Introducing Ollie, Fairmont's Toiletry Mascot for Kids

Summer's here and school's out which means your summer travel plans may involve schlepping the little ones along with you. Same goes for new parents who aren't quite ready to compromise their jetsetting lifestyles. While it definitely requires more planning and more organization, a dream vacation can still be had. All this week, we'll be looking at a few hotels that are making it not just fun but easier for families to have a summer trip to remember.
Fairmont Hotels have long been a family favorite, thanks to the plentiful Kids Clubs activities at their hotels but this summer special attention is being paid to attention to the kiddies up in the guestrooms.
Fairmont has unveiled a new ambassador, Ollie, for their youngest hotel guests at their North American properties. Ollie's main job is to provide babies and tots with complimentary amenity kits that include an Ollie the Otter stuffed animal, no-tears hair wash, cleansing soap, toothbrush & paste, bubble bath and gentle lotion. If you're staying at a Fairmont this summer, then no need to squeeze all your baby products into travel-sized bottles and when you're already trying to pack up the gear, toys, books and blankets, it's a small relief to not worry about this.
Other hotels that we've come across with excellent toiletry kits for kids include the Trump Soho which has an exclusive Lather toiletries kit and the Canyon Ranch Miami which included mini-bottles of Johnson & Johnson baby toiletries.
But there's even more for kids up in the guestrooms at Fairmonts.

A Kids Club to Remember: The Rose Buds Program at Rosewood Hotels and Resorts

Summer's here and school's out which means your summer travel plans may involve schlepping the little ones along with you. Same goes for new parents who aren't quite ready to compromise their jetsetting lifestyles. While it definitely requires more planning and more organization, a dream vacation can still be had. All this week, we'll be looking at a few hotels that are making it not just fun but easier for families to have a summer trip to remember.
Kids clubs are an important part of a hotel stay for families--sometimes even more important than the hotel room--as they offer parents a chance to engage in some real deal R&R while the kids burn off their crazy energy.
But the specific activities offered at a hotel's kids club are important too. Parents don't want their kids sent down to some windowless rec room in the hotel basement for a few hours each day or similarly, just lazing around by the beach or pool all day getting fried by the hot sun. So if you want your kids to have an experience worth remembering, consider booking a stay with a Rosewood Hotels and Resorts.

Kids Can Now Work the Red Carpet at The Beverly Hills Hotel
Speaking of hotel kids packs to try this summer, we popped into the Beverly Hills Hotel the other week and discovered this mini-red carpet set-up just before the entrance to the hotel.
We snapped a picture of it but wrote it off as just another Beverly Hills-type event happening at the hotel, perhaps involving child actors. As it turns out, this is actually something for hotel guests and their little ones...because it's never too soon to start your kids on the red carpet?
The Little Legends package, available now at the hotel, includes a red carpet arrival for kids with sunglasses and a boa for girls and top hats for boys, an "autograph seeker" on hand to ask for their signatures, a paparazzi-style photo taken in front of a velvet rope and paparazzi wall and then presented in a keepsake frame, a VVIP card that offers them unlimited soda throughout the hotel, a personalized "Walk of Fame" chocolate star, an "I'm a Little Legend" t-shirt and the choice of an old-fashioned ice cream sundae or milkshake in the Fountain Coffee Shop.

The Four Seasons Chicago Gives Kids Free Fondue, Is An Ageist
The Four Seasons Chicago seriously has a junk food addiction. First it offers an on-call ice cream man to scoop sundaes for National Ice Cream Month. Then it creates its own gourmet hot dogs for National Hot Dog Month. Now it's serving fondue to kiddies (and no, it isn't National Fondue Month).
All children who check into the hotel will get the above tasty-looking new fondue welcome amenity. Bring your kids to the Chicago hotel and maybe they'll be nice enough to share with you.

Yay for Shrek 'Experiences' But What About a Shrek Suite?

