When One Lenny Kravitz Hotel Door Closes, Another Lenny Kravitz Hotel Door Opens

Even though Lenny Kravitz's Florida Room at the Delano Hotel is going bye-bye, the rocker turned hotel designer has another bigger project in the works. Kravitz's design firm, Kravitz Design Inc., will be designing an entire floor at the upcoming BISHA Hotel and Residences in Toronto.

The floor will be inspired by the music, art and travels of Lenny Kravitz. And judging from what he recently told the Toronto Star, we kinda wish all hotels could be as sexy as Lenny's hotels:

“It’s going to be plush and lush and comfortable and inspiring,” says the musician in a phone interview from Croatia, where he is on a European tour. “It’s going to be warm, it’s going to be soulful. It has to be elegant and sexy the moment you get off that elevator.”

'Something Lovely's Starting': SLS South Beach Will Finally Open in April 2012

It's finally official--the long awaited SLS South Beach will open in April 2012! This will mark the second SLS Hotel to open after the flagship one in Los Angeles and hotelier Sam Nazarian is pulling out all the stops, combining pretty much all of his restaurant and nightclub hotspots under one roof.

First off, the hotel will feature room designs from SLS hotel designer Philippe Starck. While we only have that above rendering to go on, the rooms still retain the airy and effervescent quality of the SLS in LA but this looks a little, how do we say this?--cozier?

There are no "floating" glass beds and cramped low ceilings, although there will be oversized chaise lounges and the beds do look as if they are levitating ever so slightly. Starck is also doing something a little unusual behind the bed with curtains that feature a painted-on bedroom scheme. Same goes for the "armoire" that "holds" the TV opposite the bed (we saw this in another smaller rendering.) Oh and don't forget to look up, because there's a mirror on the ceiling!

Lenny Kravitz to Work His Hotel Sex Magic on The SLS South Beach

We didn't think it was possible but the hotel scene in South Beach is going to get a whole lot sexier next spring. SLS Hotel South Beach has just announced that Lenny Kravitz is designing some suites for them.

SBE, the parent company of SLS Hotels and run by nightlife man Sam Nazarian, has put Lenny's Kravitz Design Inc. in charge of creating an exclusive bungalow and penthouse suite at the hotel. The bungalow suite will be one of 10 that will surround the pool area and we expect it to be nothing less than the sexiest of sexy suites. But will you make us pancakes in the morning, Lenny? That remains to be seen.

The rest of the hotel's interiors will, of course, be designed by Philippe Starck who has a special arrangement with SLS Hotels. But Philippe is more than down to share the design spotlight with Lenny calling him,

"a weapon of massive construction. He is an explosion of all talents, an unlimited boiling bucket of culture, a daily firework, a tireless explorer. Lenny is incredibly alive. Lenny is a friend."

Awww, Philippe has a man crush!

Lenny Kravitz To Start Tweaking Miami's Shelborne Hotel?

Lenny Kravitz is still jamming...as a hotel designer that is. And judging from his portfolio, the Lenny Kravitz Design firm is strictly a Miami hotel lounge business.

He's already done the recording studio at The Setai and The Florida Room at The Delano and now there's word that he wants to design a Sand Bar Lounge at The Shelborne Hotel.

Page Six reports that he met with Shelborne's owner Keith Menin last weekend to discuss the design detes. Whoever ends up designing it--and we do hope it's Kravitz as the Shelborne needs some coolness on the property--the Sand Bar is expected to open in the Fall. Currently room rates for The Shelborne start at $200 a night.

Yes! We've finally got our grubby hands on some pictures of the Lenny Kravitz Recording Studio inside the penthouse suite at Setai in Miami Beach and we have to say it's pretty killer.

Now, we wish we needed an album to record.  Is it too late to ask our parents for guitar lessons?

One more pic after the jump.

For so many years, we have heard about this mythical recording studio that musician Lenny Kravitz would be building inside the tony Miami Beach hotel, The Setai.

But we never really believed this studio would come to fruition, especially not after Lenny made the rounds as a hotel lounge designer.

Yet we were wrong to have doubted Kravitz. The digital and analog recording studio created by Kravitz Design, inc. has opened. It's official name is the Setai Recording Studio and it's located in a two-floor penthouse suite in hotel, complete with ocean views and private outdoor patio.

Our party animal tipster Gregg passed along this photo to us of Lenny Kravitz hanging out at the Florida Room inside the Delano Hotel a few nights ago. (The gal in the pic is singer Ana Cristina...She's 22 and she MySpaces!)

We like that Lenny's not too cool for his own lounge. But Lenny may not have much time for The Florida Room in the next few weeks as he sets to do some US concerts. If you wanna catch him, wait until February when his tour is done.

