'The Parent Trap' Remake Filmed at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey

As we were recuperating from illness in bed on Friday night, we found ourselves watching (and Tivo-ing for later) the good, the bad and the incredibly cheesy movies from the past. (Coyote Ugly anyone?) And amidst this sadfest, we found ourselves watching The Parent Trap remake with Lindsay Lohan and the late Natasha Richardson who passed away last week after a tragic fall on the ski slopes in Montreal of Mont Tremblant in Quebec. Gotta love the Encore channel's timeliness touch.

Aside from watching Richardson, we were also captivated by the young Lohan. It's hard to believe with all her recent tabloid drama these days, that she was actually once a precocious little red-headed child. They do grow up fast.

But what also got our hotel geek radar going was a hotel pool scene which we instantly recognized as The Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey.

So, you want to go tasting in Santa Barbara’s wine country like Miles and Jack from Sideways, but have no idea where to stay? Try the little Hadsten House Hotel in Solvang, about 30 miles north of Santa Barbara. Sure, it’s not the fictional Windmill Inn, but then again, you won’t have a nervous breakdown there.

Pop the Cristal and Get a Free Room at Elite Hotels

We’re getting used to hotels pumping out discounts and throwing extra goodies our way to get us to stay with them this year, but giving a room away for free? That’s taking it one step further.

Chi-chi UK chain Elite Hotels, which owns four sprawling countryside mansions in the south east of England including Luton Hoo (where such luminary films as Four Weddings and a Funeral and Eyes Wide Shut were filmed) is doing just that.

You have to spend a wedge to get the free room, of course; £278.50 (about $413) on a bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal 2002, to be precise. But then, there are worse things to throw your money at. Especially if you go for Luton Hoo, where rooms cost £275 and up in the first place.

The offer runs through the whole of February, excluding Valentine’s night – but if you cough up for the 14th and promise to buy the Cristal too, they’ll throw in an extra night for free.

And just think – if your loved one thinks you splashed out on a room fit for Hugh Grant as well as some rap-tastic bubbly, just how many brownie points will you have? (Don’t worry, they didn’t film the Eyes Wide Shut orgy scene there.)

Shopaholics Summoned to NY's Roosevelt Hotel

You knew that some New York hotels would offer a package based on the new Confessions of a Shopaholic movie; it was only a matter of time. First out of the gates is midtown's Roosevelt Hotel with their "Shopaholics Anonymous" deal. For $453 per person until April 30, overspending, shoe-happy travelers get two nights at the Roosevelt, named the "Grand Dame of Madison Avenue," and a whole slew of consumer pleasures:

· Access to an exclusive ‘secret stash of designer showrooms’ unavailable to the public
· 40% VIP discount reserved for Roosevelt guests
· iSpend Application added to customers iPhone
· Certificate for a three-course lunch at a NYC classic restaurant
· Single chocolate martini at Madison Club Lounge
· “Denny and George” inspired scarf
· Cappuccino and pastry breakfast

Because of the price, the addition of those secret showrooms and the nod to the iPhone, we're thinking that this is a pretty unique deal for New York City. It's only when the Shopaholic movie debuts nationwide on February 13, however, that we'll get to see if the rest of the country is in the mood to ravage Fifth Avenue.