For parents with children obsessed with Shrek (or for people who love Shrek themselves), Gaylord Hotels have partnered up with DreamWorks Animation to offer Shrek experiences for their guests.
These range from character breakfasts to Christmastime events, poolside activities, food and beverage offerings and what we predict will be most requested--private birthday parties. The experiences will also be done with characters from other DreamWorks franchises, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar and will happen at all four Gaylord hotels in Florida, Tennessee, Maryland and Texas.
Sadly, these experiences don't extend to the rooms. But the WSJ reports that themed rooms could be a possibility in the future, depending on customer demand. For what it's worth, we think there should be an entire Shrek Suite that resembles his and Fiona's house in the swamp. And don't forget Donkey!
The experiences go on sale in July for November stays but prices have not been released. But that's not going to matter is it when your kid is begging for a Shrek birthday party, is it?

The Montage Beverly Hills Will Spoil Your Kids While You're At The Spa
If you're in desperate need of a destressing holiday spa treatment or if you're Camille Grammer and one of your four nannies for your two kids has gone AWOL, you won't have to worry about trying to find a babysitter at the Montage Beverly Hills.
The hotel will take care of kiddies ages 5 to 12 with its new Paintbox program, which offers daily themed activities that will keep them occupied while you go off doing more adult things at the hotel. Except we're kinda curious if we can partake in Paintbox, just check out some of the offerings:

This Hotel Will Put Your Kid to Bed For You

Does the hotel's sleep concierge know she's reading about an insomniac?
Here's a piece of hotel news that made us go "awww": instead of all those new rooftop bars and grown-up but kid-like amenities hotels are stocking up on lately, New York's Benjamin Hotel is actually doing something for the kids. And the parents who want to get them the hell to sleep.
It's a sleep program for little people called the Winks' Kidzzz Club--and, yes, the Benjamin's sleep concierge is involved. Apparently she can provide sleep tips for kids--although we're wondering if she should be letting this little girl read a book called "Wide Awake Jake". Isn't that just asking for juvenile insomnia?

New Mums (and Sam Cameron), There's Room at the Inn at The Cornwall
You may thank Sam Cam for getting your mitts on a swanky bed like this
While Britain is still getting over the fact that the Prime Minister’s wife, Samantha Cameron, had a baby yesterday (politicians having sexytime? Eww), and we personally are dealing with the fact that she’s named it after the Cornish village we grew up in (St Endellion - cos she was on holiday there when she sprogged), expect the hotel contingency of Cornwall to rush out publicity-seeking tie-in deals immediately.
And sure enough, The Cornwall Hotel & Spa in Tregorrick, near St Austell, has been first to hop on the bandwagon.
First up, it’s offering a free overnight stay and dinner to any mother who gave birth yesterday and, in some kind of maternal-political delirium, named their child either David or Samantha. Ohhhkay…

The Athenaeum is Bringing Mary Poppins Back to London, For Free
A free nanny makes a better companion than a bunch of balloons
Hands up who thought Mary Poppins didn’t exist? Well, you’d be right on that one, she doesn’t, but The Athenaeum Hotel in London is getting together the next best thing – it’s hired three nannies which it reckons are the best in Britain, and offering their services complimentary to guests until September 30.
The nannies were chosen as part of a nationwide contest held in conjunction with Norland Nannies, who look after the sprogs of the British aristocracy and the three women chosen had to go up in front of an interview panel consisting of two children, a half-famous actress, Lynda Bellingham, and the hotel’s Kids Concierge (yes, it has one).

Dora and SpongeBob Vacay in Mexico's CasaMagna Marriott
While the thought of sprawling out under an umbrella and sipping a margarita is all you need to entice you to head to Mexico on vacation, it’s not exactly the type of stuff that’ll get the kids excited. But if you promise them that they can hang with Dora and SpongeBob when they are there, they’ll start packing their bags. It also wouldn’t hurt to say it’s the closest they’ll get to Bikini Bottom.
The beloved characters will be hanging at the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa as part of the hotel’s Nickelodeon Getaway package.
