Milan is all ablaze with Expo at the moment, and hot on the heels of the most spectacular hotel ever comes the LaGare Milan, now open right around the corner from Milano Centrale train station.

There are 141 rooms, all looking swish enough – a bit more stylish than your average business hotel, but nothing outrageous. There’s a dark, rich palette with parquet floors and lots of wood; some suites and junior suites have balconies overlooking the cityscape, too.

Say 'Ciao' to Milan's Latest Business District Hotels

It may not be your first choice for an Italian trip… yet. But Milan is going to be so hot next year with the Expo Milano 2015, which will draw people from all around the world.

In preparation for the Expo, expect lots of hotel openings and renovations. Following the man-meat of Moxy, two of the first to come through are the B&B Hotel Milano Cenisio Garibaldi, which supposedly opened last week (though it’s not showing availability till 1 January), and the Lagare Hotel Milano Centrale which is scheduled for February.

Rocco Forte Wants To Join These Three Recently Opened Hotels in Venice

Scouring around for information about the forthcoming JW Marriott Venice yesterday, we stumbled upon a rather exciting piece of news: Rocco Forte is planning to open a hotel in Venice.

According to La Nuova, RF himself said that Venice is “attractive” (no, really?), and that he’s looking for a property. The only problem is:

Venetian palazzos are small, and it’s difficult to find space for a 60-room property, which is what we’d like.

Simples, Rocco – buy an island.

That article is from 2012, so let’s hope they’re close to finding something by now. In the meantime, here are three other recent Venice openings (all 2013) that’d be worth a shot:
