The Holiday Inn in Dallas Spiffs Up for George W. Bush's New Library

The 42nd president of the United States, George W. Bush is getting his own presidential library at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and the hotels are expecting to fill up because of it. Yes, differing political leanings aside, President Barack Obama and all living presidents will attend the dedication of the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum tomorrow though the library officially open to the public the first week of May.
Word on the street is that both the Hotel Palomar and the Hotel Lumen (both Kimpton Hotels), which are within walking distance of the library, are sold out or close to it. And one hotel, The Holiday Inn Dallas, Central-Park Cities recently underwent a $9 million, year-long renovation to spiff up its offerings for the influx of library visitors (estimated to be about 500,000 a year.)

The Hilton Chicago Spent Nearly $2 Million on Their Conrad Suite

The largest hotel suite in the Midwest just got a whole lot swankier. The Conrad Hilton Suite at the Hilton Chicago recently finished a $1.8 million renovation. Yes, well over a milli was spent on this two-story suite overlooking Grant Park and Michigan Avenue. So we gots to know--what's in it?
For starters, the suite has its own Grand Salon with a fireplace, a dining room for seating up to 14 guests, a library with a pool table and a bar, and a private kitchen. The suite also got a decor makeover and now features a new color palette of "neutral tones with crisp white trim", dark parquet floors, a Carrara Gold marble fireplace, a cleverly disguised television that pops up out of a dresser via the in-room iPad, and an old-school grand piano.
The suite's three bedrooms each have their own bathrooms along with freestanding bathtubs, glass showers, private dressing rooms and their own night-cap bars. This suite is now fit for a king, or at least the president. In fact, the suite is often referred to as the "Midwest White House" and every president since Reagan has spent the night here.
No doubt the Conrad's renovation has only made Barack Obama's hotel choices when visiting his hometown a lot tougher. Does he stay in a two-story suite worth nearly $2 million or does he go with the suite named after him at the Fairmont Chicago? File this under Problems We Wish We Had. Sigh.

HC Celebrates Today With One Sweet Presidential Suite

Did you work today? We know a few lucky firms that had off today to celebrate all things Presidential. We're quite jealous. Last time we had this day off, we we wore tube socks, a bubble coat and a hoodie…sigh. Anyway, while those folks are out there purchasing appliances and stimulating the economy, we'll stimulate your hotel lust.
Yes, we've picked *one* Presidential Suite to highlight on this day of days. One sweet suite with its over-the-top opulence.
We picked the tony St. Regis Hotel in New York. The 3,000 square foot, three-bedroom palatial Presidential Suite, is a "Grand New York" apartment that's as swank as they come, but not obnoxious, given the hotel's historical beginnings. The large marble foyer leads to a formal dining room that winds into an decadent living room. There's also a yummy walnut-paneled library, and four bathrooms that we'd make sure we used each one, just for GP. And the views are tremendous--Central Park and Fifth Avenue. There is a full-kitchen, but it has a separate entrance-natch.

Coolest Hotel Instagram Of The Day Goes To...

...the Sunset Tower Hotel.
What can only be described as one of the most thrilling events of last night's Golden Globe awards was President Bill Clinton taking to the stage and introducing a clip from "Lincoln", the nominated film from director Steven Spielberg.
It was apparently an unexpected appearance, and we're certain there were more than a few swooning ladies (and men) in the Beverly Hilton's International Ballroom.
So, we're even more delighted to come across this Instagram photo from the hotel saying "Proud to have Former Pres Clinton with us after the #goldenglobes last night."
Normally the STH is home to Vanity Fair's post-Oscar party, so we're not sure if there was a post GG soiree going on, but we're impressed with the prez's choice of digs (it's Jennifer Aniston's go-to) as it's full of character, moderately priced at around $300 a night, and a pretty class act, to boot.

This package is for all of you political animals out there or for those of you who may have just a wee crush on President Obama. And trust us, that goes for males and females; we hear all the sighs of jealousy when it comes to photos of him and FLOTUS.
So, it's just at the right daydreamy Friday moment that we're thinking about Ritz-Carlton, Washington's full backstage pass, so to speak, to some of the Inauguration events happening in D.C.
We hope you’re ready, ‘cause this package has lots of perks:

The Unofficial Shonda Rhimes Guide To Washington D.C.'s "Scandal"-ous Hotels

If you’re like us, you are completely addicted to Shonda Rhimes’ heart-stopping political drama, “Scandal”, which takes place in Washington, D.C. The gripping series is about a president torn in more ways than we can count (watch and see!).
We figure on this Election Day, if you have to wait in line to vote for the next president, and while we all wait for the results, we'll entertain you with a few famous D.C. hotels that have been the location of a juicy scandal or two.
The hit television show's fictitious president Fitzgerald Grant seems to prefer his dalliances and dirt to occur in the White House and sometimes even in broad daylight! We think Rhimes should take some clues to these real-life political dramas and give us some hotel highlights to look forward to on Thursday nights!

Is This What Presidential Candidates Do In Hotel Rooms?
Time for a touch of levity, we think, and this one we couldn't resist. A video by Funny or Die detailing what life might look like inside the Boca Raton hotel rooms of Barack Obama and Mitt Romney while they're on the campaign trail.
We cracked up at the Michelle Obama bits and gigglesnorted at Ann Romney's choice of bedside reading material.
Sigh. If only politics were always this funny!

Bedbugs and Crack Dealers: What DNC Reporters Are Complaining About In Charlotte

Forget, for a minute, the glowing reviews of Michelle Obama's and Bill Clinton's speeches at the DNC. It turns out another thing reporters' minds were the rotten hotels they were assigned for the event, which took place this past week in Charlotte, NC. But cramped rooms and bad service were the least of it—we're talking drug dealers, prostitutes, and bed bugs.
The bed bugs in particular were an issue, as the Washington Times reported that several of the DNC media-hosting hotels have dealt with bedbug infestation complaints in the past year.
The scene was enough to make radio talk show host David Webb comment:
"It comes down to organizing a good event, and frankly, that says something about how they do things here."

In The Same Week As Katie Holmes, Obama Drops In On The NoMad

Plenty of news sites were abuzz yesterday with Obama's five-hour fundraising stopover in Manhattan—though most of the information was posted as traffic warnings about the multiple streets and avenues that would be closed off by the President's motorcade.
But one detail about the event caught our eye: the venue chosen for the fundraising event (tickets for which went for a reported $40,000 a head) was none other than Manhattan's newest 'in' hotel, The NoMad.

Obama Lovingly Shares His Childhood Memories Of Weekends Spent At HoJo

Howard Johnson sure is getting a lot of love these days. First, it got featured on an episode of Mad Men (which, in turn, prompted a nifty promotion whereby you could get a free room if your name was actually Don Draper). Now, it's getting shout-outs from the Prez himself.
During a speech in Cedar Rapids, IA yesterday, Obama mentioned how he used to take childhood visits to HoJos with his mom, grandmother and sister.
The Des Moines Register points out that "the reference was meant to reinforce his middle-class roots, and paint a picture of the modest luxuries that should be available to Americans who work hard."
Fair enough. Though it's also worth mentioning, they're doing wonderful things with Holiday Inns these days too.
