Just Call Her Kim 'Key Kard'-ashian

No surprise here: professional egomaniac Kim Kardashian, who recently expressed a desire to open her own hotel in Dubai (and was swiftly shot down by the WSJ), is absolutely smitten with a particular keycard in Vegas. Why? Because it has her face on it.

Back in August, when The Mirage announced the opening of Kardashian Khaos, some gave it the thumbs up, and just as many outright disowned the hotel. Kinda like when that petition was circulated to cancel all Kardashian programming on the E! network. But unlike TV, which can always be shut off, a hotel takeover is slightly more cataclysmic. And when it gets to the point that you can't even enter your room without seeing their faces, that's surely grounds for hotel boycotting.

For a twitpic of the key card, see below!

If You Find Dolphins Relaxing, You Should Consider Doing Yoga With Them

When we first learned that The Mirage was offering yoga classes inside their underwater dolphin viewing area, we wondered just how productive those classes would actually be. Isn't yoga supposed to be about focus and self-discipline? Last time we visited an aquarium, we were so excited we literally ran from tank to tank.

The unconventional yoga space has multiple windows looking into the "habitat," so students will be more likely to be spying on the dolphin families than fine-tuning their poses. As for the dolphins? They see people every day—whether sitting in rows on the bleachers, or twisted into a pretzel on the floor, an audience is an audience. This is nothing new for them.

What is Happening with The Las Vegas Hilton? (If We Can Still Call It That)

Where: 3000 Paradise Road [map], Las Vegas, NV, United States, 89109

Back in June, we heard the sad news that the Las Vegas Hilton, home to Elvis' Las Vegas residency, would be losing its Hilton status although the hotel owners promised to announce a new hotel partnership before the end of the year.

Our little sibling, VegasChatter has been keeping a close eye on the troubled property which was found to be delinquent on some of its mortgage payments in September putting it in danger of both foreclosure and closing. Then just a few weeks ago, VegasChatter learned that the hotel filed a trademark for the name, LVH Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. Very interesting name choice.

Now, the latest development is that the Las Vegas Hilton may actually stay open for another year. VegasChatter got the scoop from a hotel employee who said:

November 3, 2011 at 10:36 AM | by | Comments (0)

It looks like things are moving forward now at a rapid pace with SLS Hotels. After yesterday's surprise announcement that the SLS South Beach will open in April of next year, we now learn that SLS Las Vegas aka The Sahara has just gotten its massive casino-renovations approved by Clark County. Las Vegas Review-Journal reports:

According to the plan, the existing room towers, the Tunis, Tangiers and Alexandria, will be renovated. The roller coaster will be dismantled and a 2,830-square-foot beer garden will be constructed. The number of hotel rooms will be decreased from 1,700 to 1,622.

Retail, tenant and restaurant spaces will be added, and the casino floor will be renovated. A 21,000-square-foot nightclub will be built, and 41,000 square feet of meeting and convention space will be added with a new pool deck area.

Which City Has The Most Bed Bugs?

September 7, 2011 at 8:45 AM | by | Comment (1)

Well, we can't say we're that surprised. According to data released yesterday, none other but Las Vegas ranked number one as the city with the most hotel bedbug complaints. Guess all those extra hotel rooms proved too enticing for the little blood-suckers.

The report contains a quote from Philip Vaughn, CEO of Raveable.com (the travel website that completed the study), who says this has been "a groundbreaking year for bedbugs." And how. We'd only just finished telling you about The Park Central's Union Rat woes yesterday, and now this happens. Aren't you curious to see which other cities made the cut? More creepy-crawly cities after the jump.

What Happens in Vegas Actually Comes Home With You, If You Stayed at Aria Recently

July 14, 2011 at 5:00 PM | by | Comments (0)

Generally, on a trip to Vegas, you can expect to get wasted, lose money gambling, spend more than you can afford on food, drinks and Chippendales and then go home with a wicked hangover and vow to do it all again next year/month/lifetime. What you don't expect is to get home and receive a letter from the hotel like this one, saying you may have contacted Legionnaire's disease.

That's what is currently unfolding at Aria Resort and Casino. Apparently guests who stayed at the hotel June 21 and July 4 are being contacted by the hotel in cooperation with the Southern Nevada Health district after "six former ARIA guests have come down with the pneumonia-like disease which can be contracted through exposure to bacteria-infected water."

