Miami Hotels Opening Report: The Regent South Beach

The Miami South Beach hotel scene is blowing up and it's not all about Nicky O. This week we are taking a look at some of the planned hotels for Miami which includes hotels for which construction has begun and hotels which still remain a pipe dream. If you have any tips about South Beach hotels that you wanna share with us, send 'em down.

We've heard a lot about the Regent South Beach which is set to open on Nov.27. Namely, this is the place men can enjoy their mancations, and where each guest can have Art Basel Art Ambassadors squire them around the famous art festival.

But there's much more. Located on Ocean Drive, the hotel features 80 condo-tel suites and:

secluded rooftop gardens, roman hot tubs and heartstopping ocean views as well as a full European spa and trend-setting restaurant/ lounge. Enjoy the Regent Experience of five-star luxury service standards and twenty-four hour concierge, valet and room service.

And luxury does seem to be the name of the game here. The hotel also plans to offer its guests a chance to use the Regent Pocket Butler program. Those staying in one of the 27 penthouse units will receive these pocket butlers upon check-in that allow guests to connect immediately with their real-life personal butler, Mercedez Benz chauffers, concierges and guest services.

The pocket butlers look like a mini-cellphone, are about the size of a credit card, are small enough to place on a keychain and works from anywhere in South Florida.

Other high-class notes about the hotel, the Table 8 restaurant will be helmed by celebrity chef Govind Armstrong and hello, it's a Regent Hotel ("That speaks volumes" so says the web site.) Other Regent Hotels you may have heard of--The Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills. [Update: This is no longer a Regent property. It now belongs to the Four Seasons.]

Projected Opening Date: Nov. 27th.

What We Think:: Despite the fact that the hotel website is still pretty lame (no real photos, no place to book rooms) and that the hotel was set to open in October, we're going to take a chance on this one and say The Regent South Beach will open on time.

Miami Hotels Opening Report: The Mondrian Miami

The Miami South Beach hotel scene is blowing up and it's not all about Nicky O. This week we are taking a look at some of the planned hotels for Miami which includes hotels for which construction has begun and hotels which still remain a pipe dream. If you have any tips about South Beach hotels that you wanna share with us, send 'em down.

The Mondrian Miami is set to be the sister property to the Mondrian Hotels in Los Angeles and Scottsdale. The Morgans Hotel Group recently acquired an old apartment building on the west end of South Beach last month and has even been offering up its condo-tel units to VIPers although nothing has been constructed/renovated yet.

So far not much else has been planned for this place except this:

While the Mondrian is often described as a "sophisticated, modern, urban resort," its South Beach venture promises to keep within in the realm of cool, offering upscale amenities such as a spa, waterfront services and private boat slips.

There's also some discrepancy about how many storeys and how many units will be here. One article says 16 storeys, 342 units, another says 18 storeys, 186 units. We'll bet on the latter since the hotel is offering one and two-bedroom suites. Then again the Morgans Hotel Group says the former, so who knows until this place actually opens.

But you can probably count on an Asia de Cuba and a Skybar to anchor the hotel bar scene

Projected Opening Date: None given.

What We Think: Late 2008/Early 2009.

Miami Hotels Opening Report: W South Beach

The Miami South Beach hotel scene is blowing up and it's not all about Nicky O. This week we are taking a look at some of the planned hotels for Miami which includes hotels for which construction has begun and hotels which still remain a pipe dream. If you have any tips about South Beach hotels that you wanna share with us, send 'em down.

The W South Beach Hotel & Residences has been one of the most anticipated openings in South Beach, although maybe that's because we've been hearing about it for over a year now.

Located on 22nd and Collins Ave, the condo-tel will be 19-stories tall, with 511 units, all offering ocean views and with a ceiling height of 9ft.

All the standard W Hotel services will be involved but some new things will show up here too. Like private beach access, a secret garden with fountains and pool showers, interior decorators should you choose to own a residence and private pool cabanas with flat screen TVs.

Supposedly added to the mix are NYC's CAIN nightclub and not one, but two restaurants from Mr. Chow.

What we're most excited for? The oil-up tanning station in the hotel's Beach Club where:

Tanning oil is sprayed directly on your body with no mess

So dudes, you will no longer have to ask endure the embarassment of asking your buddies to oil you up.

Projected Opening Date: Late 2007.

What We Think: Last we heard, demolition of the old Holiday Inn was set for later this year. And considering the ambitious resort/residences plan, we say sometime in 2008 is  a better date.

Miami Hotels Opening Report: Gansevoort South

October 30, 2006 at 9:05 AM | by | Comments (3)

The Miami South Beach hotel scene is blowing up and it's not all about Nicky O. This week we are taking a look at some of the planned hotels for Miami which includes hotels for which construction has begun and hotels which still remain a pipe dream. If you have any tips about South Beach hotels that you wanna share with us, send 'em down.

The plans for a Hotel Gansevoort South were announced way back when in November 2005 but so far, nothing but a bunch of renderings has materialized.

The hotel is set to be built within a luxury apartment building on Collins Avenue, called, Paradiso Miami. There will be 232 rooms, a teak roof deck and a tri-level beach club with "cabanas and fire pits at night."

When it finally opens (see projected dates below), the place will give bridge and tunnel crowd who visit the Gansevoort in NYC a place to stay in the winter. Although, we seriously hope this hotel has higher aspirations for itself.

Projected Hotel Opening Date:There has never been a clear opening date, but it was rumored to open late 2006/early 2007.

What we think: Late 2007/Early 2008.
