Jumeirah Essex House Celebrates The U.S. Open With The Honey Deuce

We've kicked off our Summer Cocktails series where we profile fun new summer drinks that hotels are making. Got one we should know about? Send us the recipe with a photo of the drink. Otherwise, enjoy and @reply us when you're wasted!

With the U.S. Open coming up, the fine peeps at Jumeirah Essex House on Central Park have got a consolation prize for all of us who won't make it courtside: we can enjoy the official U.S. Open Cocktail instead (who knew a sporting event had an official cocktail? We hope the players get one after every match).

Anyway, this official cocktail is the Honey Deuce, featuring Grey Goose vodka and Chambord, and of course some melon balls which definitely get us thinking about tennis, at least if we use our imagination. Essex House will be offering this cocktail in its South Gate restaurant from today through to the end of the U.S. Open on September 13.

Jumeirah Emirates Tower :: A Good Spot to Meet a Sheik for a Drink

February 12, 2009 at 9:59 AM | by shiralevine | 0 Comments

In Dubai money still seems to trump religion and culture. The teeny tiny sliver of a country is a mere desert road trip from Saudi Arabia and Oman, and just an abra jaunt from Iran and Iraq. But Dubai is more green zone than red zone. Dubai's like Macau without the gambling. Disneyworld and Kings Dominion by the Arabian Sea. And again, the Las Vegas of the Middle East. It's also a great place to find yourself slinging back shots with a Sheik -- indoors that is.

Ride the Jumeirah Wave for a Little 'Las Vegas Crack'

February 10, 2009 at 10:32 AM | by shiralevine | 0 Comments

Veterans of Dubai's extreme ritz also call the emirate "Las Vegas on crack." Just like you would imagine, the land of superlatives is big and over the top. Think: If Steve Wynn and Vegas, and Trump and Atlantic City got together and made a gigantic, flashy and utterly spoiled baby, destined to grow up with some serious developmental problems.

A long weekend is plenty of time to admire the sparkly sandcastle and glass skyline, luxurious amenities and stellar customer service, if you don't mind an entire day of flying to make your luxe pilgrimmage.

The ocean wave-shaped Jumeirah Beach Hotel is super friendly in that Las Vegas mega mall type way where somehow it seems OK that you have your kids there with you, even thought they really don't belong in a place like Dubai. And JBH has the most amazing views of the incorrectly awarded 7-star Burj Al Arab. (There is no such thing as seven stars in hotel rating.)

Jumeirah Invites You to Taste the Gold Life

February 3, 2009 at 11:59 AM | by Jenna | 0 Comments

The Jumeirah Essex House

Jumeirah Hotels — the folks behind the ultra-luxe Essex House and over-the-top properties like the Burj Al Arab — have launched a global promo called "The Gold Life," which, naturally, leaves visions of Kanye jamming to "The Good Life" in our heads.

Speaking of Kanye, we imagine that were he a member of Jumeirah's loyalty program, Sirius, he'd be at the Gold level, the highest tier of membership. Livin' it up VIP-style, if you will.

So throw your hands up in a sky for this one (okay, that was lame; give us a break): If you stay in any Jumeirah Hotel or Resort worldwide before April 20th for two nights, you get to experience the Gold Life yourself — that is, you get a little taste of all the perks of Sirius Gold status without having to work your way up. Specifically, that will score you an upgrade to the next room category, access to the Club Executive Lounge and facilities, daily complimentary breakfast, late checkout until 2:00 pm, complimentary airport transfers, daily newspaper, free internet access and a 10% food discount at any of the hotel's restaurants. Holla.

If you sign up to be a Sirius member, tasting The Gold Life will also earn you 2,000 points to be redeemed for a free stay next time. Check out Jumeirah's website for deets and destinations.

Minibar Happy Hour Satisfies Your Drunk Munchies

Picture this: you're in your hotel room, sort of drunk from happy hour cocktails in the lobby bar. You're dying for a snack. The hotel minibar is right there.

But you stop your hot little hands from reaching for that little fridge because its contents are SO expensive, not to mention the crap in there is SO unhealthy.

Yeah, we've all been there.

Luckily, at least one hotel as finally recognized the frequency of such devastating standard minibar situations and has come up with the perfect solution to satisfy our after-dinner (or after-cocktail) munchies: offering semi-healthy items in the minibar -- and a Minibar Happy Hour.
