Marina Del Rey's Jamaica Bay Inn to Open December 1st at $149 a Night

The LA hotel scene has definitely been quiet, almost sleepy, when compared to the nonstop action of NYC. So when we hear of a new hotel--even if it's just an extensive remodel or rebranding of an existing one--we get super excited.
The latest hotel to enter the market is the Jamaica Bay Inn in Marina del Rey. This is actually an old Best Western that's getting an extensive reno to transform itself into a "beachfront resort-like setting" and to transport guests to a faraway Caribbean resort.
Each guest room is a private, peaceful oasis with an understated yet elegant island-inspired décor. By making use of tropical textures like rattan, rich woods and leather, the design captures the essence of sophisticated island living.
Upgraded amenities include complimentary high-speed wireless Internet throughout the hotel, luxuriously comfortable bedding, environmentally friendly, luxury bath products, granite countertops and much more.
Many rooms feature their own private balcony, providing city views on one side and views of the beach, marina, pool and gardens on the other.

LA's Only Ritz-Carlton Not Quite in LA
We spent the weekend at the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey and kind of loved it. But only kind of because, well, luxury on it's own isn't quite good enough. Check out our video tour of deluxe room 822 or keep reading for a full review.
This is the only Ritz in LA, but it's not exactly in LA. We had to get over to Hollywood for a meeting and it took over an hour--and that was on the weekend. However, if you don't need to go farther than LAX or Santa Monica or if you're just looking to hang out just at the hotel, it's great. It's real close to quirky Venice Beach and the Marina del Rey marina is right there if you're a boating junkie.

Inside The Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey
We spent the weekend in Room 822 at the Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey.
Ok, we really only spent part of the weekend in the room. The rest of the time we chilled at the spa and by the pool, because, yes, it is still warm enough in Southern California to lay out by the (outdoor) pool. Stay tuned for our full review of the hotel coming tomorrow.
Disclosure: Abigail stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey at the behest of the Marina Del Rey Convention and Visitors Bureau.

DeAnna Pappas Celebrates Betrothed Bliss at the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey

Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas has found her prince (for now anyways) and to officially show Jesse Csincsak off to the world, she hit up the new revamped pool lounge at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey on Sunday.
The pool area was transformed into a party for tan, muscled, well-dressed 20-somethings with the occasional tattoo and nipple ring. DeAnna and Jesse cuddled in the corner at a reserved table and even took a dip in the pool together. In case you missed it, don't fret. This type of party will be happening more often at the Ritz.

Snapshot :: The Marina Del Rey Marriott's Glow Bar

This is a snapshot of the Glow Bar at the Marina Del Rey Marriott in California which sits on the edge of the Marina Harbor, just south of Santa Monica.
The Marina tends to get overlooked by tourists as neighboring Santa Monica and Venice are the more popular spots to check-out. But the Marina is coming into its own lately and the Glow Bar at the Marriott provides a hip outdoor dining and lounge experience.
There's a full menu for dining or you can get bottle service in one of the private cabanas. And like most hip lounges, the place has a specialty cocktail menu that includes several fruit-inis like pear and pomegranate and a key lime pie drink made with Licor 43, Grey Goose Vanille, lime juice, and a splash of cream.
The picture found on the website look pretty glossy, especially for a Marriott, but we have confirmation that the place is pretty cool. We even hear that the folks at Electronic Arts across the way like to stop in here for drinks after work.
