This package is for all of you political animals out there or for those of you who may have just a wee crush on President Obama. And trust us, that goes for males and females; we hear all the sighs of jealousy when it comes to photos of him and FLOTUS.
So, it's just at the right daydreamy Friday moment that we're thinking about Ritz-Carlton, Washington's full backstage pass, so to speak, to some of the Inauguration events happening in D.C.

Ah, finally, a bright spot for the hotel industry during these down-in-the-dumps times: the final numbers are in from inauguration weekend in D.C., and, as expected, D.C. hotels totally made bank.
According to a Washington Business Journal report, Hotels in the D.C. area brought in approximately $94.8 million during the four days surrounding Obama's inauguration, January 17th to January 20th. Guests reportedly paid an average of a whopping $600 per night to crash in D.C. hotels on the night of the 20th, and those who stayed outside the District forked over closer to $300 for their rooms.
Occupancy rates in the District, which was reportedly sold out in the days up to inauguration, hit 98 percent in the District on Jan. 19, while averaging around 91 percent in the outside suburban areas. Rates during the rest of the period ranged from 84 percent to 96 percent in the District, and from 67 percent to 87 percent in the outlying areas.
Good lord. Remind us to actively stay in touch with old college buddies in every major city in the U.S. just in case an event the size of this inauguration comes up we're gonna need couches to crash on if $600 per night is the average room rate.

We aren't quite sure how rocker Sheryl Crow ever went from dating Owen Wilson to Kid Rock then to Lance Armstrong. And apparently, Sheryl probably wonders what she was thinking dating the Detroit wild child as well. Page Six reports that the former lovers had an "awkward run-in" at Donovan House in DC yesterday during all the inauguration festivities.
Sheryl Crow is the hardest-working woman in Washington. She played three different private parties before getting ready for the MTV gala at the Hilton. But before she left for that, she had an awkward run-in with her ex, Kid Rock, in the lobby of Donovan House. The two dated for several years before he dumped her for Pamela Anderson in 2007. At the time, Crow was devastated - but she kept her cool yesterday. Crow "calmly reintroduced him to her parents and then walked away," our spy said.
Oh god, we totally forgot that she was dumped by Kid Rock too. In other inauguration hotel news, James Taylor reportedly fell and received 50 stitches. The word according to Page Six is that "It involved a wooden parrot in his hotel room." Anyone with details on the wooden parrot and the hotel, must email us.

The always-reliable Page Six has been all up in the D.C. Hotel Scene during all this inauguration hoopla to make sure that, even on the edge of history and on the day that arguably the most famous face in America is to be sworn into office (as we type right now!), we won't forget about important people like Lindsay Lohan and Sam Ronson and Beyonce.
Right now, if celebs aren't at Sundance, they're probably up in DC making the rounds on the party circuit and watching the 44th president's inauguratio. Here's a quickie roundup, with a little help from Page Six, of who's been where and what they're up to tonight.

To celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama and to, er, toast the retirement of George W. Bush, Hard Rock Las Vegas is declaring tomorrow (January 21st Obama's first day in office and Dubya's first day far away from the White House) The Greatest Day Ever.
Accordingly, they'll be offering majorly discounted booze to stimulate both the economy and your spirits: from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow night, Center Bar wants you to experience the changes in Domestic Policy with $1 Bud Lights and $1 Right Gin Cocktails.
Enjoy the adjustments to Foreign Policy with $2 Stella Artois. Also, the hotel will be offering 'Obamaritas' at the Pink Taco and 'Obamatinis' and Lame Duck Special cocktails at AGO.

Holy crap: It’s finally inauguration day! After endless speculation, the big day has arrived. As predicted, it’s freezing in D.C., but a bevy of celebs and, of course, “biggest-celebrity-in-the-world” Barack Obama has transformed our nation’s capitol into the hotspot of a lifetime.
But even through all the Obamarama hope-mongering, we know you’re at least secretly still interested in another A+-lister. That’s right, Oprah’s in town, and her star is not the kind to get overlooked — no matter the occasion.
As we reported way back in December, the Queen of Chat is staying five nights in the Royal Suite at the Four Seasons (at $15,000 a night). Among the suite’s perks are a personal shopping assistant, private exercise room, and “a sculptural bathtub [with a] crystal fixture elegantly draped overhead,” according to the Washington Post.
And today, Oprah will do her second live show in Washington. Yesterday’s show was at the glittering Kennedy Center, but today’s will be held at Capitol Hill’s newish Art and Soul Restaurant at the Liaison Capitol Hill hotel—which makes perfect sense, considering the James Beard award-winning chef, Art Smith, was formerly personal chef to Oprah. Rumored guests include Jon Bon Jovi and Forest Whitaker. Not that you have any chance of snagging a seat at the show or anything. But hey, that’s why it’s on TV.

