Who Booked More Rooms In 2012: Hilton Or Airbnb?

Have you ever booked a stay through Airbnb? If yes, then skip to the next paragraph. If not, here's a quickie backgrounder: started four years ago, the vacation rental site allows travelers all over the world to book stays in other people's apartments and homes—just like a hotel room, but often much, much cheaper and a quicker way to connect with locals.
Needless to say, the company is giving hotels a serious run for their money.
How much money, you ask? A recent statistic actually found that by December 31, Airbnb (which is now available in 192 countries) will have surpassed Hilton in number of rooms booked. For evidence, see the below tweet from tech leader Tim O'Reilly:

When It Comes To Hotel Views, Perfect Just Isn't Good Enough

A new booking site is cashing in on the demand for an above-average hotel room view. Offering specific suites in 100 properties all over the world, The Most Perfect View was launched this month by 29-year-old Portguese entrepreneur Paulo Palha. The inspiration behind the company? EM Forster's Room With A View, of course. Though whether or not Julian Sands is included in any of the deals remains unclear (sadly, we're guessing not).
Rebel against a previous traumatizing anti-view experience and pick a view that's 'perfectly' suited to your tastes. From Ocean House in Rhode Island to the Shangri-La Tokyo, there is plenty to choose from—and hotels are browsable via an easy-to-use interactive map organized by cities or clickable criteria boxes like "by the water," "mountains," "urban," etc. When you arrive at the proper hotel page, scroll through high-res images to see just how "perfect" the view is. You like? You book!
