Our Super Secret Hotel Maven network extends far and wide and thanks to another SSHM, we have a mini-guide to Russia's luxe hotels--perfect for ballers, high-rollers and Russian mobsters. It's a mini-guide because it's really only a few hotels in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Up next: Ararat Park Hyatt Moscow. Enjoy.

St. Petersburg is cute and all, but it's a bit of a sleepy town. I found myself feeling a bit lost and isolated after three days there. I was very much ready to move on to the next phase of my trip, the capital city of Moscow.

After the most institutional airport check-in of my entire life, I was whisked on the one hour flight to Moscow aboard Russia's national airline, Aeroflot. Note about Aeroflot: most comfortable coach seats I have yet to experience.

I arrived in Moscow, and rode the 2 hour ride in traffic to the center of the city, and was dropped off in front of my new home, the Ararat Park Hyatt Moscow.

Striking a (Con)corde with WiFi Hungry Customers in Europe

February 5, 2008 at 9:15 AM | 0 Comments

In a European first among four and five star hotels, Concorde Hotels has announced the kind of deal that could blow its competitors out of the water permanently - or at least until they follow suit.

This week Concorde launch the 100% WiFi, 100% free deal across 15 of their European hotels, ensuring free, secure internet access, wherever your travels might take you. The French company boasts seven hotels in Paris alone, as well as additional free WiFi hotels in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Prague, Rome and Berlin, to name but a few.

Now you can have 24-hour free internet access for the duration of your stay, an essential for business travelers or for those who wanting to upload their holiday pics to Facebook instantly.

Another feather in Concorde's cap is the host of top-shelf restaurants that the chain has become renowned for, with at least ten of the hotels' restaurants having acquired international recognition.

"Sharing a singular pursuit of perfection that is the mark of exceptional hospitality", Concorde seem to be devotees of the notion that the way to a customer's heart is through their stomach (with free WiFi thrown in for good measure!)

Best International Hotel WiFi: The Faena Hotel + Universe

Each year we release our Best and Worst Hotel WiFi Lists and in 2007 we decided to add an international component. Using our far-flung contributors and our own experiences, we kicked off a list of hotels with good and bad WiFi policies from Australia to the Argentina.

One hotel stood out the Faena Hotel + Universe in Buenos Aires which ultimately made our Best Geek Hotels in the World list thanks to their savvy tech offerings.

For those looking to surf the web at this hotel, you should be more than satisfied. The entire property has a strong internet connection, 802.11 present throughout, and a healthy bandwidth well into the megs. Topping that, you can work poolside even using VOIP while you sip an açaí smoothie. If only all international hotels would offer the same service.
