There's tons of hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.

· Bat in Hotel Receptionist's Bra: The summer of hotel animals still going strong. A receptionist at a Holiday Inn in Norwich on England's east coast found a baby bat in her bra. A hangover is likely to blame:

I did not notice anything as I put my bra on. The night before I had had one or two drinks and I was getting ready quickly. When I was driving to work I felt a slight vibration but I thought it was just my mobile phone in my jacket pocket." [Herald Sun]

· Google Hometown Hotel Denied For Now: Talks to put a four-star hotel in Mountain View, Calif. have stalled between the city and Google, who wants to also add a new office park. However, the city is determined to build a luxe hotel for tech magnets to enjoy. [San Jose Mercury News]

· Savings on Hotels This Summer: Some ways to cost-save this summer when staying at hotels include avoiding the hotel's restaurant, the minibar and the phone and watching for extra charges on the bill. [Telegraph]

· Missoni Hotels to Open in 2009: Missoni Hotels are still on track to open in early 2009 in Edinburgh and Kuwait City. Both locations will have a Cucina Missoni restaurant but in Edinburgh the 136-room hotel will also have a Bar Missoni and a fitness suite. In Kuwait City, the hotel will have 200 rooms, a Six Senses Spa and will be located in the Symphony Complex, a shopping center on the waterfront of the Arabian Gulf. [Rezidor Hotel Group]

Missoni Fashion Hotels To Open in 2009

What ever happened to those plans for the Missoni Hotels, a chain of design hotels from the Italian fashion house Missoni? Supposedly, the fashion hotel chain was to have 30 hotels open by 2010 and considering we're halfway through 2008 and there's nothing open yet, that might be a problem.

Yet it seems plans are still on for the Missoni Hotel Edinburgh, which will open next year. The hotel and others will be run by the Rezidor Group which also handles the Radisson SAS brand in Europe. My Fashion Life blog writes:

The hotels will reflect contemporary Italian life and style as well as having the Missoni stamp all over them. Features include a Missoni-themed restaurant , a Missoni coffee bar, a Missoni lounge and a Missoni spa (not to mention a fitness centre and swimming pool, too). And each one will be tailored to suit the area in which it is built.

The architect working on the first two hotels, Matteo Thun, has some images of what these Missoni Hotels will look like and it's pretty funky. The Rezidor lists the Missoni competitors as W Hotels, Morgans Hotel Group and the UK's Malmaison chain. But don't expect Missoni anywhere stateside soon. The hotel's initial push will be in Europe and the Middle East.

Indeed the Hotel Missoni Kuwait already has its own Wikipedia page. The hotel will open there in the city's shopping and entertainment district of Salmiya. All of the Missoni-branded services will be included.

What we're most excited for? Sleeping on Missoni bedding. Now that's luxury.

Another Fashion Hotel

Like fellow clothing lines Armani and Versace, the Italian fashion house Missoni is getting into the hotel business. The first ever Hotel Missoni will open in Edinburgh, Scotland in the city's Royal Mile section.

Hotel Missoni Edinburgh will offer 130 elegant bedrooms, a Bar Missoni, Missoni Cucina restaurant, a spa and fitness centre and typically "graceful" Italian styled boardrooms.

Thirty more Missoni Hotels will be opened by 2010 in cities like London, Barcelona and Paris. Right now, plans are being discussed to build more in Dubai and Kuwait.

Expect the hotel to be finished sometime in 2008.

We just wonder why isn't the first Missoni hotel first opening up in Milan? Or even Rome? What about New York? Not to bag on Edinburgh, but it is not known for its high-fashion culture.