Wow, a nasty head cold from the smoky casinos is sounding kinda good right now huh?

Did you stay at Aria during June 21 and July? First, call the Aria Hotline at 1-877-326-ARIA (2742). Then tell us how you feel right now!

No More Viva Las Vegas Hilton

Our little sib, VegasChatter alerted us yesterday that the iconic-but-has-seen-better-days Hilton Las Vegas will no longer be called the Hilton Las Vegas as Hilton Hotels has apparently ditched the property.

According to the LVRJ, Hilton has decided not to renew the franchise agreement which means that the Hilton Las Vegas will have to give up the hotel name and its loyalty program.

However, a spokesperson for the hotel said that the property will announce a new partnership with another major hotel group before the end of the year.

Hmmm...maybe Starwood now that it no longer has dibs on Planet Hollywood? Or maybe this could be another opportunity for Marriott's Edition Hotels which are under pressure to expand?

5 Hotels That Are Acting Like The Airlines With Extra Fees

June 22, 2011 at 3:00 PM | by | Comments (3)

Is this offer from an airline or a hotel?

Whee!! Summer is officially here and you've got the urge to book a flight+hotel (or two or three) for a summery getaway. But while we've all begrudgingly accepted that airlines are extra fees-obsessed (baggage fees, leg room fees, change fees, security fees, early boarding fees, etc.), we're disheartened to see that more and more hotels are acting like airlines these days by charging big fees for little extras.

Here are five of the top offenders so far:

5. Fontainebleau: The good news is that it looks like this popular Miami Beach hotel has dropped their $8 baggage fee in case you want to store your luggage after check-out but before your flight home. The bad news is they are charging you $150 for incidentals when you check-in. Yup, they automatically charge you $150 before you even step foot in your hotel room.

Now, if you don't charge anything to your room during your stay, the charge will be released at check-out but will take five to seven days to appear back in your account. If you don't have a credit card at check-in, you will be asked to fork over $600 in cash. Then you will be refunded the money via a check in the mail sometime after you check out. Seriously. You can read for yourself here.

While you sat at home watching Lisa Rinna and Star Jones get catty and Richard Hatch push David Cassidy on the season-opener of Celebrity Apprentice last night, the show's D-list cast was whooped it up a day early, hanging at the Encore Las Vegas to celebrate the premiere on Saturday night.

Gary Busey, Lil Jon, 2010 Playmate of the Year Hope Dworaczyk and Real Housewives of Atlanta diva NeNe Leakes all kicked it at Surrender Nightclub. According to hotel officials, the only appearance Donald Trump was able to offer was in a prerecorded message: "Ladies and gentleman, this is Donald Trump. My man from The Celebrity Apprentice Lil Jon is on the turntable. If you're not partying, your ass is fired!"

Not only will you get a wedding at the Mandarin Oriental, but it'll throw in a free honeymoon of five whole nights at any of its hotels worldwide.

From Ritz-Carlton Rooms To Glorious Views: Inside Ravella Lake Las Vegas

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 1610 Lake Las Vegas Parkway [map], Henderson, NV, United States, 89011

As we showed you last week, we got all excited when we stepped into the new Ravella hotel at Lake Las Vegas and saw a lobby/lounge area designed to appeal to the dominant geek in us. We fell for that lobby instantly. But how about the rest?

Well, despite what we said about it inheriting a poisoned chalice, there’s a lot going for Ravella. But then again, there’s a lot going against it.

In its favor: first impressions.
Winding down towards the hotel, you see the Vegas Strip from afar, then the Ponte Vecchio-style bridge straddling the lake, then roll up to a huge Italianate palazzo. There are olive trees guiding you up the lane, palm trees as you pull up, a huge fountain – it feels more like a stately version of Palm Springs than Sin City. It's pretty smashing.

Then you walk inside, hit the hi tech lobby, and think, wow, this place has really managed to combine a grand entrance with a foxy interior. You check out the iPads, you watch the TV, grab one of the stack of free newspapers and mull over the happenings in North Africa with a fistful of free sweeties from the jars by check in. You look out of the huge lounge windows over the Italianate gardens below (the lobby is on the third floor) and over to the lake. And you think, wow, this is the perfect marriage of city-savvy and rural retreat.

And then you walk out of the lobby and suddenly you’re in a Ritz-Carlton. Not just any Ritz-Carlton, either – one that let itself go about five years ago.
