Missoni Hotel Gets Even More Scottish With New Restaurant
It's been almost two months since the Missoni Hotel Edinburgh debuted to the public as the first Missoni Hotel in the world, and it looks like we've still got another two months to go before it grand-opens with another restaurant.
Although there is already the Missoni Bar and Missoni Cucina, it's been announced that Roy Brett, chef-director of the Dakota Hotel Group, will get his own restaurant on the street-level of the hotel. It's to be called Ondine after a mythical sea nymph, and will focus on seafood. Brett himself describes the restaurant's concept: "Set against the backdrop of Edinburgh’s historic old town, Ondine will bring together my passion for fish, shellfish and local produce, which will offer locals and visitors something quite different."
So it sounds like, despite Missoni's Italian brand and international design flair, that Hotel Missonis are open to incorporating local businesses and tastes. This will be a Scottish restaurant after all; something we could have never imagined paired in the same paragraph as the words "Missoni Hotel." Now, when the restaurant opens in September, do you think they'll make Missoni patterns in our bowl of cullen skink?

Hotel Missoni is Headed to Brazil
Good lord. It appears Hotel Missoni is expanding with an Aloft-like zeal, with the announcement of their fifth hotel now in Brazil.
Rezidor released a statement trumpeting the debut of the (well, the plans for) Hotel Missoni Ilha de Cajaíba, Brazil, which will be added to the group of Missonis currently open in Edinburgh, and on the way to Kuwait, Cape Town and Oman over the next few years.
The property will be a component "of a luxurious, eco-friendly resort development on the island of Cajaíba, within the Bahia de Todos os Santos (All Saints’ Bay)." It will be 40 km from the airport on this island, you can expect plenty o' palm trees, "mangroves and idyllic beaches, a signature golf course, five other luxury hotels, a conference center, a sports center, a marina, spas, shopping, a yacht club, and a heliport, all of which Missoni guests will have access to.
The Hotel Missoni will have 118 rooms, 48 suites, two restaurants and 32 Missoni villas with golf and sea-views. Expected opening date: early 2012.

Is Missoni Adding Manchester To Their List of Upcoming Hotels?
We're now two weeks into the opening of the first of the Missoni Hotels in Edinburgh, Scotland, and already more news of future destinations have swamped us with surprise.
There's big plans in the works for this new fashion line of hotels; the Missoni Kuwait Hotel comes in early fall, followed by more hotels in South Africa and Oman, of all places. The latter will be a beachfront resort even!

Oman, Not Italy, Will Get a New Missoni Hotel
Where: Oman

It looks like the opening of the Missoni Hotel Edinburgh was a success because the fashion hotel collection has announced yet another new locations for its hotels: Oman. Earlier this week, Missoni said it would open in South Africa next and now that news been quickly followed up with a 250-room beachfront resort in Oman, The Hotel Missoni Jebel Sifah.
Hotel Missoni Jebel Sifah will be part of a luxury resort community located between the blue waters of the Arabian Gulf and Oman's breath-taking mountains, approximately 18 miles from the capital, Muscat. Hotel Missoni Jebel Sifah's 250 guestrooms will be complimented by 50 apartments and villas, as well as a private beach, two restaurants, an 11,000-square-foot spa, two tennis courts, meeting rooms and a 4,300-square-foot ballroom. The community will also feature a three-mile beach, marinas, an 18-hole golf course and boutique shopping.

