Where Can You Find Three-Bedroom Pool Villas for $270 a Night? The Answer: Phuket

The executives of the Outrigger Hotels group, we suspect, are a bit partial to vacationing on Phuket in sunny Thailand. Earlier this year they opened the first Outrigger in Phuket with the Outrigger Serenity Phuket, and from December 1, they're adding yet another spot to stay when the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort opens up.
It's part of the Laguna Phuket "destination resort", so it's the kind of place you can go and never venture far away from. Within the Laguna there are some thirty places to get food and drink, there's a spa, and also the Laguna Phuket Golf Course.
If this kind of resort suits you, then pay attention to their opening specials: they've got two-bedroom villas from 6,000 Baht ($180) a night, or three-bedroom pool villas (covering 500 square yards) for 9,000 Baht ($270). Share these villas between four or six people and the prices are already more than reasonable, but they also include breakfast delivered to your villa each morning, transfers, butler service and our pet fave, free WiFi.
Oh, and the deals go through to March 31, 2010. This resort is a place to relax, rather than get cultural, but sometimes relaxing is all you need.

Outrigger Serenity Phuket Launches Yacht and Resort in April

Get excited. There's another Outrigger Resort about to open up, and we have a soft spot for these guys ever since they made promo videos that were actually interesting to watch.
The new Outrigger is the Outrigger Serenity Terraces Resort Phuket in Chalong Bay, a quiet part of Phuket. It's all set to open on April 2 this year and they have an opening special for two nights with room upgrade and a few meals starting at 13,000 Baht ($360) for the "Serenity Room", and triple that if you want the best of the best--a two bedroom beachfront suite.
The nice bonus at the Outrigger Serenity is that they own their own yacht, "Lady Anita", which guests will be able to use for dinner cruises and island hopping; if it's already in use, there's always the speedboat or at a pinch, a catamaran or kayak. Or stay on dry land and use their WiFi (although we're not sure that having WiFi on a tropical island is such a good thing).
Just for the record, this picture's also a promotional one but like their videos, it's a bit more natural than what many other hotels provide--it makes us happy that they haven’t photoshopped the clouds away.

Outrigger Fiji Has Hotel Promo Videos That Are Nearly Worth Watching

While we might have been complaining recently about a few dull hotel videos, we found a slightly-above-average example today. The Outrigger on the Lagoon has just released what it's calling online DVDs which are, simply put, hotel promotion videos, but they're much more interesting to watch than the other stuff we've seen lately.
Yes, there's exotic music and promotional voiceovers, but the filming is pretty high quality and it all comes out looking very professional. Plus, there are lots of action shots of people doing what they should be doing on holidays--relaxing in a hammock with a drink, staring out at the view from their balcony, even sitting in bed (in their custom-made resort dressing gowns, of course).
