Where to Enjoy a Killer Hawaiian Sunset and a Tropical Drink in Kauai

March 6, 2007 at 2:39 PM | by annie0007 | 0 Comments

[Ed Note: Hotel Maven Annie0007 did some hotel hopping in Kaua'i, Hawaii, where she visited the Princeville Resort and the Hanalei Bay Resort. Here's her near-orgasmic take on this island paradise.]

Hawaii, it can be said, is one of the earth's most lush, beautiful, spectacular places. Gorgeous, untouched beaches, translucent waters, running streams, mountain views, epic-movie sunsets...not to mention free crabcakes.

More on the North Shore's hotels after the jump.

Hawaii's Amazing Hotel Infinity Pool View

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 5520 Ka Haku Road, PO Box 223069, [map], Princeville, Kauai, HI, United States, 96722

[Ed. Note: Hotel Maven Alex Salkever checks-in from Hawaiiarama again. This time he's going crazy for the Princeville Resort's infinity pool.]

Infinity pools are wonderful things. Sipping a drink, peering over the edge of the pool and blending into the trackless ocean or the topless sky are sublime sensations available at many fine resorts. But the Princeville Hotel and Resort, on the North Shore of Kauai, may have all the other infinity pools topped. Set at sea level, this pool looks out directly into the middle section of one of the best surfing waves in the world, the righthand freight train that slams though Hanalei Bay on big swells.

If its really big -- and it can get over 30 feet from trought to crest -- you might have trouble spotting the surfers but you'll take in an equally epic view of massive surf seen almost as a surfer would see it paddling out. Of course, you have to stay at this pricey resort to partake. Such are the costs of outrageous infinity pools.

Hyatt Kauai: Pools on Empty

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 1571 Poipu Road [map], Poipu, HI, United States, 96756
November 2, 2006 at 9:35 AM | by ASalkever | 0 Comments

[Ed. Note: HotelChatter correspondent Alex Salkever from Hawaiirama returns this week with the scoop on Kauai's best hotel pool. Enjoy.]

The pools at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa on Kauai are fricking amazing. They slosh across a whopping five acres and snake around this huge resort dropping 40-feet or so through a number of levels down to the beach.

They come in both fresh and saltwater varieties. Multiple waterslides including a 150-foot beauty keep the kiddies yammering for more. A classic river-style layout, they include a generous smattering of waterfalls, grottoes, secluded decks for sunning, and small swimming holes.

In fact, the Hyatt Pool is the second best pool in Hawaii behind the multi-level monster Wailea Canyon pool at the Grand Wailea on Maui. Alas, all good pools need a scrub. So, the Hyatt Kauai is resurfacing its pools, a month-long project that started the last week in October.

Here's what Expedia had on the subject.

Work will be scheduled so that for most of this period, one of the pools and the saltwater swimming lagoon will be open 24 hours a day; both pools will be closed November 9 - 13. The waterslide will be closed November 9 - 29.

Daddy and mommy, you try to tell the kids the pool is closed. I dare you. The kicker? Completion dates subject to change. Ouch. Caveat aqua.
