Roll Into DC on Your Hog For $99 Memorial Day Rates

One of the more surreal aspects of living in our nation’s capital can be the myriad meetings and conventions that are simultaneously occurring on any given day. You’re just walking down the street and, oh, look at that! Suddenly you’ve encountered a steady stream of gentlemen strutting around in their leather chaps, in town for — what else? — the National Convention of Leather Chaps Enthusiasts.
So that’s just a half made-up example, but you get the idea: Washington hosts all manners of conventions, and they tend to stay or congregate at the same hotels, often for discounted rates.
Memorial Day weekend being no different, this Sunday D.C. will host Rolling Thunder XXII, an annual motorcycle rally honoring American veterans. Angling to become a “Harley haven," the Washington Marriott Wardman Park is offering the “Roll into DC” package for just $99, free covered parking for your hog included. The deal is available for Friday and Saturday arrivals, as compared to normal rates that start at $119. Only a $20 discount, sure, but every little bit helps, no?
Book the deal using promotional code P51 (no proof of Harley necessary).

Do Memorial Day On the Cheap at Le Meridien San Fran
Le Meridien is on an image-sprucing spree these days, with wacky décor, hotel renovations, and new properties. Lucky for you, they're doing something else: dishing up some killer room discounts at the four-diamond San Francisco property over Memorial Day you know, in case you want another option for gettin' your Danny Tanner on.
Le Meridien San Francisco is offering the deal for Thursday-Sunday stays from May 22-June 7. Though the initial advertised rates for rooms started at $139, people have been snatching them up. Now we hear that you can still get a room May 22-23 for $159 per night, though that evens out a little bit with the $119 you'll pay to stay on May 24. The $139 rate still seems to be holding out on the other travel dates, and is over a 50% discount from the average rate of $325 you'd normally pay to here. Nice.
The hotel is close to the major must-sees downtown, like Union Square, the Ferry Building and the Embarcadero, so it makes for a good home base in the city by the bay.
To book the deal, reserve directly through the hotel's website.

The Chelsea AC Celebrates Memorial Day With New Nightlife Options
Okay, New Yorkers. You know you want to get out of the city for Memorial Day. Surely, if the weather's nice, the tourists are gonna be swarming every city block, Astoria Beer Garden is going to be packed and your normal daytime drinking spots are going to be tough to move around in. We know you probably don't want to hear this, but just flee to Jersey already. At least for the weekend.
How about this to entice you (and everyone else, not just NYC-ers): The new, chic Chelsea Atlantic City is gettin' ready for the summer season by launching new nightlife options on Memorial Day. Party people, meet the Cabana Club and C5.

Do It Up Tanner-Style in San Francisco For Memorial Day
If you're not so keen on doing a whole big family excursion full of face-painting, arts and crafts, cover bands and fireworks in the desert for Memorial Day, go for a Full House-style family time in the San Fran Bay Area you know, you can picnic in Alamo Square just like the Tanner family during the show's opening credits. Hopefully you've got a little Michelle-looking family member to set the pie on the picnic blanket.
Rates in the Bay Area are pretty decent for Memorial Day weekend (Memorial Day is Monday, the 25th), especially since Expedia has compiled a nice little list of hotels that are all 40-ish percent off for the holiday weekend. Some of your best, most centrally-located deals are going to be at the JDV boutiques in the area: Hotel Rex is going for $114 on Friday and Saturday, and $104 on Sunday night with the Expedia sale. Hotel Adagio is going for $113, while you can get Personality Hotels' Hotel Union Square for $137 each night from Friday through Sunday nights (and they have free WiFi, just in case you don't get Monday off).
If you really want to score a major deal, the primarily-for-biz-travelers Sofitel San Francisco Bay is going for only $80, but it's located in Redwood City, which is smack in the middle between San Fran and San Jose. You might spend that extra savings on transportation, though but that's a pretty posh property.

