Choco-holics, Stay Away From The Jumeirah Essex House This Christmas

This is the kind of Christmas tree that you do not want to have around the house—because if you did, you'd just end up eating it.
Luckily, this 10-foot-tall beauty, made entirely of chocolate (white, dark, milk, fondant, you name it, it's on there), is on view inside the Jumeirah Essex House, which luckily isn't a place we frequent very often.
The chocolate theme is continued into the rest of the lobby with a weekend-only Chocolate Bar. Boy, this hotel is pressing allll the right buttons. Included in the mouth-watering buffet are a chocolate fountain, assorted truffles and house-made hot chocolate. Tickets go for $35 a head, but if you bump it up to $49, they'll throw in a glass of champagne.

What are Special Opening Rates Like in The Maldives?
Where: Maldives

Often when we look for special introductory hotel opening rates, we're hoping for something in the low $200s, preferably in the $100s, because we know that new hotels usually have some kinks to work out and that not everything is up and running. We also just like a really good deal.
Of course, things are done differently in The Maldives.
Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts have just opened the Jumeirah Dhevanafushi Resort in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll. The resort has 38 "Revive" and "Sanctuary" villas with views of the island or the ocean, direct beach or lagoon access, private swimming pools and personalized 24-hour butler service. There's also free WiFi and each villa has its own Apple Media Center.
Need to be even more isolated from civilization than just flying to the Maldives and checking into a villa? Sequester yourself in one of the Ocean Pearls, the resort's overwater bungalows located 800 metres away from the main island resort.
Right now, Jumeirah is offering an introductory rate for two people for three nights starting at $4,658.. Yes, that's a little bit out of our usual price range but this is the Maldives, the best of the best exotic island getaways. And that price also includes the following:

Have A Holiday Cocktail At Jumeirah Essex House For $10 This Friday

Here's a holiday riddle for you: When do we love a holiday cocktail more than ever before? When it's a mere ten bucks! OK, so that wasn't really a riddle but it is almost unheard of for a fancy hotel to offer specialty cocktails for less than $15. Which is why we're psyched about the special happy hour taking place this Friday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at South Gate, the restaurant at Jumeirah Essex House in New York.
The cocktail menu at South Gate already includes classics such as The Cougar and The Stork Club ($16 each) but at this Friday's Happy Hour you can get a Spiced Cranberry Agave cocktail for just $10. Suh-weet!

Jumeirah Essex House Celebrates The U.S. Open With The Honey Deuce

We've kicked off our Summer Cocktails series where we profile fun new summer drinks that hotels are making. Got one we should know about? Send us the recipe with a photo of the drink. Otherwise, enjoy and @reply us when you're wasted!
With the U.S. Open coming up, the fine peeps at Jumeirah Essex House on Central Park have got a consolation prize for all of us who won't make it courtside: we can enjoy the official U.S. Open Cocktail instead (who knew a sporting event had an official cocktail? We hope the players get one after every match).
Anyway, this official cocktail is the Honey Deuce, featuring Grey Goose vodka and Chambord, and of course some melon balls which definitely get us thinking about tennis, at least if we use our imagination. Essex House will be offering this cocktail in its South Gate restaurant from today through to the end of the U.S. Open on September 13.

Jumeirah Emirates Tower :: A Good Spot to Meet a Sheik for a Drink

In Dubai money still seems to trump religion and culture. The teeny tiny sliver of a country is a mere desert road trip from Saudi Arabia and Oman, and just an abra jaunt from Iran and Iraq. But Dubai is more green zone than red zone. Dubai's like Macau without the gambling. Disneyworld and Kings Dominion by the Arabian Sea. And again, the Las Vegas of the Middle East. It's also a great place to find yourself slinging back shots with a Sheik -- indoors that is.

Ride the Jumeirah Wave for a Little 'Las Vegas Crack'

Veterans of Dubai's extreme ritz also call the emirate "Las Vegas on crack." Just like you would imagine, the land of superlatives is big and over the top. Think: If Steve Wynn and Vegas, and Trump and Atlantic City got together and made a gigantic, flashy and utterly spoiled baby, destined to grow up with some serious developmental problems.
A long weekend is plenty of time to admire the sparkly sandcastle and glass skyline, luxurious amenities and stellar customer service, if you don't mind an entire day of flying to make your luxe pilgrimmage.
The ocean wave-shaped Jumeirah Beach Hotel is super friendly in that Las Vegas mega mall type way where somehow it seems OK that you have your kids there with you, even thought they really don't belong in a place like Dubai. And JBH has the most amazing views of the incorrectly awarded 7-star Burj Al Arab. (There is no such thing as seven stars in hotel rating.)

Jumeirah Hotels the folks behind the ultra-luxe Essex House and over-the-top properties like the Burj Al Arab have launched a global promo called "The Gold Life," which, naturally, leaves visions of Kanye jamming to "The Good Life" in our heads.

Minibar Happy Hour Satisfies Your Drunk Munchies
Picture this: you're in your hotel room, sort of drunk from happy hour cocktails in the lobby bar. You're dying for a snack. The hotel minibar is right there.
But you stop your hot little hands from reaching for that little fridge because its contents are SO expensive, not to mention the crap in there is SO unhealthy.
Yeah, we've all been there.
Luckily, at least one hotel as finally recognized the frequency of such devastating standard minibar situations and has come up with the perfect solution to satisfy our after-dinner (or after-cocktail) munchies: offering semi-healthy items in the minibar -- and a Minibar Happy Hour.
