For all those who just. can. not. wait for the reopening of the The Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino, along with its "Master Magician", "hottest night spots" and casino, MGM announced they would begin a staggered hotel reopening after the fire on Jan 25th caused extensive damage to the façade and forced the hotel & casino to close until further notice.

Starting on Friday, February 15th, 1,200 rooms will be available for guests, by February 22nd, another 1,300 rooms will be available, and the remaining 500 rooms on the upper floors which were damaged in the fire will be undergoing a much more comprehensive renovation.

In addition to the hotel and casino, Lance Burton's show will re-open again on February 15th, as will most of the resorts retail stores, spa, and convention center.

Unfortunately, those who are hoping to spend a late Valentines Day dinner at the Monte Carlo Brew Pub or Buffet will have to wait - those venues will only open if there is demand for them, but no later than February 22nd.

But thank goodness the Monte Carlo is finally reopening! There was such a glut of glitzy, over the top, ridiculousness in Las Vegas since the fire shut it down.

Oh wait..

Cancel that.

After Friday's frightening fire at the Monte Carlo Las Vegas, it will be a while before the place gets back to business as usual.

There's absolutely no information about the fire or updates on the hotel website but as of right now the hotel is unopened to the public, a tough blow for a casino.

Gordon Absher, a public affairs official for the MGM Mirage company, told the LVRJ that there is no determined re-opening date yet. Currently, workers are at the hotel to begin repairing ceilings and rooms that sustained heavy water or smoke damage which are mostly those on the 27-32nd floors.

As for the hotel guests, those that were there over the weekend were let in on late Friday to retrieve their belongings.

Absher said guests from fewer than 100 rooms had yet to reclaim their belongings by Sunday afternoon. Starting today, the Monte Carlo will confirm addresses and begin shipping all remaining unclaimed personal belongings of guests to their homes.

As for guests with future reservations they will be rebooked at other MGM properties like Treasure Island and Mandalay Bay. There's still no estimate of the fire damage or even what could have caused it.

A full on three alarm fire is currently blazing atop the Monte Carlo Las Vegas. Those on the scene are reporting dark plumes of smoke and fire crews are already on the roof.

The fire began on the roof around 11 AM local time Friday and has progressed swiftly, engulfing the resorts top four floors. The building is being evacuated according to hotel spokesman Gordon Absher of MGM Mirage Inc, which jointly owns the property with Circus Circus.

Huge crowds have gathered on the strip to watch the fire, and traffic is gridlocked. No word yet on what started the fire, but usually hotel roof fires are caused by the large HVAC units atop these buildings, however, at this point that is speculation.
