Hotel Monaco Seattle is Hosting 'Twilight' Look-a-Like Contest

We live in the Pacific Northwest, so we can say in complete confidence that Edward and Bella mania is at full-tilt levels of bat sh*t crazy. You can buy a replica of the heart-shaped crystal charm Edward gives to Bella, dine on mushroom ravioli at Bella Italia and even visit the Forks Community Hospital where Dr. Cullen works.

We’ve even heard that some hotels in Port Angeles, Forks and La Push on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula (the center of "Twilight" activity) are whoring out rundown motel rooms at $150 and up – because they can take the tourism bucks and run.

We love these coastal towns for a daytrip or an afternoon of waves, but they’re kinda depressing. Then again, that's absolutely perfect for a vampire series.

Kimpton's Next Hotel in NYC Will Be Quite an Eventi

Where: 835 6th Ave [map], New York, NY, United States, 10001
November 2, 2009 at 11:59 AM | by MsRebecca | 1 Comment

Now that Ink48 is up and running, it’s time for the seemingly unstoppable folks at Kimpton to start focusing on their next New York property: Hotel Eventi in Chelsea. As with some of its other properties (such as Miami’s Epic), the hotel will share space with apartments, in this case rentals. The Eventi will also share its entire-city-block with retail stores and an outdoor plaza with public seating.

Even better, the developers plan to construct a 20-foot wide screen to be used in the plaza for public and private events. The hotel’s restaurant will also have a long dining terrace overlooking the plaza.

Exterior construction has been progressing above Sixth Avenue in recent months, so it must be almost time to send in the interiors designer. Colum McCartan will bring Eventi’s 287 guest rooms to life, while Philip Koether Architects and Syd Mead will work on the multi-level bar and restaurant, which will be operated by China Grill Management, and the residential section of the building. There are no room renderings to peek at just yet but for an idea of McCartan’s work, take a look at his interiors at Le Parker Meridien New York, Hotel Adagio and Hotel Vitale in San Francisco, and Hotel Sax in Chicago.

More Hotel Halloween Doggies! What more do you want on this Friday afternoon before Halloween? These awesome photos come to us from the Hotel Monaco Alexandria, which held its Howl-o-ween Costume Contest on Thursday. And just to show anyone worried about puppy labor laws that canine concierges do have a chance to clock off and get loose, here is the hotel’s Director of Pet Relations, bichon frise Charlie getting into the Halloween spirit. He’s dressed as chef Derek Simcik from the hotel’s restaurant Jackson 20—right down to the tattoos.

Then there was Scooby, decked out in Oktoberfest lederhosen, who took home the Top Dog award of the evening. (Kudos for hitting two October festive occasions in one, Scoobs!)

Another Day, Another Hotel Sets a Cougar Trap

Hmm. As if we didn’t make fun of it enough the first time around, the “cougar den” has struck again. First Hotel Diva in San Francisco set a cougar trap — a “Cougar Contest” asking potential guests to explain why they belong in the hotel’s cougar den. Now Aspen’s Sky Hotel has released a “Cougar Den Women’s Getaway Package.”

Of course, Sky Hotel is an animal-print-loving Kimpton property, so we suppose we shouldn’t be surprised. The package includes a minimum of two rooms plus a “Girl’s Night Out” welcome basket (we shudder to think of its contents) plus a reserved Cougar Den table in loungey 39 Degrees, including two appetizers and one bottle for bottle service.

The offer is available Nov. 25 through April 11, with rates starting from $329 a night.

Look, we can’t help it. We’re suckers for a pet concierge. And this one takes the cake. At just 4 months old, Labrador Retriever Kora is the youngest Director of Pet Relations so far for Kimpton. She started her job at Hotel Palomar Dallas last night, at the property’s Howl-O-Ween Spooktacular party benefiting no-kill animal shelter Operation Kindness.

The Phillies Win is Good News For Philly Hotels

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 117 S 17th St [map], Philadelphia, PA, United States, 19103-5114
October 22, 2009 at 10:44 AM | by MsRebecca | 1 Comment

*UPDATE* As of today, the Palomar is offering another introductory rate, and like last week’s, it starts at a very reasonable $119 per night, including continental breakfast. The special rate is for stays Thursday–Sunday until Feb. 28, 2010—but must be booked by October 30. The rate code to use online or on the phone is DINE1. (But it’s not available for those Phillies World Series dates—we checked.)

So the Phillies clinched their World Series spot, and now everyone awaits the Yankees to follow suit tonight. But it’s not just sports fans craving the drama of the big east-coast rivalry. The city of Philadelphia would love a Phillies-Yanks matchup, and all the money it could bring, partly through hotel-room taxes.

