Courtney Love to Brings Her Special Brand of Crazy To The Standard on NYE

Even though this is a post about a New Year’s Eve party, consider it a Public Service Announcement: Courtney Love is performing at The Standard NYC on New Year’s Eve.
Now, we made that bold but we feel like it deserves flashing red warning lights around it. We can’t think of anything worse than spending the first moments of 2010 with Love, but maybe you’re the kind of person who digs watching train wrecks happen right before your eyes, and can steel yourself for an awkward emotional outburst from the messiest person in the room come midnight.
Maybe you’d even like to spend $250 and up for that honor? That’s the starting price for tickets to this “party”—and they go into the thousands if you want a table with views of the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty.

Get Your Ball Drop and Booze Downtown at the Tribeca Grand Hotel

Ah, New Year’s Eve in New York City. The ball drop! The freezing temperatures, the hordes of tourists, the no-alcohol rule, the generic Midtown hotels close to Times Square ... Doesn’t sound like much of a party, does it? We can understand the appeal of watching a big, sparkly ball drop to ring in the New Year (kind of), but everything else surrounding this tradition is pretty miserable. If you can’t do without your sparkly ball, however, and watching it on TV isn’t enough, all you have to do is head downtown where the Tribeca Grand offers its own ball-drop in a much more festive setting.
The Tribeca Grand Ball Drop is an annual tradition at the hotel—the ball is a replica of the Times Square ball of 1953 and is lowered by ropes from the top of the 8-storey atrium. And, unlike the overcoated ball-watchers up in Times Square, you can get drunk! The open bar is from 9 p.m.–1 a.m. in the Church Lounge, and there will also be hors d’oeuvres and desserts. Three packages are available for the bash: General Admission for $125 per person, Reserved Searing for $249 (this includes a Champagne toast), and Premium Seating for $299.

Play Cinderella (In a Zebra-Print Robe) at Palomar Dallas on NYE

Planning to whoop it up in Dallas this New Year's Eve? If you get a little sloppy—or lucky—before the clock strikes twelve, the Hotel Palomar will be your Prince Charming and grant you a room for 50 percent off. If you and your pumpkin-coach arrive at check-in after 11 p.m.
The deal is available now through December 31, but of course, there is limited availability on New Year's Eve. The Cinderella rate is offered for same-day reservations only, and you need to use CIN as your rate code when booking online or over the phone. (So plug the hotel's number into your cell now, and get ready to call on the 31st). The deal will bring rates down as low as $99. Regular rates still available for New Year's Eve start at $189 a night.

There's Still Time for New Year's Eve at the Met London
The Met Lobby clock
UPDATE: We just heard from the Met's people that NYE just sold out. Ignore the website, which is showing availability still. We'll bring you places which do have rooms still over the next few days.
If you want to come to London for New Year’s Eve, you’d better hurry up and book. We just did a search on all our favourite hotels and were surprised to find that most of them had sold out. And the ones that hadn’t were hawking their spare rooms for pretty stiff amounts.
One that surprisingly isn’t, though, is the The Metropolitan. And not only is it not ramping up its prices, it’s even throwing in a discount if you stay two nights. Lovely!
Normal prices for the 31st start at £209 for a City Room, but with the Ultimate Savings Offer (just stay two nights or more, Sunday to Thursday, and book 7 days ahead) you can get one for £199, which isn’t bad at all. Just book today if you can – the rooms are extremely limited.

Luau in San Francisco for New Year's Eve

It's hard to believe, but New Year's Eve is less than two months away, which means a parade of hotel party tickets will soon be—or already are—available to the public. Most of these are highfalutin affairs where you'll find women competing in unofficial "Who has the shortest skirt?" contests, and where bottles of champagne circulate throughout the evening. These swanky soirees are easy enough to find, but for an unusual change of pace, you may want to consider heading to The Fairmont in San Francisco, where an inaugural New Year's luau will be held at the historic Tonga Room.
HotelChatter reader Mark, a long time Tonga Room patron, tipped us off to this unique NYE event and had good things to say about his experiences there:
On ocassion I visit the Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar to have a drink and some appetizers. It's a historic restaurant and bar...and unusually so has a rain storm every half hour or so...right in the bar area! I just heard from the staff last week that for the first time they are [having] a luau for New Year's Eve, and this isn't in Hawaii...it's in San Francisco! Kinda off the wall and should be fun.
