The Thai beachtown of Krabi is located two hours east of Phuket, offering visitors a handful of national parks and barrier islands to explore in the Andaman Sea. The 192-room Centara Grand Krabi is the area's most luxurious property, and it's also the most secluded, tucked in at the base of a national park and surrounded by cliffs on both sides.
The resort is a combination of low-rise buildings and individual villas built up into the cliffs, and the real treat comes from the balconies of the rooms that sit up the highest: A breathtaking killer view that looks out over the resort to the ocean and rocky coastline. Looking the other direction at night, the sky lights up and the palm trees silhouette against the clouds.
We are suckers for a room with a killer view. We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.
Sticking with the Ko Lanta theme...
This place offers gorgeous little bungalows right on the beach in Ko Lanta for around $100 a night. Sounds a lot like Jack's Thai digs on Lost last night, but we doubt Bai Ling will crawl on top of you at night if you stay here. On the bright side, you probably won't get beat up by the locals for getting a sacred mark. Either way you will be afforded an amazing sunset view in these beachfront bungalows.
You know the scene. You open the door to your brand new hotel room, run over to the window, open the blinds and bam, you are hit with the anti-view. Maybe you are looking down a dirty alley, witnessing a drug deal, staring at an air shaft in the face, or seeing a brick wall. Whatever you are viewing it is not extremely pleasurable. Help out your fellow hotel mavens by uploading your anti-views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number with the not-so-easy-on-the-eyes view.
Ko Lanta is an island in the Andaman Sea, off Krabi. A laid back, beach filled island with amazing sunsets, friendly folks, and many Swedes & Norwegians. No doubt Long Beach Resort on Phra Ae Beach offers some of the greatest sunset views on earth, but be prepared, the views inside the Bali-style bathrooms can look like this. Of course, beachfront huts are only THB 1300, and offer gorgeous sunset views from the beach. Give a little get a little, right?
