We've avoided covering the hotel scene at the Cannes Film Festival this year largely because the same shizz happens every year, practically on auto-pilot. Expensive hotels get more expensive, movies get booed and applauded, Sharon Stone walks the red carpet over and over and nothing really truly of interest happens.

Except when it happens to Madonna. Apparently, Madge was holed up in the Intercontinental Carlton Hotel in Cannes last week while there to promote her documentary, "I Am Because We Are", about orphans in Malawi. But she got pissed when she saw that a French TV crew had managed to sneak into her suite and film the place, including the special water and gym equipment she had requested.

And according to the French newspaper, Le Parisien, Madonna won't pay the $90,000 hotel bill because of the security breach. Usually, we think Madonna's a bit of a crackpot but she's actually very right in this instance. We bet a couple of people got fired at the Carlton this week.

[Ed. Note: We had a secret operative at the Waldorf-Astoria on Monday night when Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Said spy, AllBeachy, gives us the full report of what went down. Madonna fans listen up. Enjoy.

The normally somewhat-staid Waldorf-Astoria was rockin’ on Monday night as the annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction dinner crowd took over the ballroom. Beautiful People abounded, as a mix of luminaries from the worlds of entertainment, publishing, and business table-hopped and schmoozed it up.

Rates at the Waldorf the Night Madonna and Others Get Inducted into Hall of Fame

Calling all Material Girls (and Boys). Madonna is going to be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York on March 10. Thus we have begun scoping out some prices for the hotel.

The best deal we can see right now is directly through the hotel's website. We found a double-bedded room at $319 a night (March 9-11). However it's a handicap accessible room. Usually this means more space but could also mean funky shower heads.

Other sites like Hotels.com are offering rooms starting at $369 a night, not including tax. But this way you have more flexibility as far as bed choices. Go to HotelChatter's Hotel Rates to see the complete findings for the Waldorf.

But if the NYC hotels are pushing your budget over the borderline (sorry, had to do that), once again Six Columbus has an unreal deal via Quikbook. Rooms are going for $99 on March 9 and for $135 on March 10th. (Plug in the dates for NYC and this should pop up.)

If we can trust the reliable folk at er, "Pop Bitch", it would certainly appear that way.

The gossip newsletter says that the basement bar at London's Park Lane Hilton, Zeta, is to be relaunched as a private members club by Mahiki owner Piers Adam and his cohorts, with none other than Madonna rounding out the partnership (Adam was Guy Ritchie's best man at Madge's wedding).

The Zeta bar is actually just one of the many nightlife and dining options offered in the hotel, which also has a Trader Vic's restaurant, a POP champagne bar, and the Galvin at Windows french restaurant on the 28th floor which offers 360 degree views of the city. There's also a more relaxed dining area with the Podium restaurant.

However, with Amy Sacco having launched Bungalow in London last year at the St. Martins Lane Hotel, and Richard Caring's entertainment empire continuing to expand at an astronomic rate, Adam and Mads will have their work cut out for them.

Caring, who owns Annabel's private club and The Ivy and Le Caprice restaurants has just snapped up another of London's most exclusive venues, Soho House. Another elite club is due to open above The Ivy this spring.

But we think if Madonna wants to get into the nightclub business, it can't be much worse than her "movie career." Besides, won't listening to Borderline inside Madonna's club feel that much more special?