Round Up the Fam and Head to JW Marriott Starr Pass for Memorial Day
Memorial Day is only two Mondays away (May 25th), so it's hot time you start doing your research to figure out where you're going for the long weekend that is, if you happen to be so fortunate as to have the day off.
The always fam-friendly JW Marriott Starr Pass in Tucson is offering a special Memorial Day rate and lots of activities to keep everyone busy: on Saturday and Sunday, the resort is setting up arts and crafts or face painting and airbrush tattoos, a Hula Hoop Contest, a Watermelon-Eating Tournament, a Ping Pong Tournament, a Water Balloon Toss or Potato Sack Races, and, at night, a "Dive-In-Movie" at the pool.
On Sunday, the place will be decked out for a "tropical beach bash," complete with theme-y decor and drink specials, with a Summer Kick Off Beach Concert and carnival-ish games for the youngins and (yay!) fireworks at the end of the evening.
Guests departing on Memorial Day (Monday) get a 3 pm checkout, and rates start at $159 or you can opt for a room plus a $100-a-day resort credit starting at $239 per night. These rates are offered May 21 through May 25 only; use booking code PX3.
No kiddies? Um, we suggest you avoid the place on Memorial Day weekend come the weekend before or after; golfin' and spa-ing will keep everyone happy and relaxed without the threat of rogue screaming children.

Hotels.com's Memorial Day Sale is Kinda 'Meh'

Our sweet baby sibling VegasChatter got ahold of us (via the ol' friends and family plan) to let us know that they thought the Hotels.com Memorial Day Weekend sale that just kicked off today was kind of so-so for Las Vegas. Still, we were still enticed by the promise of "discounts of up to 50 percent off at more than 450 properties" and the additional incentive of scoring a $50 Prepaid MasterCard card if we booked a three-night stay at certain hotels, so we held onto some faith that maybe other non-Sin-City cities may prove a little more successful.
Well: nothing exciting to report in New York City (The Alex for $216 on the night of May 24th), but over in St. Louis we could snag the brand-new Moonrise Hotel for $159 (same as the opening rate) with the third night free (plus the $50 card). The Hotel Triton in San Fran is going for a "meh" $175 per night over Memorial Day weekend, but the Shangri-La Santa Monica turned up a pretty decent kickback at $214 per night for a two-night stay.
Check out the selection for yourself if you're planning a trip somewhere over Memorial Day Weekend. To book through the Hotels.com sale, you must book by May 25 for travel between May 21 and May 27. Also, the prepaid Mastercard is for guests who book three nights or more for travel through September 15. However, again, all travel must be booked by May 25 and that Mastercard doesn't get into your hands until four to six weeks after your stay.

Who's Brave Enough for the Memorial Day Chili Challenge In Waterville Valley?

Who needs the Hamptons or the Jersey Shore when you can partake in a chili challenge in New Hampshire?
The Waterville Valley Resort in New Hampshire is totally ready for summer. On May 25, the 10th Annual Chili Challenge pits all the area's restaurants in a cookoff, and luckily, all the area hotels are nearby. (Though, honestly, we sorta think of chili as a winter food.)
Rooms at Waterville's lodges and condos start at $43 per person (with quad occupancy) and you have five properties to choose from. If you book a Memorial Day package, you also get $50 worth of "Town Square Bucks," which you can spend at select businesses after the Chili Challenge.
It might be worth it to get to Waterville a day early, too. On May 24, a penny carnival for the kids leads into an evening at the town's planetarium. After an indoor presentation, astronomers will then set up telescopes outside and help you scout the sky for cool stuff.

Memorial Day Weekend in Vegas for $49 a Night at the Golden Nugget

Ready to blow your rebate check in Vegas, over Memorial Day Weekend, with some change left over to gamble on the slot machines? Then book a room at The Golden Nugget.
TravelZoo is offering an unbelievably low rate of $49 for the nights of May 26 & 27. Room rates jump up to $99-119 if you plan to tack on extra days beforehand, May 23-25.
Visitors planning to book rooms should do it now, before the deal expires on May 20 (use Code TZGV10). This is a pretty good steal because it also includes a two-for-one breakfast and lunch coupon deal, and $20 gaming credit to get you started.
There's also a $20 voucher for the Golden Nugget Spa. Prices aren't cheap, but the voucher covers an entry fee, which includes "all day usage of sauna, steam, locker room amenities, lounges, and fitness facilities." Good deal.
The 'Nugget also has a mambo pool with a colossal shark tank and a three-story water slide. There are three restaurants, a buffet, three cafes, and a Starbucks, in case your adrenaline wanes on the casino floor for a split second.
(If you win the jackpot, they'll put your photo up on their website, but that's another story...)

