Go Down The Shore For New Year's at The Chelsea Atlantic City

Where: 111 S Chelsea Ave [map], Atlantic City, NJ, United States, 08401

In case MTV's show Jersey Shore hasn't completely scared/scarred you, Atlantic City is a great option for getting out and partying on New Year's Eve. It will be cold anyways, so all the action and fist pumping will be indoors.

First we talked about how The Borgata is having everyone and their moms over for star-studded events, but we're liking the quieter, more intimate offering at The Chelsea.

There are technically two options for ringing in 2010 at The Chelsea: the "Boardwalk" package which includes staying the night and more, or the "Double Down" package, which is only tickets to the festivities.

Looking to say goodbye to the craptastic year that was 2009 and still in need of a hotel room somewhere? We've already told you where to book in Miami, New York and the important timezones but we'll be hitting up more cities today for New Year's Eve. Did we miss a city? Want a better deal? Let us know and we'll help you out.

There's no contest on where to go for Orlando's coolest New Year's Eve party. Made of more than 50 tons of ice, Icebar Orlando is decorated with ice sculptures and frozen thrones, where you can sip libations from ice glasses. There's actually only one section completely made of ice, but don't fret about freezing in your skimpy NYE dress; the bar lets you borrow a parka and gloves so you can enjoy your drink in the 27-degree frostiness.

For New Year's Eve, the bar will host the Ice Ball, which includes live entertainment, some vodka—which doesn't freeze—in the icy section of the bar, bubbly at midnight and a breakfast buffet at 1 a.m. for $75 or $150 per couple. If you can't shake the cold in the bar's regular-temperature section, the Fire Lounge, book a room at the Homewood Suites Orlando-International Drive/Convention Center.

Dinner and Sake at Donovan House is Our Pick for NYE in D.C.

D.C. may be all business most of the year, but boy, can Washington get down with OTT celebrations come New Year’s Eve. This year’s lavish parties include a James Bond License to Thrill NYE Thunderball 2010 gala at the Washington Plaza Hotel (stilt walkers! Sean Connery look-alikes!) and another round of Big Night D.C. at the Gaylord National Hotel.

Maybe it’s just us, but isn’t there something kind of distasteful about such unbridled indulgence in a place that’s meant to remind us that there’s a recession to climb out of and a health plan to work out? No?

Well, however you swing it, our pick for New Year’s Eve in D.C. is more sedate but doesn’t require skimping on the fun. And it involves sake! Zentan, the pan-Asian restaurant inside Donovan House is serving a $65 4-course prix-fixe on Thursday night, with three seatings: 6 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m. Reservations were still available for all three times when we checked this morning, and we definitely recommend opting for the sake pairing.

We Find Denver NYE Alternatives to The Ritz-Carlton's $1,300 Rooms

Hotels in the Mile High City can get away with charging mile high prices on New Year's Eve, what with an influx of skiers, families on holiday, and 20-somethings hoping to reenact party scenes from The Real World: Denver.

In our quest to book a stay near downtown festivities, which include two showy fireworks displays, we found that many prime hotels are sold-out. The Ritz-Carlton has space to spare, but it'll cost you at least $1,200 for a Luxury Suite, one of only two room types we saw available.

Just as we thought we were irrevocably screwed, persistent sleuthing unearthed two major hotels packages worth jumping on now. Find out what rooms are still up for grabs after the jump.

The view at midnight from the Blauwbrug

Amsterdam's so famously louche that spending Thursday there would be a New Year's to end all New Year's, right?

Kind of. You can get stoned as you like, obvs, but the Dutch actually make it a rather civilised do, with fireworks going off left right and centre. If you want fireworks and impromptu street parties, you need one of the main squares - like Nieuwmarkt or Dam Square - or stand on any of the central canals.

But if you want a full-on partay, try Jimmy Woo - reputation has this place down as the best club in the city, and Caspar the owner is a riot (we met him the other week). Expect a classy affair - Moet and caviar are doing the rounds - running from 11pm to 5am. Presale tickets cost €55 from here.

As for where to stay: there's swank, but it doesn't come cheap. Caspar's favourite hotel is the Dylan, and it has some superluxe suites free... but they're going for a whopping €950 (garden view) or €1050 for a canal view.

Tokyo's Mandarin Oriental Rings In 2010 With All-You-Can-Drink Moet

Where: 2-1-1 Nihonbashi Muromachi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan
December 28, 2009 at 3:14 PM | by | Comments (0)

The new year in Japan, or "Shogatsu," is typically a time of praying and visiting holy sites, but since our holy sites are the best hotels in town, we figured spending Shogatsu partying it up at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo is an acceptable option. And the good news is, you don't have to pay the $765-and-up that rooms are going for during the holiday weekend to partake in the festivities.