Which is great news for the new Hotel Palomar Philadelphia. During a quick trip to Philly yesterday, we popped into the city’s first Kimpton to have a peek at the lobby (small but, indeed, cozy as we predicted from the photos we saw last week.) There was plenty of activity and a front-desk clerk told us that the hotel had “hit the ground running” since its opening last Thursday. Rooms were fully booked for the first six nights, but you can snag one tomorrow night from $259 or this Sunday night from $159.

InTouch Members Can Now Raid Kimpton Minibars Guilt-Free

October 15, 2009 at 10:28 AM | by KatieK | 0 Comments

Hotel Helix's mini-bar

Sometimes, don’t you sort of wish you could just raid the mini-bar without the guilt of $8 Snickers haunting your dreams? Well, we’re not afraid to admit that’s a tiny hotel fantasy of ours. For all you Kimpton loyalty members, it turns out our wish is your command.

That’s right, raiding the mini-bar guilt-free is one of three new perks for members of the free-to-join Kimpton InTouch loyalty program. Guests get a credit for two mini-bar items up to $10 (or $15 in NYC) every time you stay at a Kimpton. Maybe not so good for the diet, but a nice extra at 2 a.m. nonetheless.

Then there’s the “My Offers” page, exclusive to InTouch members, which offers five special discounts and promos that change regularly, from meals and in-room spa treatments to hotel packages and amenities.

Finally, the new “Passport Rewards” offer gives guests the chance to earn three free nights after 15 stays, and four free nights after 20 stays (that’s in addition to the current two free nights after 10 stays giveaway).

You can find out more about Kimpton's InTouch program online.

Philly’s Hotel Palomar Opens This Thursday

While we wait patiently for a slew of hot new hotels to open in New York City, there is movement over in Philly, with the opening of the city’s first Kimpton property, the Hotel Palomar, this Thursday.

And we’re not the only ones excited about the opening. Just ask Ed Grose of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association. He told the Philadelphia Inquirer yesterday:

“Having a property like Palomar by Kimpton come to Philadelphia confirms that we have made it as a city.”

Get Physical at Hotel Solamar's Poolside Pilates Classes

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 435 6th Ave. [map], San Diego, CA, United States, 92101
October 13, 2009 at 8:43 AM | by Jennifer Kester | 0 Comments

We'd rather do Pilates or another class-based workout over huffing it on a treadmill. So it's a given that at Hotel Solamar, we'll forgo the stuffy fitness center to work our core in the Poolside Pilates program. The incentive to exercise is that the alfresco class takes place on the chic fourth-floor rooftop terrace, which offers a view of the city's skyline.

The classes, which are free for hotel guests and $10 for non-guests (cheaper than most drop-in Pilates classes), take place Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. No need to BYOM, since mats are provided. Certified instructors from neighboring studio Hot Body Pilates will make you feel the burn and get your morning going with music that ranges from tranquil tunes to bumping beats.

Kimpton To Have A Foursome In Chicago With The Hotel Palomar

October 9, 2009 at 8:48 AM | by JetSetCD | 1 Comment

On Monday, we went inside of Kimpton Hotels' newest property, the Ink48 Hotel in Manhattan. It had animal-print robes, free wireless internet, and pretty spacious rooms by New York standards; we liked it. This opening will hardly be the last in a while for Kimpton however, as in May 2010, they plan to open the Hotel Palomar over in Chicago, bringing another of their brands to the Windy City.

As it is, Chicago already has three other Kimpton Hotels: The Hotel Monaco, The Hotel Burnham, and The Hotel Allegro, so do they really need another?

The answer, after the jump.

Hotel Monaco Portland Puts A New Lab In The Lobby

There are a lot of things we like about Kimpton Hotels, such as the "Forgot It? We Got It?" toiletry-supply service. We also love that the chain is so pet-friendly that The Muse Hotel in New York once hosted a sloth. We'll settle for taking our dog, but even when we can't, Kimpton covers that too. Just like when you forget your toothpaste.

Eight Kimpton properties have "Directors of Pet Relations" on the premises—dogs who essentially hang out in the lobby looking cute and rubbing up against guests in search of treats. The lineup includes a Bulldog, Bichon Frise, and pocket-pup Pomeranian. You can see their adorable mugs here.

This month, a new member joins the pack: yellow Labrador retriever Timmy will join the staff of the Hotel Monaco Portland with a red-carpet debut on Thursday, October 22. Local celebrities on two and four legs will be on hand to welcome Timmy to the hotel, with funds from the party going to Guide Dogs for the Blind.