Let Your Soul Glow at the Occidental for the Soul Beach Music Festival

Coming up over the Memorial Day Weekend is the Soul Beach Music Festival, taking place from May 21 to 26 on Aruba. It's the eighth year that this festival's been run--and the fourth year that it's taken place in Aruba--and some of the singers this year include Erykah Badu, Sinbad, Wyclef Jean and Sean Kingston.
A bunch of hotels are acting as hosts for the festival, and one of these is the Occidental Grand Aruba on Palm Beach. It's an all-inclusive resort with almost 400 rooms and suites, plus six restaurants and five bars; plenty of space for fun and action, and probably the right kind of resort to chill in during a soul fest.
The Occidental Grand still has rooms left for the whole festival week, and a deluxe room for two (all-inclusive, of course), starts at $2,280 for five nights. Along with meals, this all-inclusive price also includes activities like sailing, snorkeling, kayaking and tennis, in case you run out of steam at the music festival. Personally we might hang too long at the concerts to make the most of that, but it's nice to have the option.

Jersey Shore Memorial Day Hotel :: Ocean Place Resort

TV Shows like MTV's True Life: I'm a Jersey Shore Girl have certainly does NJ beaches a disservice recently but we still have a fond spot in our hearts for the shore. And since not everyone likes to party at Jenkinson's in Point Pleasant or the Parker House in Spring Lake, we tried to find a reasonable beachfront hotel getaway for Memorial Day Weekend.
The Ocean Place Resort in Long Branch looks more than decent. Even though it looks more like a conference hotel (probably it's biggest business October through April), the hotel is located on the Long Branch Boardwalk. There's three restaurants and one bar, a spa and it's right on the beach. Their website is pretty snazzy too.
So from Friday to Monday, the hotel is offering non-view rates of $300, a coastline view rate of $319 and oceanfront king rooms for $419. These rates include high-speed wireless internet, complimentary coffee and newspaper in the lobby.
The reviews on the place are so-so. We think it might have something to do with the staff in the off-season. Maybe come Memorial Day, they will be eager to help you. We hope so at $300 a night for a stay in Jersey. But hey, it's on the beach and it's not a house with 15 other recent college grads trying to get on MTV.
[Ed. Note: We think the photo of the bride running on the beach on the hotel's photo gallery has to be a fake. The Jersey Shore is never that clean!

Las Vegas Memorial Day Hotel Deal :: The Las Vegas Hilton

If you're thinking about heading to Las Vegas for Memorial Day Weekend, forget about staying at Caesar's or the Wynn where room rates are over $500 a night. If you need to be on the strip, you can hit up the Flamingo which has rooms Hotels.com for about $225 a night or the New York New York which has rooms for about $250 a night.
However, if we had to book something today we would probably go with the Las Vegas Hilton where the total weekend cost is about $677.25.
Yes, we put this hotel on our Crapping Out list, largely because this place caters to the Star Trek freaks and the Barry Manilow fans. (Whoa, we just had a scary thought. Can a person be both a Star Trek freak and a Barry Manilow fan?) But ever since we learned the place has free WiFi in the Hilton coffee shop we have decided to give it a second chance. Plus Barry is not performing over Memorial Day Weekend.

San Diego Memorial Day Hotel Deal :: W Hotel or U.S. Grant

To Californians, Memorial Day Weekend is not that big of a deal compared to East Coasters who share a house in the Hamptons or down the shore. Yet a holiday is a holiday and San Diego hotels are taking advantage of that.
The U.S. Grant Hotel is offering rooms for the weekend at a rate of $269 on their website but no cancellations allowed (hotels.com has $279 listed.) These are actually pretty good prices for a Luxury Collection hotel from Starwood. Although, do realize you will be paying almost a $1,000 if you stay through the weekend which to us is crazy to spend and still be in America. Unless it's Vegas. We would do that for Vegas.
You can get something similar over at US Grant's sister property, the W San Diego. However, this hotel has "thoughtfully" put together a Memorial Day package in which parking and two cocktails is rolled into the room rate of $309. Just a regular room rate without the extras is $237 and is non-refundable.
While both hotels are in San Diego proper and not close to the beach, the W San Diego has the popular rooftop beach bar (above) so you can dig your toes in the sand if you please.
As for the beach hotels, unless you want to stay at a major chain like Hilton, Sheraton or Marriott the better San Diego beach hotels are starting at $400 a night. Pretty much the only way you can get a room under $200 a night in SanD is to stay in places like Comfort or Vagabond Inns so we say hit up Waikiki instead.