Hotel Missoni Goes For South Africa Next
Hotel Missoni wastes no time. On the crest of the wave of hype surrounding the very first Missoni Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland (it opened yesterday!), Rezidor Hotels has just announced that Missoni will bring its mutilcolored, dreamy lodging designs to Cape Town, South Africa in 2010.
Hotel Missoni Edinburgh opened its doors amidst a technicolored flurry of publicity, and as we wait on Missoni's second lodging outpost to open its doors next in Kuwait this fall followed by an Oman location later on, we've apparently got a fourth location to look forward to. The 157-room Hotel Missoni Cape Town will be, supposedly, opening "just in time" for the FIFA World Cup in 2010 "in the heart" of Cape Town complete with a Missoni Cucina restaurant, a bar, a spa and a rooftop terrace "with a cantilevered swimming pool and views of Table Mountain."
No word on when the Missoni brand is planning on crossing over into the ol' US of A, but we're going to go ahead and assume it won't be for a good long while if Rezidor's got its eyes fixed on spots like Edinburgh, Kuwait and Cape Town but we'll keep you posted; you can always somehow procure yourself one of those fly kilty-apron things and wear it around your house to achieve a similar effect.

Hotel Missoni Opens Today, But Why In Edinburgh?
Finally, we get another picture (the restaurant) from the interior of the Hotel Missoni which opened today in Edinburgh, Scotland. You'd think that during their recent visit to the property, the Guardian UK would have taken a few more shots, but instead they focused their energies on asking Missoni matriarch Rosita her reasons for choosing Edinburgh for the first hotel of her brand. Her response, after citing comfort over pretentiousness, is even-handed:
I admit that in the rain, Scotland can seem cold and dark and terrible, but in the sun you see its true beauty. I first came here 30 years ago for the festival, and went walking, out through the highlands, and I remember the heather and land - the colours were magnificent. Edinburgh is severe but very stylish and I tried to reflect that in the designs.
It probably also worked out in favor of the city that it's not already crowded with boutique or fashion hotels like in Milan; the Missoni Hotel will become the spot. That is, if brunching Scots can handle those blue walls and bright patterns pictured above after a night out on the town.

Hotel Missoni Edinburgh Now Open to Missonis; Opens to Public Next Week
Where can we score a Missoni kilt for ourselves? Oh yes, perhaps at the almost-open Hotel Missoni Edinburgh! This first entry into what will be a series of Missoni HotelsKuwait's coming in fallis prepping their Italian espresso machines and straightening out the creases in the striped bedsheets with only a few days until their June 8 opening to guests.
This past weekend however, the Missoni family themselves stopped in to survey how their fashion brand has translated into a physical hotel property. As you can see in the picture above, Scottish hospitality showed in spades as the family was welcomed by Missoni kilt-wearing waiters from the Cucina Missoni restaurant as well as a traditional bagpipe player.
Rooms for this month are looking quite within range as well$283 for a regular room, or $386 for deluxe room with breakfast. If you aren't anywhere near Scotland this summer, you can bet that all the big glossy interior design publications will be flashbulbing the heck out of the hotel later this month. After all, it's Missoni from top to bottom and that means reconciling crazy patterns and colors with the desire to create the restful environment of a hotel.

Get Psyched for the Debut of Missoni Hotels in June...in Scotland
Search the back of your closet for that Missoni piece you totally splurged on at a sale last year, because the first Missoni Hotels property is on the brink of throwing open its brightly-patterned doors in Edinburgh, Scotland.
It'll be all the colors and patterns your weary tourist eyes can handle in June, when the hotel opens and we finally get to see more than renderings of what looks to be a vibrant Italian fashion fantasyland plopped into Scotland.
The opening itself will be quite an imported spectacle, with Rosita Missoni herself cutting the ribbon to the 136-room property on the Scottish capital's historic Royal Mile. Not to mention that some of the furnishings are from her own home, and a majority of the rest are previews of the latest Missoni home lines, debuting at the hotel first.
So what's the nightly damage to your credit card for a room alone? A reasonable $268, considering that includes WiFi, laundering of 2 items of clothing, premium movies and a newspaper in the world's newest fashion hotel. Add another $22 if you'd like a Missoni breakfast delivered to your Missoni linen-otfitted bed. Here's hoping that even the room service features Missoni-branded toast and pats of butter.

