Montage Laguna Beach Loves Its Wine

Most people come to the ritzy Montage Laguna Beach to take advantage of its incomparable location along the stunning SoCal coast. During a recent visit, though, we actually came to experience the resort’s comprehensive wine program. Not only does it have 7 sommeliers on staff among its three restaurants managing a list of over 45,000 bottles of 2,100 wines, but it also holds a weekly wine-tasting for guests and locals called the Artistry of Wine series.

Apparently, Oprah Has a Thing For The Montage Beverly Hills

It was during a routine Twitter browsing session that we came across an excited fan's 88-character message about spotting the big "O" at none other than the Montage Beverly Hills. Now, this hotel has been known as a haven for celebrities for some time now—Mariah and Nick threw their baby shower there, for crissakes. The swanky hotel also accommodated a newly-homeless Maria Shriver when she needed a place to stay.
It was yesterday afternoon when @ttcrebekah's Oprah sighting took place—in the gift store, no less. We'd imagine, after the crazy giveaways her old show was known for, she's probably got the extra cash to pick up a few "nice things" for the house.

Game On! Inside Daly’s Pub & Rec at Montage Deer Valley
We reported on the opening of the deluxe Montage Deer Valley in Park City back in December, and since then we’ve told you why it’s on of the best ski-in ski-out hotels in the country, but we actually paid the mountaintop retreat a summer visit to try out activities like mountain biking, hiking, archery on the Grand Lawn, and chillaxing at the sprawling spa. However, thanks to a veritable cornucopia of bar games and a hearty menu of American classics, one of our favorite features at the hotel had to be its gastropub, Daly’s Pub & Rec.

Maria Shriver Seeks Refuge in the Arms of The Montage

Where there is a scandalous celebrity couple breakup, there is a luxury hotel in Los Angeles awaiting the broken-hearted with open arms and giant suites. The latest hotel to be there for that A-list someone is The Montage Beverly Hills where Maria Shriver is reportedly living while she works on divorcing the Sperminator, er, Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger.
TMZ has the scoop saying that Maria even met with her divorce attorney at the hotel.
With rumors going around that Maria is expected get at least a $200 million divorce settlement, there's no excuse for her not to book one of the hotel's 55 residential-style luxury suites.

Not Even The 'Last Cake Standing' is Free of a Hotel Connection
Reality shows are addicted to hotels like Charlie Sheen is addicted to goddesses. There's hardly ever a new show that pops up without its subjects doing something a hotel. From Top Chef to Real Housewives, The Bachelor and Celebrity Apprentice, hotels practically have a guaranteed cameo in every new reality show that airs. And the Food Network's Last Cake Standing is no exception.
The reality-TV competition pits eight pastry chefs against one another in an elimination-style tournament and the Montage Beverly Hills' executive pastry chef, Richard Ruskell, is one of the contestants. But he has a good chance of winning as he's received the Lifetime Achievement Medal from the Oklahoma Sugar Arts Show (how do we get tickets to that?) and was named one of the "Top Ten Pastry Chefs in America" by Chocolatier magazine.

Ski Bunnies, Pack Your Mink Booties Because The Montage Deer Valley Opens Today

Lookie here! A hotel that opened earlier than expected!
Christmas came early for those of you looking to getaway to Park City as the Montage Deer Valley opens today. Previously, the hotel was expected to open on December 15..
Rates are still very high at $695 a night for this weekend but we've noticed this rate is a special Montage Memories rate which aside from a room includes breakfast daily for two (a $50 credit) and nightly valet parking. Not keen on making Montage Memories? You can opt for the regular rate of $675 a night but that would be foolish as the Memories rate is a better deal.
And yes, the hotel is still sold-out for Sundance.

