There's a ton of new things happening with Kor Hotels this week.

First, an Abu Dhabi company bought a 50 percent stake in the company allowing Kor to expand their presence overseas opening hotels in Middle East, North Africa and Asia.

And back in the states, The Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills is getting a new look from its designer Kelly Wearstler to be completed sometime in early 2009. We initially heard this was happening from a dedicated HotelChatter reader but now we have an official statement from the designer herself after the jump.

Rooms at The Tides South Beach Are Finally Open

Site Where: 1220 Ocean Drive [map], Miami Beach, FL, United States, 33139

After what seems like forever of renovations, The Tides South Beach has finally opened up some of its new rooms.

The Kor Hotels star designer, Kelly Wearstler, has sprinkled some of her star design dust on the place which transformed rooms into 45 suites filled with chic beach decor. See for yourself what the place now looks like.

However, with such luxe suite accommodations and a Kelly Wearstler interior design, rates have jumped. We checked for a room on Saturday night and found a signature ocean front king studio suite for $795. The standard studios suites will cost almost as much, around $595 during the week and $695 on the weekend.

Um.....

Anyways, the La Marea restaurant is open and when we did a drive-by on Ocean Avenue yesterday, the front terrace looked very cool. If you can't afford a room, at least you can eat there. The rest of the rooms and hotel renovations including the Coral Bar and the pool should be completed by January.