Hotel Missoni Kuwait: All the Colorful Details
The Missoni Hotels are coming! The Italian fashion brand famous for its loud, brightly-colored prints, Missoni, is getting set to debut its first two hotels one in Edinburgh, Scotland this Spring, followed by a Kuwait City property set to debut in August or September.
While the Edinburgh property is going to be done mostly in blacks, whites and silvers, expect the hotel in Kuwait to feature the bright, crazy hues you have come to associate with the brand (lots of gold, turquoise and beige, specifically) across the 106 rooms and 63 suites.

Snooping Around Hotel Missoni's New Website
[Update: The first Missoni Hotel will open in Edinburgh, then Kuwait and never in Dubai. We've changed the story below to reflect that.]
They may have picked the oddest cities for debuting their high-fashion concept properties, but Missoni Hotels is gung-ho to get guests in between their brightly-patterned sheets by the end of this spring.
The first in the line of hotels from Italian fashion brand Missoni will open in Edinburgh, Scotland (of all places) in May 2009. Apparently they think the Scots need a healthy dose of Italian sun and frivolous color.

Times UK Lists Their Hottest Hotels for 2009
As this last week of 2008 is prime time for best-of lists, The Times of London has released a list of twelve hotels which tip their scales in terms of hotness. Looking ahead to 2009, the list of newcomers includes everything from the Juvet Landscape Hotel in the backwoods of Norway to the Missoni Hotel of Edinburgh and the Dubai Armani Hotel, set to occupy the first 37 floors of the Burj Tower.
Considering the diversity of their choices, hotel openings in 2009 are guaranteed to be a hoot. We mean, who doesn't want to check out the Sassi di Matera Albergo Diffuso in Basilicata, Italy, with its 18 rooms with modern conveniences set inside natural prehistoric caves? Or how about the next venture from the man behind London's famed Conran Shop? Terence Conran is planning to open Boundary, a restaurant with a few rooms in Shoreditch.
Scanning through the various delights to come in 2009, we are most enthralled by the Le Gray, coming to Lebanon's capital city Beirut. From the man behind One Aldwych in London and Carlisle Bay in Antigua, the new 80-room Middle Eastern hotspot will grace the city's scene with a rooftop pool and minimalist furnishings. The Times then drops the bomb on future plans for development: "If Lebanon seems an odd location, the next is even odder: the Falkland Islands." It's another perfect reason for us to head to the middle of nowhere.
If you're planning a blow-out luxury trip for late in 2009, reading this article will help you book the newest and most-hyped hotels around the world. But if you're like the rest of us who simply daydream about the ability to do as much, you can at least add a few of these hotels to your list of places to sleep before you die.

Hotel News Briefs :: Beware The "Batty" Receptionist
There's tons of hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.
· Bat in Hotel Receptionist's Bra: The summer of hotel animals still going strong. A receptionist at a Holiday Inn in Norwich on England's east coast found a baby bat in her bra. A hangover is likely to blame:
I did not notice anything as I put my bra on. The night before I had had one or two drinks and I was getting ready quickly. When I was driving to work I felt a slight vibration but I thought it was just my mobile phone in my jacket pocket." [Herald Sun]
· Google Hometown Hotel Denied For Now: Talks to put a four-star hotel in Mountain View, Calif. have stalled between the city and Google, who wants to also add a new office park. However, the city is determined to build a luxe hotel for tech magnets to enjoy. [San Jose Mercury News]
· Savings on Hotels This Summer: Some ways to cost-save this summer when staying at hotels include avoiding the hotel's restaurant, the minibar and the phone and watching for extra charges on the bill. [Telegraph]
· Missoni Hotels to Open in 2009: Missoni Hotels are still on track to open in early 2009 in Edinburgh and Kuwait City. Both locations will have a Cucina Missoni restaurant but in Edinburgh the 136-room hotel will also have a Bar Missoni and a fitness suite. In Kuwait City, the hotel will have 200 rooms, a Six Senses Spa and will be located in the Symphony Complex, a shopping center on the waterfront of the Arabian Gulf. [Rezidor Hotel Group]
