Usually when we're looking for cool hotels with unique décor and interesting design we head to New York, London or L.A. But Houston? Turns out, this is the next big spot. In June, the second Hotel ZaZa opened with 315 of the most uniquely decorated rooms we've ever seen. (And the most interesting foyer too--There's a woman crouching in a Lucite cage suspended from the ceiling.)
In addition to the interesting furnishings, guests can expect rooms with incredible views, 40-inch plasma TVs, small (but pretty) bathrooms, and perfect Wi-Fi connections. Plus the hotel's restaurant is casual enough for jeans by day, but goes formal enough for a shirt and tie by night. With wild mushroom-crusted halibut and lobster cannelloni, it's a menu worth dressing up for.
The new location is about a mile from downtown and within walking distance of some of Houston's most beautiful parks and famous museums.
So it seems as if the Hotel ZaZa is all about decadence--from the menu to the décor--but at $255 a night, you can still afford it. Although, for special occasions we recommend one of the $2,500 suites.)
Summer is here, which means baseball-obsessed people all over the U.S. are hopping in planes, trains, and automobiles to visit MLB fields around the country. To help these fanatic fans/hotel guests, we will be looking at ballparks around the country and give you a quick rundown of your closest, safest, and best hotel options. "America's Favorite Pastime" with some of America's finest second cities--what is not to love? If you got any hotel questions or suggestions or even better, firsthand baseball park hotel reviews, send them here and share them with other MLB fans--even if they are Yankee fans.
Next up in our MLB Travel series is Houston's Minute Maid Park. Ya gotta love the corporate sponsorship of ballparks these days. Still the juice company beats the park's former name--Enron Field. The Inn at the Ballpark is the closest hotel, literally across the street from the park. Surprisingly enough the place doesn't offer any "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" types of packages.
Much like Twelve Hotel in Atlanta, the Hotel ZaZa in Dallas is getting its own spin-off hotel. The Hotel ZaZa in Houston is set to open this February in the old Warwick Hotel.
Located in the city's museum district, the hotel will feature 12 floors with a total of 315 rooms, a spa, a "urban oasis" pool, plenty of business and meetings facilities, concept/themed suites, luxury suites and the restaurant, Monarch which will actually open two weeks before the hotel. Not too bad, considering the hotel was to open last spring.
Check out this bit of embarrassing hotel hype:
Owners of the hip hotel concept initially thought guests would be welcomed in spring 2006, but the extensive renovation process took longer than expected. To accommodate prior party commitments made by the hotel, several gala events will take place in the new space in January before the official grand opening.
Too much hotel hype can be a bad thing.
One more thing about ZaZa--their sexy tag line reads "Sexy. Sensual. Stylish. All this and Brains Too." They've even got pictures of sexy ladies doing "smart" things like posing with flowers and such. Let's just hope this hotel stays condom wrapper-free.
