Sleep here for the Unconference
We’ve been talking for a while, now, about how sexy rooms don’t maketh the hotel anymore; it’s all about experiences. And not just ones that cost a wad of money; things that make you culturally richer, instead.
Morgans is the latest to jump on the bandwagon, partnering with
computer programming school technology, business and design educational institution General Assembly. Shrug your shoulders as well you might, but this partnership will provide “groundbreaking programming and educational content to Morgans guests and employees”.
It seems like just Friday we were telling you Dubai will be getting more niche lifestyle hotels, in a very big way. Oh, that's because it was just Friday.
Please scroll to the bottom for new updates and statements regarding this case.
We went through a series of updates last week after we initially reported the new owners of the Mondrian Soho were trying to kick out operators Morgans Hotel Group (in the middle of the night, no less) and rebrand the property as the NoMo Soho Hotel.
By the end of the day, a court had ruled Morgans should remain the operator, but the hotel's owner, Alex Sapir, isn't giving up. Like, at all. Here's what the statement he put out about the struggle to get the NoMo up and running:
New York is always at the front of the line get all kinds of stuff, but their latest first might just be the best yet. It’s a pop up mini golf course at The Hudson Hotel, and we want to go to there right now.
They’re calling it Putt Putt Park, and it opened up for the season just last week. Visitors—and golfers—can expect a nine-hole course in partnership with the folks over at Recess New York, and it’s all outside within the hotel’s courtyard. From what we’ve seen they’ve gone all in with this creation, so of course there’s a windmill and a loop-de-loop to ensure golfers are up for the challenge.

It's been a while since we checked in on Morgans Hotel Group's exclusive Global Club Card. Indeed, we didn't even think they issued this invite-only membership card anymore. But a tipster tells us they have and this is what it looks like.
Gone is the fancy artwork of years past and in its place is a very simple, understated card.
Back in 2010, the Global Club Card got you perks such as a complimentary night at new Morgans hotels within six months of opening, a dedicated concierge, room upgrades and "guaranteed entrance" for the guest and up to two friends at all Morgans Hotel Group bars.
Four years on, the benefits have been upped a bit to include more discounts, free WiFi and even "direct access to the CEO". Keep reading below for the full list of benefits. (And you can skip over to Loyalty Traveler to see the full envelope presentation.)
Sorry, we're still not sure how you can get invited for this card. You have to be a sort of select "tastemaker" or you have to spend a lot of nights at a Morgans Hotel.

Six pictures of six London hotels. Which one is the odd one out? Your time starts…. now.
Unlike New York, the list of rooftop bars in London isn’t that long, and even fewer can boast floor-to-ceiling windows with river views and outdoor space for al-fresco lounging and drinking, but Rumpus Room has both.
That includes a Delano for the seaside resort of Cesme (you may remember Four Seasons heading there too), and two hotels for Istanbul: another Mondrian and a property called 10 Karaköy, part of the group’s “Originals” collection, which is opening already on November 15.
Taking its name from the district it calls home, the hotel will have 71 rooms and suites inside its historic neoclassical building, ranging from Standard Queen (a rendering above) to Loft Terrace Suites and a Penthouse.

We said on Monday that September was making its last two days count in London, and it did: following the opening of The Beaumont in tony Mayfair, we finally had a chance to see inside Mondrian at Sea Containers last night.
The references to the building’s history are everywhere: from the copper hull that cuts from the entrance past reception to the riverside restaurant in a sweeping curve to the actual containerships displayed in the lounge above.

The week that Mondrian at Sea Containers will make its official London debut (in fact, opening is today, so stay tuned for the lowdown on that), some interesting news has come out on what was to be its sibling, Hudson London, on Great Scotland Yard, not even fifteen minutes’ walk across the river.
Earlier this year, following a lot of drama at Morgans Hotel Group, the Hudson listing disappeared from the group’s website, replaced with silence about the fate of the former Scotland Yard headquarters. The Telegraph reports that British chain (though now US-owned) Malmaison is set to purchase the building for around £200 million.

We don't call it Miami Hotel Mambo for nothing.
Today, we discovered that the beachfront party spot that is The Shore Club will move into a condotel operation. Yup, the dreaded condotels, once all the rage in the pre-recession era, are back. GROAN.
The Real Deal reports that the hotel's new owners, HFZ Capital Group, who acquired the property late last year, are splitting the hotel into 85 luxury residences and 100 hotel rooms. Currently, the historic hotel has 309 hotel rooms.
Word is the residences will start to go up for sale in early December, just when all the moneyed art collectors arrive in town for Art Basel. However, if you're keen to reserve a spot, limited reservations will open next month.
What's crazier than someone attempting the condotel operation again is the fact that neither HFZ Capital nor their sales agents, Douglas Elliman, have released any info on how these luxury residences are to come about. There are no renderings, no construction plans, no nada. But whenever this "transformation" happens, just know that the Shore Club will never again be the same. Fingers crossed, the condotel thing works out for them.

Morgans Hotels are rather infamous for their gift shop offerings such as the kinky vending machine at the Mondrian South Beach called "Automat" which once sold (or maybe still does) 24-karat gold handcuffs from Kiki de Montparnasse. The automat also sold rentals for premium luxury cars like a Rolls Royce or a Benz.
When the machine made its debut at the Hudson Hotel in New York, it sold an $8,000 photo shoot with photographer Ben Watkins and a rental of a red Ferrari 599 GTB.
However, the gift shop offerings at the Essence shop at the new Delano Las Vegas aren't quite that risqué, although they are still rather expensive. You can get a small discount on the items if you're a member of the M Life rewards program but for the most part, be prepared to spend.
Here's what we found while admiring the wares at Essence the other week.
