Alright, we can probably quit it with the "yo momma" jokes (mostly because it is no longer 2002 and they are no longer the funny or cool thing), but as Mother's Day approaches — just a few days 'til Sunday the 10th, kiddies — we're gonna keep coming atchya with some last-minute Mother's Day deals.

This one comes from the super hip-n-trendy Standard Miami, whose spa is tres excellent — but the rest of the hotel may have a super-trendy vibe that some of the, er, more tea-and-crumpets-type mothers may not take a liking to (we know our own mothers may not be so down for Standard-ish environs).

Every now and then, we'll be profiling hotels for $100 or less. Yay! Know of any other bargains? Send 'em to us.

If you didn't know, The Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix is part of the Hilton family of Waldorf-Astoria Collection Hotels, so for this luxury property (and host to every president except Obama), to have rooms going for $80 a night is kind of insane. But it's for real.

As part of a Mother's Day celebration and the Biltmore's 80th anniversary, the hotel is offering rooms for $80 for 80 hours. The special rate is only bookable for 80 hours starting yesterday and ending Friday, May 1, 2009. The rate is also only available for the dates of Friday, May 8 to Monday, May 11, 2009.

When we plugged in the Mother's Day weekend rates we actually found rooms for the rate of $69. Crazy! However, the resort does charge a $28 resort fee, bringing your nightly total to $97 a night. That fee includes include high-speed Internet, access to the fitness center, local, 800 and credit card calls, and a newspaper. To book, go to the Biltmore's special offers page and enter code MOM in Group/Convention code field.

If your mom may be more into an adventurous getaway than a peaceful retreat (or you're not sure which one she may want) for Mother's Day, consider this one: take the lady to New York, and treat her to both adventurous excursion-type activities and indulgent de-stressing pampering sessions.

Try out New York's Carlton on Madison Avenue's Moms on Madison Package, which promises to keep yo momma occupied (and you occupied as well, should you choose to join her). It includes one night at the lovely Carlton — which boasts 42" flatscreens, Molton Brown toiletries and a nice location at 28th-ish and Madison — plus a Swedish massage, a classic facial and continental breakfast for two. Plus, the hotel offers free WiFi (yay!) and round the clock room service. And! Mom can bring the dog, so long as its 25 pounds or less.

The package starts at $500, and is valid through the month of May. Bonus: Macy's is within walking distance. Oh yes. Take her shopping.

Since we're old hats when it comes to Afternoon Tea service in Chicago hotels, new menus or packages to jazz up the offerings never fail to excite us. That's why the spring season is so awesome, as it promises all kinds of fun new tea flourishes and Mother's Day deals like the Four Seasons' "La-Tea-Spa" package.

Beginning on May 4 and lasting through Labor Day, the "La-Tea-Spa" combo melds two of our favorite things—proper tea service and a good massage—for a deal designed for two. Take your mother, your daughter, your significant other or just your best friend and reserve tea and a spa treatment and get the second tea and spa treatment at half-off. We'll let the Four Seasons break down the savings for you: "applicable treatments begin at $135 and tea is $32 per person, excluding tax and gratuity. With La-Tea-Spa, your second spa treatment could cost $67.50 and your second tea, just $16, excluding tax and gratuity."

As tea mavens, we do have one solid recommendation for those opting for this offer: take tea after your treatment. Post-rubdown or facial, there is nothing more luxurious than to continue to be waited on while sitting back in a plush chair and leisurely sipping tea. For reservations, call the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago at 312-280-8800.

Hang With Mom at a Hilton (Or Send Her Away Solo)

April 28, 2009 at 10:42 AM | by Jenna | 1 Comment

Hilton Sandestin

Mother's Day gifts typically can be grouped into three categories: gifts for mom, gifts for you and for the Lady of the House, or gifts for the whole fam. Any of these are acceptable, but some of us prefer to indulge ourselves while the ol' Mums is being pampered too (whatever, sometimes a girl needs an excuse, right?) while some of us prefer to send her off on her own to do her thang.

If you're in the latter group, Hilton Hotels have a variety of just-for-mom indulgence packages, designed with her (and only her) in mind: The Hilton Anatole in Dallas, for instance, offers Mother's Day spa packages for the brand new V Spa, which involve a whole day of pampering solo, including a mani-pedi, a footbath, a massage and an organic facial. At The Hilton Waikoloa Village in Hawaii, you can send her off to get spa services such as "signature Lomi Lomi and Healing Stone massages," let her blow off steam on the fitness equipment, and refresh her look at the salon.

Have an EPIC Cabana Party With Yo' Momma on Mother's Day

Site Where: 270 Biscayne Boulevard Way [map], Miami, FL, United States, 33131

Alright, Mother's Day is coming up very, very soon and you need to start getting your game up and figuring out what you're going to do for the Matriarch of your fam. Does your Lady of the House dig the whole chill-by-the-pool scene? Pamper her and make this Mother's Day an epic one (i.e. ensure you will be getting better gifts than the rest of your siblings — or earn yourself a Get Out of the Doghouse Free card) at EPIC Miami.

For $2,200, you get mom accommodations for three days and two nights at Kimpton's newest Miami property (which, by the way, has been getting fairly stellar reviews). During her stay, she gets a 90-minute massage at EXHALE spa, a two-day poolside cabana rental, and "a kids pool party for up to 10 children inclusive of all water toys and floats, lunch, beverages, custom made party cake" and some kind of surprise gift.

This is an ideal package for a hubby to give to his wife, and you can bring the kids along, too: the KimptonKids program keeps the tots busy so parents enjoy can enjoy themselves a little.

The EPIC Mother's Day Package can be booked for either this Mum's day or next year's — but you've gotta book by June 10, 2009 and stay by May 10, 2010. Use rate code UMD at the hotel's website.

