What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas--Family-Style
$149 per person

Normally, we wouldn't consider Las Vegas a great place to take the family but The Signature at MGM Grand is a pretty family-friendly hotel. There is no obnoxious casino in the lobby (you have to walk on through to the MGM Grand for that) nor are there bars or nightclubs pulsing on-site (Again, head to the MGM Grand for that scene.

Plus the hotel has its own pool area, a Starbucks coffee shop, its own Concierge services and the rooms are all suites complete with kitchenettes. And it's like totally affordable.

Since we've got sex on the brain today and since there's nowhere sexier than Vegas, we're giving you a heads up on cheap-o rates at the MGM Grand Las Vegas.

From now until September 15th, MGM is offering Sunday-Thursday rates of $69 and up (hehe, 69). We checked out the rate calendar for August (see above) and it's looking like the week of the 17th will be your best bet at this point.

To score the $69 rates, make sure to use promo code MGM023 when booking online.

And hey: when you go, make sure to check out the Wet Republic party pool and let us know what the scene is like!

We reckon the hotel market's nearly reached saturation point with Sex and the City packages, but this one at least distinguishes itself by not being in New York. Some might say this makes it kind of irrelevant to SATC, but we don't mind since they're call it the Sex in Sin City escape package.

This deal is being put on by the The Signature at MGM Grand and of course, it's a package designed for four girlfriends to take together.

Wet Republic To Bring Daytime Pool Party to the MGM Grand

In Las Vegas, having one pool just won't do. In fact, having two pools won't do either. Nowadays, the trend seems to be a main pool, a quiet pool and a party pool. Think Tao Beach at the Venetian, the Rehab parties at the Hard Rock. And if it's a more "upscale" property, throw in a topless, European-style pool too.

MGM Grand has just added the party pool, called Wet Republic.

True to its name, water is the leitmotif at WET REPUBLIC with eight separate pools and spas totaling more than 7,600 square feet of cool blue indulgence. At its centerpiece, WET REPUBLIC will feature two spectacular saltwater pools - the only on the Las Vegas Strip - measuring 2,500 and 3,500 square feet, respectively. Six cascading waterfalls will accent the vast poolscape and create the illusion of a never-ending flow of water.

Wet Republic will also feature a monster sundeck located between the lounge and the saltwater pools that will transform into a stage for celebrity appearances and entertainers.

And of course, no pool scene is complete without VIP cabanas and Wet Republic has upped the ante with VIP bungalows that have a king-sized daybed, giant flat screens, video game consoles (Guitar Hero?), and complimentary WiFi. Non-VIP pool-goers but still high-rollers can hit up one of the 10 party cabanas that line the pool. The rest of you plebes will have to fight for a chair.

Wet Republic is not open yet but the hotel reps promise it will open this month. When it does, the hours are from 10am to 6pm daily.

Hotel Opening Rates :: MGM Grand at Foxwoods for $295 a Night

March 3, 2008 at 2:49 PM | 0 Comments

Connecticut's newest hotel-casino, MGM Grand at Foxwoods won't open until May 18, 2008 but starting today, guests can go online to make reservations.

Interestingly, when we tried to log-in at 2pm EST, the site wasn't loading. We tried 20 minutes later and it was loading but sloooow. So either there's a heck of a lot of people trying to make rezzies or there's just some website kinks to work out.

Anyhow, rooms are starting at $295 a night but for the opening week, the rates are a ridiculous $590 a night.

The latest MGM Grand family member will have 825 rooms, not quite Vegas-sized but close. Inside will be gaming, a 4,000-seat theater, a spa, a nightclub and several dining options such as Michael Schlow's Alta Strada, Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak and an outpost of the New York eatery, Junior's.

We're actually a little more excited about the retail opportunities which will include an authorized Apple reseller. So now instead of blowing our winnings on silly things like bottle service and blow-outs, we can buy stuff we'll actually use once we get home.

Signature at MGM Grand Tops Las Vegas on TripAdvisor

We don't put complete faith in the hotel rankings done by TripAdvisor for each city. Sometimes they are spot on and sometimes they are completely off--like the Hampton Inn being the #1 hotel in Miami.

These rankings have to do with reviews and price and not necessarily the hippest spots, but we were interested in the #1 choice for Sin City. It turns out that Signature at the MGM Grand is the winner.

The average price is listed as $284 and the most recent review calls this "Best Hotel Stay Ever in Vegas". The page has more similarly titled reviews.

Guests love the private entrance, the all-suite accommodations with jacuzzi tubs and the separate living areas and kitchenettes with Sub-Zero appliances. Plus there's a lot of space. The junior suites start at 550 sq. ft. That's like more than two Mercer rooms put together.

Indeed our favorite hotel maven Dzot popped in there last year and wrote that the Signature was the perfect place for people escaping the madness of the strip without being too far from it.

However, this place has some downsides--like a $15 resort fee added to your room rate, and another guest complained that there were only 5 HDTV channels. Also, you still have to walk about 10 minutes before you hit the main casino floor. But that's really not that bad. We may just book this place on our next trip to Vegas.