Instead, we recommend making reservations for the 10pm-to-1am party at the hotel's 37th floor Mandarin Bar. At $163 per person, you'll save $600 by not opting for the room, and yet you'll be guzzling unlimited Moet & Chandon champagne, including Rosé Impérial, and Brut Impérial. Not to mention you'll have the stunning view over the city and—hopefully—new friends with whom to dance the year away.

If you still want to visit the temples or take advantage of the special openings of the Imperial Palace grounds, then you can use all that saved money to perhaps hire a car to take you around on New Year's Day, while you recover from your hangover in the back seat.

To reserve a spot at the Mandarin Bar, call +81 (3) 3270 8188 or email motyo-fbres(at)mohg.com.

If you want the more drink for your buck this New Year's Eve, head to the Hard Rock Chicago for a bumpin' shindig with lots of all-included liquor.

Lavish Magazine, a publication geared to hotels, is throwing the party with the Lincoln Park Young Professionals, which ensures a young worker bee crowd will attend looking to let loose. And they'll have plenty of help with a four-hour open bar of premium liquor. There will be wine tastings and a Diamond Vodka martini bar to keep things loosey-goosey, as well as a Champagne toast at midnight, of course.

Flake out on planning your South Beach New Year? Yes, most of the NYE parties—and hot hotels—in Miami are already sold out but if you head just a little further north on A1A you can still ring in 2010 overlooking a SoFla beach. The W Fort Lauderdale--which recently hosted the "Real Housewives" gals-- is throwing a private bash at its Living Room and Whiskey Blue, and hotel guests get “insider access” to the party if they book the New Year’s Eve package, starting at $579 a night.

Tickets to the party alone start at $100 per person, but hotel guests booking the package get a 20% discount, as well as a $50 credit to use for brunch at Steak 954 on New Year’s Day. DJ Bill Gotti will be spinning at the NYE party, which includes open bar from 9 p.m.–1 a.m., and a champagne toast at midnight. (Don’t forget that the Living Room has “mattress-inspired seating” and “a sultry hidden nook”—spots just screaming out for some midnight kissing action.)

Have a Classy Classical New Year's Eve at The Fairmont San Francisco

If you're celebrating New Year's Eve in San Francisco, then staying in the city is a must. Trust us; we've braved BART on the biggest party night of the year, only to be met with the most obnoxious, horrific scene on train cars. We'll spare you the graphic details, but let's just say that being in a confined space and witnessing the result of one-too-many vodka martinis consumed isn't pretty.

There's Still Room at the (City) Inn For New Year's In London

London was all set to be on a bit of a downer for New Year’s Eve this year. In the interests of economizing, Mayor Boris has cut the firework display from 10 minutes to 7.5 minutes and scrapped the traditional free rail travel into town.

That doesn’t seem to have put anyone off though – pretty much all the central hotels have sold out. When we called up the Royal Horseguards this morning – which looks directly at the firework display on the Thames – the guy laughed and told us they get booked up a year ahead.

Anyway, we have found one place that still has availability – and if you get a room on a high enough floor, you should be able to glimpse the fireworks from your boudoir, too. City Inn Westminster still has rooms available on New Year’s for £259. Not its usual bargain prices, but the free wiFi and in-room iMac should make the price a little more palatable.

The Nation's Most Expensive New Year's Eve Package Includes Hotel Stay and 'New Boobs'

December 28, 2009 at 10:48 AM | by | Comments (0)

NOTE to PR People: Anytime you put the word "boobs" in the headline of a press release, we're gonna pay attention. But this press release is so cracked out, we can't even take it seriously.

Apparently, some plastic surgeon named Dr. Stephen Greenberg will be holding a press conference in front of the W South Beach any minute now to announce "The Nation's Most Expensive New Year's Eve Package" at $100,000 which will include tickets to Lady Gaga, John Legend and Brody Jenner's New Year's Eve concerts (WTF? Brody Jenner performs?) along with first class tickets from NYC to Miami, a month-long stay at a penthouse hotel in South Beach and a set of new boobs.

Yes, new boobs. No, we're not making this up. Here's the press release:

We trot the globe searching out deals for our readers, but in this case, our reputation preceded us and the Hollywood Heights Hotel decided to share a deal with us specifically for you.

Here’s how it works: the first 20 HotelChatter readers to call in for a reservation from January 1-February 15 will get a room for $10. That’s not a typo, we said $10. All you have to do is call (323) 762-1049 and mention the code HH2010, then just pick your night.

You must stay at the hotel sometime in 2010, and once you make your reservation it can’t be changed, so take a page from old St. Nick, make a list and check it twice before you commit to a date.
