All Around The Wauwinet Inn, the Only Relais & Châteaux Property on Nantucket

A wedding tent goes up on the lawn
Last weekend, the island of Nantucket played host to some 46 weddings on its 50 square miles of land; that's almost one wedding per mile. One of those weddings completely took over the 32 rooms, cottages and great lawn of The Wauwinet Inn, a Relais & Châteaux property that sits at the very northeast point of the island, but we managed to sneak in and have a look around before any bouquets were tossed.
Something you should know right away about The Wauwinet is that it does not allow guests under the age of 12no babies, no toddlers, no pre-teens. Sure, they may come to dine at the restaurant, but staying here is a get-away-from-it-all retreat thing that includes getting away from the possibility of kids running up and down the halls. And, since The Wauwinet start at $225 per night but hits $595 during the height of summer, this guarantee of peace and quiet can be worth the extra money.

Found It! The Perfect Summer Hotel Lunch
Tomorrow is officially the first day of summer. This past weekend, we ate what we're declaring the official lunch of summer. It went down at TOPPER'S, the restaurant of The Wauwinet, a historic Inn situated at the very Northeast tip of Nantucket Island. Tomorrow we'll welcome summer properly with a tour of the Inn itself.
Want to chow down on all this? The Wauwinet, despite being one of the most remote inns on the island, is surprisingly one of the easiest to reach thanks to its free shuttle that picks up in central Nantucket town several times a day and makes the 20-minutes drive out to TOPPER'S. Check the schedule on the bulletin board next to the door of the Nantucket Visitor's Bureau Info Center.
· APPETIZER: Steamed jumbo asparagus with hollandaise sauce $9 (above)
Asparagus is at the tippy-top of its season in late spring, so this is a perfect transitional dish before fully jumping into summer foods. Plus you should eat your greens.

Nantucket's White Elephant Introduces a Lobster Liquid Lunch

It's not too soon to kick off our Summer Cocktails series, is it? Good! All summer long we'll profile fun new summer drinks served at hotels around the world. Got one we should know about? Send us the recipe with a photo of the drink. Otherwise, enjoy and @reply us when you're wasted!
We'll admit it, we have already had the pleasure of enjoying a liquid lunch at Nantucket's Brant Point Grill at the White Elephant Hotel. Only this was a few years ago before they added this beauty to the menu, so we had to eat our seafood and booze separately. (The local beers from Cisco Brewers are worth checking out, by the way.)
Now, we like lobster, and we love a Bloody Mary. So how can we not want to try the genius pairing of the two in the Brant Point Grill's Lobster Bloody?

Pack Your Critter Pants And Head to Nantucket for Midweek Deals

In addition to being a painfully cheesy punchline, Nantucket is also a great, but expensive, New England vacation spot. But if you can steal away for some last-minute mid-week beach time, you’ll score lower rates and not have to go to work. Where can we sign up?
One deal in particular grabbed our attention: the Jared Coffin House, which we admit stood out based on its morbid name. No worries, though, it’s named for a 19th-century man with an unfortunate name, not as a warning about wooden boxes as beds.
Anyways, the inn is an historic whaling captain’s mansion near Main Street offering rates that start at $250 July 20-21 and 26-29 (or, if you’re really spontaneous, you might be able to stay tonight for $165). Guests also get 15 percent off breakfast and lunch at White Elephant’s Brant Point Grill and at the inn’s own Harbor Wok for dinner and takeout.
Just make sure you clear your calendar before booking; the Jared Coffin House is rather finicky about their cancellation policy.
