotel in Summerlin, about 15 minutes from the Strip. 8newsnow.com reports:
Onlookers were curious as to why President Obama chose to stay farther away from the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip. "This Element is earth friendly, and I think he's trying to promote that on his visit," Carol Bieganowski said.

Obama Receives A Special Guest From The W Hotel. Again.

For the second year in a row, the W Washington DC graciously offered to host the lucky turkey that had been spared his 400°F fate. The turkey traveled from Pennsylvania to Washington DC in order to get pardoned by the President himself, and while in town, got to spend the night at the hotel. Pet-friendly amenities and all.
A custom room was offered up to the turkey, including: added sawdust on the floor as well as a W-branded "munchie box" filled with soy, corn and cranberries. Wow, they really step it up for these birds! We can't remember the last time a hotel modified its regular room service menu options for us. Though we're pretty sure it involved some sort of extra fee.

Angella Reid Says Bye-Bye Ritz Carlton, Hello White House

Almost three years ago, America welcomed its first black president. This week, history was made again when the White House hired its first-ever female Chief Usher, Angella Reid.
OK, fine, not quite as ground-breaking as Obama's inauguration. But still! One small step...yada yada. Reid will leave her post as general manager of the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City to take over the coveted position, which entails housekeeping duties like property inventory, state dinners, and Inauguration Day house moves. That last one's gotta be a doozy—moving the president isn't exactly your standard U-Haul by-the-hour operation!
Two decades of work for the Ritz Carlton brand (at properties in Miami, New York, D.C., and Rocky Hill, CT) should have prepared Reid for the role, which former Chief Usher Gary Walters told C-Span is "not always easy".

Obama To Protesters Outside The Sheraton: "I Heard You Guys"

The Sheraton hasn't seen this much action since Lady Gaga took over the Sheraton On The Park in Sydney last year. And even then, it was more about her choice of hotel than anything she actually did there. The Sheraton New York received a different kind of publicity yesterday, as gay marriage advocates protested Obama's appearance at a highly-anticipated LGBT fundraiser inside the hotel. If you were staying there last night, we hope you at least got an upgrade. Or free Justin Bieber tickets. Or something.
Amid the camera crews, barricades, and hand-written rainbow-colored placards, protesters lined up outside the hotel and chanted, "I am somebody, I demand full equality." It was impossible to miss them. The generic midtown location was probably chosen intentionally against more public downtown spots that would have generated far more scandal—though we think the Four Points by Sheraton Chelsea would have been a great choice. Check out a video of the protesters below.

The W D.C. Spent Thanksgiving With Obama and a Turkey

How was your Turkey Day? Stay at any hotels this holiday weekend? The turkeys pardoned by President Obama did.
That's right. You know all about the Presidential tradition of saving a bird--but did you know that the turkey also gets an all-expenses-paid trip to D.C., complete with a stay at the W Washington D.C.?
In case you missed the pardoning ceremony held in the Rose Garden last week, this year's National Turkey is named Apple, and his feathered friend, Cider. As President Obama explained, the turkeys came from the Foster Farms Wellsford Ranch, just outside of Modesto, California. They made a shortlist and then the "big prize--life."

POTUS Rents Out an Entire Hotel in New Delhi, The Maurya

The talking heads may still be yapping about how much President Obama's trip to India is costing, but the locals are loving it, with the ITC Maurya giving the President and First Lady a lavish welcome today.
The hotel not only spruced up its gardens and filled its lobby with flowers for the Obamas' arrival--it also organized a traditional 'Brides of India' ceremonial welcome.

POTUS Hotel Hopping Hits the Fontainebleau in Miami

Miami’s Fontainebleau Resort is no stranger to celebs, from Frank Sinatra to Dennis Rodman. But last night the revamped resort got a return visit from the most famous person on the planet: POTUS.
President Obama has been on a bit of a hotel tour lately, doing his Democratic Party fund-raising at a series of fancy dinners across the country. Last night, his arrival at one of these events was marked with protests as about 200 people carrying placards lined Collins Avenue across from the Fontainebleau.
Inside, around 450 people paid between $500 and $15,000 a head to hear POTUS talk, raising an estimated $1.5 million all up. (We’re guessing that’s just a little over what LIV or Hakkasan rakes in on an average Monday night.)
