Tokyo's Mandarin Oriental Rings In 2010 With All-You-Can-Drink Moet

Where: 2-1-1 Nihonbashi Muromachi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan

The new year in Japan, or "Shogatsu," is typically a time of praying and visiting holy sites, but since our holy sites are the best hotels in town, we figured spending Shogatsu partying it up at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo is an acceptable option. And the good news is, you don't have to pay the $765-and-up that rooms are going for during the holiday weekend to partake in the festivities.

Instead, we recommend making reservations for the 10pm-to-1am party at the hotel's 37th floor Mandarin Bar. At $163 per person, you'll save $600 by not opting for the room, and yet you'll be guzzling unlimited Moet & Chandon champagne, including Rosé Impérial, and Brut Impérial. Not to mention you'll have the stunning view over the city and—hopefully—new friends with whom to dance the year away.

If you still want to visit the temples or take advantage of the special openings of the Imperial Palace grounds, then you can use all that saved money to perhaps hire a car to take you around on New Year's Day, while you recover from your hangover in the back seat.

To reserve a spot at the Mandarin Bar, call +81 (3) 3270 8188 or email motyo-fbres(at)mohg.com.

Football season hasn’t officially kicked off yet, but already NFL execs are scaling back the Super Bowl splurge. The Miami Herald reports that the league recently dropped 17 hotels in Miami and Miami Beach for the February 7 event. The Mandarin Oriental on Brickell is the only property being sacked actually named in the article, while the Doubletree Grand downtown was named as one of the hotels whose reservation numbers were cut significantly.

Hong Kong's Landmark Mandarin Will Have a Swanky Easter Buffet

Although any excuse for a fancy hotel buffet or high tea service will do, there is nothing like Easter for bringing out all the trimmings. Stop into any nice hotel in the United States this upcoming weekend and you're sure to catch the chefs covered in egg dye and the diners swathed in pastels. What about if you are abroad and have a hankering for some traditional Easter noshing, however? In Hong Kong, leave it up to the Landmark Mandarin Oriental to save the day with an Easter weekend lunch, brunch buffet, and afternoon tea buffet.

On April 11 and 12 only, the 648HKD ($89) lunch at the Landmark's Amber restaurant involves more than just five courses and wine pairings, but also includes something of a babysitting service for your kids: an Easter egg hunt and a side buffet for children (288HKD or $37 for those under 12).

G20 Taking Care of Business at London's Mandarin Oriental

April's Fools Day may be long over, but memories of the dinner that "Naked Chef" Jamie Oliver cooked for the G20 leaders in London that night will remain forever...or at least until it's all digested. After a filling meal that focused on fresh and "British" ingredients, Nicholas Sarkozy and posse headed back to his hotel, the Mandarin Oriental, for a little after dinner mint and negotiations regarding that lovely little tax haven of Macau.

When not holed up in meetings with other G20 leaders, what do you suppose Sarkozy did with his time spent in the grand environs of the Mandarin? We like to think that he balanced all the wine-drinking and rich meals out by hitting the gym a couple times, but how could a stressed world leader resist the charms of the hotel's "Zen Color Therapy Relaxation" room or its "Amethyst Crystal Steam Room?" If we had to sit in tense meetings all day, with the fate of parts of the world on our shoulders, then you can be sure we'd spring for a "Ama Releasing Abhyanga" treatment to balance our chakras.

Want to play president and treat yourself to a night where Sarkozy slept and dreamt of gambling in Macau? Be prepared to fork over more than 3,990 GBP ($5,891) for a Deluxe Suite this month, or 255 GBP ($376.50) for a regular room—perfect for any Nicholas and Carla Bruni fantasies you have going.
