Last summer we saw the hybrid Marriott hotel rising in downtown Los Angeles from the 10 Freeway. This month, we've got a closer look at the hotel which sits across from The Staples Center and the LA Live entertainment district and which will host 174 Courtyard by Marriott rooms and 218 Residence Inn suites.

As you can see, the wacky wavy-looking exterior is completely done and the signage is up while the websites are live with photos of the rooms. Of note, both hotels are sporting the newest room designs for the brands, which not only look pretty but are supposed to be super functional, i.e. the ottoman with a table top over it and the modular desk furniture.

The hotels are supposedly opening this month but we weren't able to make reservations on the website just yet. We'll let you know when those open up for real and how much they're going for.

JW Marriott at LA Live Had a Killer View of The Emmys Red Carpet

The best action from Sunday's 62nd Emmy Awards took place inside the Staples Center (regardless of what you thought of the rest of the show, the "Glee"-inspired intro was amazeballs) but on the red carpet is where paparazzi and fans get the chance to glimpse their favorite celebrities in all their done-up glory.

Yet, this guest at the JW Marriott at LA Live scored an incredible view from the 19th floor looking down directly over the red carpet. We can't tell if this is a room view or a corridor view but either way, we'll have to keep the JW in mind when there's another big Hollywood event downtown at Staples.

Then again, if we camp out in the hotel enclosed behind glass windows, how will Jon Hamm ever hear us shouting our undying love for him? Maybe it is better to fight the crowds down below. Room rates for the hotel this week are at $239 but you can expect those to increase when big events are happening nearby.