The Montage Deer Valley to Open on December 15 at $675 a Night

Well it's a Montage Hotel, did you really expect lower room rates?
The Montage Deer Valley has stayed true to its December 2010 opening date and in hitting up the hotel's website today we see that the luxury ski resort in Park City will open on December 15 with rooms starting at $675 a night for a Resort king or two queens.
Prices go up from there but only the view changes as all of the standard rooms start at a generous 600sq.ft. with separate sitting areas, gas fireplaces, deep soaking tubs in the bath and heated floors. A Vista room gives you views of the resort grounds and mountains for $755 a night while the Peak rooms give you panoramic views of the ski slope or valleys for $835 a night.
But once you enter the suite category, that's when the rooms jump to a whopping 1,050-1,200sq.ft. with living and dining areas, fireplaces and 1.75 baths. Those start at $995 a night on December 15.

Spoiled Ski Bunnies Will Have to Wait Until 2010 for Montage Deer Valley

One of our favorite vacations ever was the "Saints & Sinners" tour of 2006 when we drove from Central Cali to Las Vegas for two nights of indulgence and debauchery. From there, we drove to its polar opposite destination, Southern Utah, and went off the grid, car-camping for a week. Thankfully, we packed enough vino to overcome Utah’s wackadoodle liquor laws.
In a stroke of genius, the fine state of Utah relaxed ‘em slightly this summer, banning the state’s stupid private member club only system after a 40-year run of complete and utter absurdity.
LDS and liquor laws aside, there are few places in the country as naturally stunning as Utah. So, we soaked up every second of leaf-changing beauty when we were in Park City last weekend. We checked out the hotel scene of course, but we thought it was important to let you know this first: construction is moving along a-okay at the Montage Deer Valley and all signs say "yes" for its December opening. As in December 2010.

Montage Beverly Hills Is On Britney's Radar
As Britney Spears gears up for her upcoming tour, which kicks off this March in New Orleans, the back-on-her-feet pop princess seems to be doing a bit less of the Frapuccino-guzzling, flipping-off-paps stuff and has been engaging in more... grown up, big-girl things.
She's been laying low lately to get into fighting shape before she hits the road, and according to PopSugar, she took a bit of time to hit up the brand new Montage Beverly Hills with her mom. From PopSugar's pics, it looks like she and her mom were in the hotel's tea room (Also: If we swap our Frapuccinos for tea, will we get abs like Britney's new ones?)
Perhaps the ladies were discussing what's up next for Brit-Brit's hairdo maybe the two were getting ready to pay a little visit to Brit's hairstylist, Kim Vo, who has a salon in the hotel.

Montage Beverly Hills Has The Clearest View of Los Angeles

Guess the Hotel Revealed! It is indeed the Montage Beverly Hills hotel which we toured from top to bottom on Wednesday. And we have to say, there's a lot going on at this hotel.
It all begins when you pull up to the hotel's entrance and if you can take your eyes from the house Maybach out front, you will notice that the snazzily-dressed bellmen are wearing white gloves and top hats as they help you out of your car.
Continue on into the the lobby which is surprisingly small and intimate. Only check-in and concierge requests are handled here.
While the services go all out, the hotel's layout is more covert. The Montage was designed with a Spanish revival flair to mimic the grand old Mediterranean-styled estates of Beverly Hills. No room here is massive or imposing aside from the restaurant and the ballroom. And the hotel's layout is not some predictable big box either. In fact, walking around this hotel is like being in a maze and at every corner you turn into something new.

First Look at The Montage Beverly Hills
Update: Eater LA has pics of the resty, Parq.
We had an operative passing through Beverly Hills the other day who peeked into the just-opened Montage Beverly Hills and took these snapshots for us. While we don't have any room photos just yet, we were surprised to see that the staff has such...um...traditional hotel uniforms.
Our spy was also surprised by how the hotel was a bit of a let-down.
The décor falls short, and--dare I say--kind of feels Disney at some points. It's definitely a bit more upscale KB home than it is "Spanish Colonial." I don't get Spanish at all from the feel. The hallways are a bit barren. Not the same delightful California impressionism that you'd see at their Laguna property... I am just unimpressed. but second impressions can be better.
Hmmm...we have to get on over to the Montage and check it out for ourselves. More photos are after the jump.
If you've been by the Montage recently, let us know what you thought.