Art Basel Party Report: Inside Lenny Kravitz's Florida Room at the Delano Hotel

Once again we have our Miami Beach insider/party animal Gregg to thank for this inside scoop on the newly opened Florida Room inside The Delano Hotel. The lounge is the first official nightclub from musician Lenny Kravitz and was host to the Agent Provacateur Art Basel party last week. Enjoy.

I got to the side entrance of Delano Hotel (on 17th Street) at 10 pm and had to wait 15 minutes until they were ready to open and let people in. Security was real tight. But it was a pleasure waiting because Granville the doorman (imported from NYC) is super nice and polite. He will kill you with kindness no matter how rude you are to him.

The Florida Room is very 1950's Cuban-style lounge. Lenny Kravitz's design firm did a really nice job. The uniforms are old school. The bartenders wear green jackets and the cocktail waitress's wear a white blouse (showing cleavage) and a black high waisted skirt. They also had girls dressed in Agent Provocateur corsets with 1950's hairdos and make-up greeting you into The Florida Room's entrance.

Lenny Kravitz: Officially a Hotel Lounge Designer

Some more Delano, Morgans Hotel Group and Art Basel news all rolled in one....

Morgans Hotel Group has officially announced the first hotel lounge from budding designer Lenny Kravitz inside the Delano Hotel.

Called the Florida Room, the lounge is a modern speakeasy in the hotel's basement with smoked bronze mirrored ceilings, Swarovski crystal chandeliers, and a lucite grand piano by Schimmel, a replica of the piano in Lenny's own home. And here's how he describes the place:

"My aunt had a place in her house where everyone played, hung out, listened to music and where all the fun was had, called the Florida room," said Lenny Kravitz. "We decided to create a space with this theme in mind but that also had the feeling of the old piano lounges in the resorts back in the 50's in Florida, Cuba and New York City. I love the rich musical history of Miami Beach. The Beatles, James Brown and Frank Sinatra all spent time here. We see the Delano as having this same kind of rich history and also took cues from this to envision the place I always wanted at the beach, but hasn't existed here in a long time."

Good thing we got this backstory otherwise we would think The Florida Room was a gigantic conference room in a big box hotel somewhere.

The lounge has been opened all this week for Art Basel parties including its own opening party on Monday night and the Agent Provocateur party which was held there last night.

Notes on a Rumor: Lenny Kravitz and Andre Balazs in Eleuthera

November 12, 2007 at 3:17 PM | by | Comments (0)

Over the summer we got a tip that Lenny Kravitz would be designing the hotel lounge for hotelier Andre Balazs in his newest property on Eleuthera island in the Bahamas. The resort would be another in the Standard Hotel brand, built around the prefabricated Maison Tropicale house that Balazs snapped up at an auction.

Since we just spent four days on the island of Eleuthera, we thought we would be able to sufficiently update this rumor. For starters, everyone we mentioned the AB/Kravitz partnership to, from the tourism officials to hotel owners to a hotel bartender, had no clue about it. Some hadn't even heard of Andre Balazs so whatever is being planned is just that, being planned. There's nothing definitive.

However Lenny is a big part of the island. He has a house near Gregory Town and frequently pops into local restaurants and local bars for impromput jam sessions. To say he's the darling of the island people is an understatement. So if he puts together anything whether it be a concert or a hotel lounge, the people would know about it right away.

We're not saying that Lenny and Andre won't team up for Eleuthera but its definitely too early to know anything.

Lenny Kravitz To Design Hotel Bar for Andre Balazs?

August 30, 2007 at 9:19 AM | by | Comments (0)

Word on the street is that Lenny Kravitz, emerging hotel lounge designer, will be creating a hotel bar for Andre Balazs' new Standard Hotel in the Jean Prouve prefabricated resort house Maison Tropicale that Balazs snapped up a few months back.

Even bigger news is that it seems Balazs has decided on a place for this resort as well--Eleuthera island in the Bahamas, where coincidentally Lenny Kravitz has a house.

That's all the details we have for now but we'll keep you posted when we hear more.

Lenny Kravitz: Hotel Lounge Designer

It's hard to believe but Lenny Kravitz has just signed a deal with the Morgans Hotel Group to design a lounge for their Delano Hotel.

WWD reports that Kravitz, working with his firm Kravitz Design, will spearhead the project as a creative director.

"I love the musical history of Miami Beach," says Kravitz, who made his first site visit to the Delano this week. "The Beatles, James Brown and Frank Sinatra all spent time here." To capture that mood, he's creating a speakeasy-style space, tucked underneath the hotel's Blue Door restaurant.

The lounge should be open by next December in time for Art Basel which is practically the Delano's favorite holiday.

This is the second time the Morgans Hotel Group has signed on a celeb/famous person to create a hotel lounge for them. Remember that Amy Sacco of Bungalow 8 in New York has opened an outpost in the St. Martins Lane hotel in London.

We just wonder, did Lenny's music studio ever open up in the Setai? And if it did, isn't this new deal with Morgans like cheating?