Indulge With Mom at the Crescent Without Missing Pilates Class

Some mothers are all about indulgence. Some mothers are all about discipline. Whether your mother is one or the other shouldn't matter on Mothers Day — though for the latter, more disciplined group, sprinkling a bit of exercise into an ultra-indulgent Mom's Day weekend may help the lady who birthed you to stay happy.

The chic and charming Crescent Beverly Hills' "Mother’s Day Work-Out, Chill-Out" offer keeps you and yo' momma pampered — and neither one of you have to give up your pilates for the weekend, so your mother can't blame you for getting her bloated via cocktails or a too-big breakfast. The one-night package includes a room for two, afternoon cocktails, breakfast in your room or on the hotel's patio, a private Pilates Reformer Bed class for two and one massage or facial for each of you. The last two goodies are offered at nearby Allure Pilates Spa, where facials run $105 and semi-private pilates lessons run $86 for two people without the package.

The package can be yours (for you and mom, obvs) for $425 for the single night, and additional room nights can be added on without all the goodies for $175.

Indulge Mom (And Yourself) at The May Fair London's Spa

If your mom is as special as ours, we've got a suggestion for a way to spoil her on Mother's Day. Pop over to one of London's poshest hotels, the May Fair, and sign yourself and your mum up for a decadent Moroccan Steam Cleansing Ritual.

While at first you might think of steam cleansing as something you want to do to the carpet, once you hear what the May Fair's spa staff have in store for you, you'll think otherwise. After cleansing your skin with a crushed olive and eucalyptus oil mix, you head into a private steam chamber to apply a selection of products (including a scrub and mineral clay), chosen to match your individual needs: relaxing, healing or energizing, for example.

The nicest part about this spa treatment is that it's a whole lot cheaper if two of you do it. At £60 ($90) for one and £90 ($130) for two, this Mother's Day gift easily does triple-duty: a nice gift for mom, an opportunity for some quality mother-daughter bonding time — and a chance to sneak in some relaxing spa goodness of your own.

Did you know that this year is the 100th anniversary of Mother's Day? Did you even know that Mother's Day is less than two weeks away? Hmm... Well, someone's in a pickle, aren't they?

Lucky for you, The Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach is offering two Mother's Day appropriate packages which are valid through August 15th.

The first, the "Mom and Family Getaway," includes accommodations in two connecting rooms, a welcome gift for Mom and--just so she can be rid of the rug rats for a day--a day membership for two at AquaNuts, a Ritz Kids Club for children ages five to 12, as well as Coast, for 13- to 17-year-olds. Prices start at $489 per night.

If you're feeling really guilty for almost forgetting about Mom, shell out $1,129 per night for the "Pampering Mom Getaway," which includes ocean-front accommodations, 100 roses upon arrival, dinner for two in the hotel's restaurant, with a 100 wine credit and a 100-minute Elemis Aroma Spa Ocean Wrap spa treatment.

Now go book, and don't say we never do anything for you.

Bad Rate :: Hotel Indigo Chicago Downtown for Mother's Day

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 1244 North Dearborn Parkway [map], Chicago, IL, United States, 60610
April 29, 2008 at 3:30 PM | by Tim L. | 1 Comment

[Ed. Note: Welcome to our Good Rate/Bad Rate feature where we look at hotel prices in the same city and decide which one most deserves your hard-earned benjamins. Rates quoted here were captured on April 28, 2008 and are subject to change. Enjoy.]

We went looking at boutique hotels in Chicago to answer a question. How bad would the damage be if a husband wanted to take the mother of his children away for the weekend? We pulled up the nights of May 9 and 10 and came out better than expected, with nightly rates under $200 before taxes at Hotel Sax, Raffaello Hotel, Kimpton's Hotel Monaco, and W Chicago City Center.

So why is a standard at the sorta-hip 3.5-star corporate boutique chain Hotel Indigo nearly $600 (with taxes) for the entire weekend? (Not per night.) That's more than the Good Rate at Affinia Chicago, without the junior suite, the Asti Spumanti, and the edible chocolate body frosting.

They are offering an "Indigo Indulge" package pictured here, but to call it underwhelming would be too kind. For an extra $20 a night you get a dessert to split and some Starbucks coffee. Couldn't we just buy that ourselves for, oh I don't know, $20?!

Take Mom To Ottawa for the Tulip Festival

Where: Ottawa, Canada
April 25, 2008 at 2:00 PM | by mytwocents | 0 Comments

We've been neglecting Canada lately and we apologize for that. So if you need a reason to visit our neighbors to the North and you just happen to be a member of your local garden club, hit up Ottawa in May for the Canadian Tulip Festival.

Each spring 600,000 people from North America, Europe and Asia travel to see the exotic mosaic these tulips create in the city's parks and open spaces. It's actually a perfect trip for Mom's Day.

The tulip festival runs May 2-19, and about 40 hotels in Ottawa and Gatineau have created a special festival package for visitors. The package includes accommodations, a voucher to receive International Friendship Passports, Tulip pins and entrance to some of Ottawa's other cultural attractions.

One of the participating hotels is the landmark Fairmont Chateau Laurier but there was no availability for the opening days of the festival. There was however room at the Hotel Indigo Ottawa for $139 a night which surprised us because we didn't know they had Hotel Indigos in Canada!

You can purchase festival packages at Ottawa Tourism. Hotel prices vary, with rates starting at $85 per night for double occupancy. The booking page is a little fussy, there's a lot of details to fill out and if you forget to select how many adults will be in the room, a pop-up message won't let you go any further.

The best way to do it is just select the dates you wanna go, select the Tulip Package and see what hotels show up.
