Where to Stay in NYC for Labor Day Weekend

Only one and a half weeks to go! Labor Day weekend is a game that every hotel wants in on (we know we'll be traveling!), but for this particular holiday roundup, we've chosen to highlight the NYC hotels that we've been following this summer. Either through openings, or news stories, we're sticking with the hotels we know about. Think of it as a "greatest hits" collection, minus the cheesy power ballads.

Almost one month into the game, The Nolitan has been generating some buzz, undoubtedly thanks to its unique, nabe-honoring name. Over Labor Day weekend, rates go as low as $341. And if you remember from our tour last month, almost all rooms include cozy little balconies that overlook much of the Soho area, plus views of the Williamsburg Bridge.

Starbucks Lovers, Head Here Over Labor Day Weekend

Along the illustrious Fifth Avenue sit a great many New York mainstays: Bergdorf Goodman, Bryant Park, The Museum of Sex—and a barely noticeable mid-range hotel named after its address. Though we've written about it before, here are two points about Hotel 373 we'd like to drive home today:

· the Starbucks in the lobby will satisfy your caffeine addiction like no other hotel coffee station on the entire island of Manhattan (it's literally under the hotel)

· they still have availability over Labor Day weekend. 'Nuff said.

Fairfield Baltimore Offers Green Rooms for Labor Day Weekend

Hotel Veritas Is Busy With Harvard Parents But Still Has Rooms For Labor Day

It's move-in week at Harvard, and Cambridge's newest boutique hotel is brimming with proud parents. But forget Back to School for a second—we still have summer holidays on our minds, and a few of our Twitter followers asked us about hotels available for Labor Day in Boston. The good news is: the kids will be settled in by then, the folks back at home, and Hotel Veritas has rooms available for the holiday weekend.

Hard Rock San Diego Is Planning an Intervention for Labor Day

The last time the Hard Rock San Diego held an intervention...which was last weekend.

Do you fancy a Vegas-type experience for Labor Day, only without going to Vegas because a) you’re too scared of what you might get up to or b) you don’t trust yourself not to run through that credit card? Although we don’t approve of your wussiness, we understand. And we suggest you might like to try the Hard Rock San Diego.

Their Intervention Sunday pool party is their version of the infamous Rehab in Vegas, and they’re running an Intervention Package for Labor Day, which gives you VIP access for two people at a “monstrous”, as they’re calling it, party with Paul Oakenfold at the DJ helm. Oh, and a room of course, although if Intervention goes well, you may not be needing that one.

Hit Up Le Westin Montreal for Le Labor Day Weekend

Can't get away to Europe for Labor Day? The next best thing is Montreal and more specifically Le Westin Montreal located between the Old Montréal neighborhood and the city's business district.

The building is not your typical Westin in a big city. Sure, it's inside a big 23-story tower (formerly, it was home for the Montreal Gazette newspaper) but also adjacent are three smaller historical buildings that give the hotel over 450 guestrooms and suites total. And it's still pretty new, having just opened in May 2009.

The hotel features an interesting restaurant concept, gaZette, serving French Canadian cuisine in a farm to table experience with fine-dining flair. For drinks, guests can head to the Reporter Bar where they can trade scoops--er, stories from their day.

But the real star of the building is the hotel's indoor glass-bottomed pool on the fourth floor with views down into the hotel's grand entranceway. And of course, at night there's always the ever-reliable Westin Heavenly beds to sink into after you're done exploring the city.

Looking on Quikbook for September 3-6, we found the historic Palace Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel from Starwood in Union Square, for an average of $135 a night. That's for a superior king room and the offer requires a prepayment at the time of booking. It's also non-refundable so your San Fran plans need to be set in stone.

Yes, Please: Mandarin Oriental San Francisco for $295 Over Labor Day Weekend

One of our recurring problems in life is that our love for Mandarin Oriental Hotels cannot always be supported by our wobbling bank account. So whenever we see a deal at Mandarin, who are known for luxury amenities and unreal service, we try to jump on it right away. And today we're thinking of spending Labor Day weekend at the Mandarin Oriental San Francisco.

The luxury hotel in the city's financial district is offering a daily dining credit of $50 if you stay two nights are more. With room rates starting at just $295 a night (we're used to seeing MOs at $400+), we're mighty mighty tempted.

For those of you whose bank accounts are little more, ahem, healthier than ours, it's recommended you book the Bridge to Bridge view rooms as they feature a panoramic view of both the Golden Gate and Oakland Bay bridges. Those rooms start at $460 a night over Labor Day Weekend.

Just make sure that if you valet your car, you don't get a parking ticket.

Last Minute Deal: San Fran's Bay Bridge Closes, You Get Rooms for $80

Thinking about staycationing this weekend? If you live in NorCal, you might be able to get away on the cheap. The Bay Bridge, which connects the East Bay to San Francisco and is part of Interstate 80, is closed until Tuesday, September 8. And because of that closure, two Kimpton Hotels are offering guests a special San Fran Bridge closure rate of $80. A tipster let us know about this deal:

"Approximately 270,000 people commute over that bridge per day" according to Wikipedia. Two Kimpton hotels, the Hotel Triton and Prescott Hotel, are offering a labor day promotion: "Can't Take I-80? Just pay $80" and as always, Kimpton InTouch members get free wifi throughout the hotel. Guests need to use rate code SFB to book, and is available beginning Sunday the 6th through Tuesday the 8th.

We just checked in on those rates and we're happy to report they are ARE available with the promo code. The total cost with taxes is about $92 a night. But just a note about entering in the promo code. You should select Packages & Promotions rate from the Rates Type drop-down menu at the bottom and then enter in the SFB code below. And you're on your way to an $80 room in San Fran for Labor Day.