It's time, people: the frenzy of parties, celebrations and drink specials surrounding Barack Obama's inauguration have kicked off, and D.C. though a bit congested at the moment has turned into patriotic party central over the weekend.
Naturally, hotels in the area are doing more than just playing host to the hundreds of thousands of psyched Americans overnight: they are, of course, hosting some of the most anticipated official and unofficial soirees too. According to the AP's uber-helpful comprehensive schedule of events going down for inaugurapalooza, here's what's happened and what's planned at which hotels and where.
· On Saturday, the People's Inaugural Gala Celebration went down all day long at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. Festivities kicked off with a breakfast and continued with a Women's Leadership Luncheon (Gloria Steinem was there!) Sunday, attendees took in a gospel concert and a jazz concert, and the gala's grand finale will be the black-tie People's Inaugural Ball on Tuesday evening.
· And yesterday at the Ritz-Carlton, the California State Society held the Presidential Inaugural Luncheon & Fashion Show.
· Tonight at the Gaylord is the Texas State Society's famed Black Tie and Boots Ball which, according to the online invitation, looks like it honors the Texas-born outgoing president a 'lil more than the incoming one. But: black tie and boots! And country music, too!

The key cards have the American flag and the key holder says “In celebration of the 2009 Presidential Inauguration”.
We just hope they work better than the "wooden stinkers" handed out at hotels during the Democratic National Convention.
The Carlton is currently undergoing a $60 million renovation from the prolific David Rockwell group which will be completed in mid-2009 and will feature a new "social destination" area in the lobby. The rooms have all been renovated to include iHome docking stations, leather-topped work desks, private bars, and complimentary in-room wireless Internet access.
Web-only rates start at $206 a night next week for a standard room with a full-sized bed. A room with a queen bed is available at $269 a night.
We’ve talked a lot about inaugurapalooza, but so far have largely ignored the best part about the quadrennial event. No, dweebs, not the witness of democracy — we’re talking about all those parties! After all, two million folks aren’t heading to D.C. just to stand outside in the freezing cold, craning their necks to see Obama’s face on a Jumbotron.
With 10 official balls and gobs of unofficial ones — literally, gobs — hotels in the area are keeping more than busy hosting all the revelry. To be honest, there are just way more than we have time to write about (and, hopefully, you have attention span to read about), so we’re going to be a bit choosy in our coverage.
That brings us to the Willard Intercontinental’s inauguration parade brunch, to be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Those crazy Brits are at it again—hosting hotel parties for expats again, that is.
Following the success of its election night party, The Stafford Hotel in London is having an Inauguration Day party at its American Bar. And much like the last go round, the bar will revamp its menu with hamburgers, hot dogs and apple pie, craft specialty cocktails (like the Renegade, made with Bourbon, sloe gin, lemon juice and cocktail cherries, and the 44 Fizz, made with champagne, Belle de Brillet and blue curacao), as well as showcase the event on its TVs (even remaining open until the event's over).
And considering that over 200 people attended the election night party, you might want to get there early to secure a seat. We're not the only ones happy to see G-Dub go, you know.
Less than a fortnight away from Jan. 20, inauguration frenzy is actually starting to die down a bit in Washington, D.C. After those initial surges in what can only be described as temporary insanity, we’re finally starting to sift a few facts from the rumors and speculation.
As we all know, D.C. hotels turn inauguration into a jockeying match to see who can create the most outrageous hotel package. And yes, we’re guilty of feeding the hype machine by blasting the absurdities of such perks as a free puppy (Omni Shoreham) and a post-inauguration trip to the Caribbean to recover (the Georgetown Ritz-Carlton). But as the Wall Street Journal pointed out this week: “The last—and previously the only—time the Ritz sold its package was in 1988, when financier Henry Kravitz bought it for the then-astonishing $15,000.”
