The thing about staying at an inn is sooner or later you are going to bump into the innkeeper. Whether you are a social butterfly or an introvert, when you stay at a small bed and breakfast, or an inn, you need to be prepared for your "innkeeper interaction". Which is why we figured it would be a good idea for you to get to know who runs your inn of choice before you decide to check-in. Meet The Innkeeper is our new video feature where the innkeepers get to speak directly to you, oh so intimidating potential guest, and tell you what their particular inn has to offer.
Today we present to you Neil Porta, Managing Partner at the Black Point Inn on Prouts Neck Maine. Have specific questions for Neil, or us? Leave them in the comments section below.
Yesterday we let the innkeeper at Nantucket Whaler Guest House address you, today we will let this motion picture of Room #8 do the talking. Tomorrow, we intend to finally give you our take, with a stream of consciousness style review.

In a conversation with an FOHC, (Friend of HotelChatter), we listened to them gripe about their search for a Nantucket hotel to visit, just before Memorial Day.
In any case, they settled on the Jared Coffin House. She was able to get a room in Spring price range of $180, but was shocked to see their cancellation policy (shown above.)
Hotel cancellation policies vary from hotel to hotel. Some give you 24 hours, some give you 14 days. We just think the Coffin's policy is a little harsh, especially because they charge you $25 even if you cancel three weeks before your arrival date. Also, if you have to leave early, you have to pay the full amount of days booked. Then again, at least it's not the Ritz-Carlton.
And we're not saying you won't have a good stay here at the Coffin but just make sure you will actually be there when you say you will.
A while back we checked in on the Veranda House in Nantucket which we thought was a refreshing and modern twist on the island's B&B theme. Meaning, it didn't smell or look like Grandma's house.
But the only downside was that the hotel requested guests to sign a "No Food or Drink" policy once they checked-in which was not only odd but like totally oppressive. Just like Grandma's house.
Luckily we have some good news today. A rep from the Veranda House lets us know:
[A]s of April 2006 the hotel has been under new ownership. The no food policy has since been abandoned and the breakfasts have been revamped...bathrooms have been completely redesigned and rooms now have flat panel TV/DVD, wireless Internet and phones with voice mail.
So not only are you allowed to bring back Funions and Mountain Dew to your room, you can watch TV and contribute to your favorite internet forums all from the comfort of your bed. Now, what would Grandma think of that?
If you are like us you totally forgot the show existed, but when we showed up at the Century House and spotted a photo of Innkeeper Gerry with the cast of Wings, it all came together.
If you remember the show you will remember it took place on Nantucket, and of course us bringing this up is apropos of absolutely nothing.
The Century House is another Nantucket Inn located on "Inn Row", convenient to town and the beaches, yet far enough away to get a good nights sleep.
The Inn's location, personality, fresh fruit breakfast, and free WiFi, were enough for us, but as you know, these Nantucket B&B's are filled with stories.
