More From the Royal Wedding Ripoffs Department

While hotels around the world go package mad for the Royal Wedding, Londoners are also trying to cash in on the nuptials by advertising their spare rooms, sofa beds and houses on sites such as gumtree, Airbnb and rent my house.
Even estate agents are listing rentals for that week whilst home owners jet off abroad on their holidays.
But if you’re thinking these alternatives will be cheaper than a hotel, think again. Some of them are charging a hefty price with one double room in a flatshare listed for £2,400 per week! For a room with shared bathroom? Royal Rip Off!

Who is Booking a Royal Wedding Package, Who?

In the past two days, we've gotten 10 emails about 10 different hotel packages and events for the Royal Wedding, largely for hotels in the United States as London hotels have quickly sold out.
These packages include stuff like nights in the hotel's royal suite, specialty royal wedding cocktails, English breakfast (that might be the first time you'll ever see THAT as a package highlight), royal tea time, shopping trips (for royal jewel fakes), the use of chauffeurs and wake-up calls for the ceremony.
Hotels are also trying to spin their normal hotel services as luxury services that royals would use. "Have your clothes dry-cleaned like a royal would! Get pampered like a royal with nightly turn down service!", etc., etc.
Now, we know hotels are quick to create packages for any event that's going on in pop culture/sports/the world and this wedding is causing most everyone in Britain to explode out of their jumpers and britches but might they be overdoing it here? After all, are you sitting around with your girlfriends/spouses/book club members/fellow cat ladies saying, "We should book a royal wedding package!"? Is there really that much demand for royal wedding themed hotel packages?

The Drake Gets Royal Wedding Fever with Its Own Tea and Nuptials Screening
London hotels have been seeing wedding bells like crazy for the impending nuptials between Prince William and Kate Middleton, but it looks like royal wedding fever is coming stateside. The Drake in Chicago is joining the Kate and Wills craziness with its own fit-for-a-princess event London's Calling: The Royal Wedding Tea Party on April 29.
The hotel's Palm Court will be decorated as if there were an actual British wedding taking place there, with fake wedding cakes on display, an aisle runner, flowers and more. While you won't be able to watch the vows live there, you won't miss a second of the royal I-dos, since it'll be shown on one large-screen and five 50-inch plasma TVs. A bride and hat models will also make the rounds throughout the room during the service.

Will the Royal Couple Make Suite Love at The Goring?
It was rumored that Kate Middleton would be spending her last night as a free lady at The Goring and now it seems she may even spend her first night hitched there. There are rumors floating out thereindeed a little more than a rumorthat this year's most-toasted couple may hole up in the five-star hotel before flitting off on the real honeymoon.
And why wouldn’t they? After all the hotel is on the brink of debuting a special Royal Suite in April, just in time for the big nuptial event. The new suite, designed by hot hotel designer of the moment Russell Sage, will be spread over the whole top floor of the hotel; the idea being it's like someone’s home rather than a hotel room. Further details include that the suite will have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a study, a baby grand piano and Juliet-style balconies.

Kate Middleton and Camilla are The Ladies Who Lunch at The Berkeley Hotel
Oooh juicy hotel gossip in Londontown! No, literally, apparently a group of very famous famous were recently spotting gossiping over lunch at the Koffman's Restaurant at Knightsbridge's 5-star Berkeley Hotel. The bold-faced names enjoying a little public tete-a-tete earlier this week were none other than royal bride-to-be Kate Middleton and her future stepmother-in-law, Camilla Parker-Bowles. Each brought back-up, too, as they were joined by Kate's sister Pippa and Camilla's daughter Laura Lopes, and, according to trusty old British papers that follow the royals obsessively, Camilla was overheard offering advice to Kate.

Hell Bay Could Be Heaven For A Back To Basics Royal Honeymoon
Are Kate and Wills really going to spend their honeymoon on the Scilly Isles? Well, Katie Nicholl said so in the Mail on Sunday this weekend and she certainly knows her royal biz.
Over in HotelChatter Towers, we hope not. Firstly because, according to Nicholl, William last went there with his mother, and for Midders’ sake, we really want the Diana links to end. Secondly, because it’s their honeymoon, and we really don’t think the people of Britain will begrudge them a flight to somewhere exotic. Third, because the Scillies are still, like Cornwall (the bit of the mainland that they lie off), predominantly land of the pidiots (posh idiots) when it comes to visitors (this member of HC is from Cornwall originally so is totally allowed to say that). It’s not exactly out of their comfort zone - if they were going to stick to Britain, we'd rather they try somewhere up north.
Having said that, if Willkat were completely set on the Scillies and were to ask us where to stay, we’d advise them to head over to Bryher. It’s the smallest of the five inhabited islands – its population is just 83 – so any paps/tabloid reporters would stick out immediately. And, it has a magnificent honeymoon pad in the shape of the Hell Bay hotel.

Where to Stay in London for The Royal Wedding (But Hurry, Book Now)
UPDATE: The Athaneuam London is disputing the report that their prices are double the usual rate. Instead, the hotel told us they are quoting folks at £500 a night for the Royal Wedding weekend. However, their website is still not showing any availability for that weekend.
London hotels were quick off the mark with celebration deals following the announcement of the Royal Engagement last month. And with the wedding date fixed for 29th April 2011 they have been just as quick at putting prices up.
We did some online digging to find out the best places to stay if you’re heading to London for the Royal Wedding. The Daily Express reported that hotels in the capital have been boosting their prices by up to 200% after being inundated with requests.
The Athenaeum Hotel has been named as the worst offender selling rooms at more than double the usually price. When we checked the website it was fully booked, which shows people are obviously willing to pay the prices.
