Now, Anyone Can Go to London for Dinner on the Roof

What we previously loved about the The London West Hollywood is that it's picturesque rooftop pool was off-limits to non-guests, ensuring utmost privacy. However, that's also a bummer for us since we're locals and we'd like to enjoy the view from above without having to pay for a room (On the flip side, rates are rather decent at $279 a night.)
Then came word that non-guests were allowed on the roof on Wednesday nights to sip some bubbly. And we non-guests must be behaving ourselves because now the hotel is letting non-guests up on the 10th floor roofdeck for lunch and dinner, everyday.
The newly designed open-air dining area features umbrella-topped café tables nestled on grass turf with orange trees and white roses aligning the space. The setting maintains the feel of a traditional English garden while incorporating a distinct California flair, with views from downtown Los Angeles all the way to the Getty Center and beyond.
(Yes, provided the smog is cooperating that day.)

The Scones Come Free At The London West Hollywood
Blueberry scones + free = yum
Coming from Europe, where slap up breakfast buffets included in the room tab are still pretty standard, we’re always confounded by America’s lack of morning generosity.
Luckily, The London West Hollywood is taking a leaf out of its namesake’s book by introducing its Guest Breakfast Table at Gordon Ramsay’s Boxwood Café, which served its first spread last week.
It may not be a fat fry-up, but the table is stocked with a continental brekkie of breads, pastries (including proper English scones = yum), charcuterie, cheese and fruit.

Colin Hanks Goes to London for His Wedding, in West Hollywood

We love the London West Hollywood Hotel for their free WiFi, gorgeous rooms, monkey wallpaper and love of bulldogs but Colin Hanks, son of Tom, loves the hotel for its rooftop as that's where he got married on Saturday. People Mag reports:
Engaged since last June, the pair said "I do" at sunset on the roof of the London Hotel in West Hollywood, a source tells PEOPLE. Alyssa Milano, Reese Witherspoon and her steady companion Jim Toth and were among the 150 guests.

Two New Hotels to Open in Los Angeles in April 2008

Hotel Palomar Westwood
While NYC has its own 2008 NYC Hotel Openings Watch, Los Angeles is getting its fair share of new hotels this year.
For starters we finally have an opening date prediction for the long-awaited Kimpton Hotel in Westwood. The Hotel Palomar will open in April 2008...after much hype might we add. From the press release:
Hotel Palomar pays homage to art, architecture, fashion, dance and literature. Seeking to make each guest's stay a masterpiece, Hotel Palomar focuses on sensual décor, thoughtful amenities and exemplary service. Los Angeles' sparkling film and art landscape will play a leading role in Hotel Palomar Los Angeles' "Art in Motion" focus.
We wonder if the Hotel Palomar here will beat out the neighboring W Hotel in Westwood, just as it did down in Dallas? Although it's too early to tell which hotel will win out, we did hear that Kimpton hired Barbara Piagari, the director of sales and marketing from the Viceroy Santa Monica and the Viceroy Palm Springs, to be the Palomar's director of sales. Interesting....
And although the London West Hollywood Hotel (the sister property to the London NYC) was once set for a January opening, it will open in April instead. That's when West Coasters will have their chance to sample Gordon Ramsay's fare for themselves, rather than hearing New Yorkers talk about it. Some good news, the hotel is offering introductory rates beginning April 1 for $299 a night on its website. But we hate to think what the regular rates might be--$400+?
